Now that the time has come that Cameron Ling has retired & everyone said that he was the best tagger in the AFL, who does this award go to now as best tagger?

There's a few good taggers around there i'll put some in the Poll, I maybe a bit biased maybe.

Adelaide: Michael Doughty & Brent Reilly: Have been around for awhile, I think Brent Reilly would be the best tagger at Adelaide.

Brisbane: Can't really think of any help me out here!

Carlton: Aaron Joseph, Andrew Carrazzo & David Ellard: I've watched Andrew Carrazzo alot when he tags players & I must say he does a pretty good job of it, Ellard I can't really rate as a great tagger though he is still pretty young. Joseph is a bit of a pest when tags, but still don't rate him highly, So Carrazzo from the Blues as my nomination

Collingwood: Don't know. Thought they we're more of an attacking squad?

Essendon: Probably Mark McVeigh or Henry Slattery, Probably Slattery

Fremantle: Ryan Crowley, Anyone else there?

Geelong: Ling's gone.....

Gold Coast: No one really worth mentioning yet.

GWS: Don't know any.

Hawthorn: Chance Bateman, Jordan Lewis & Brad Sewell, I recall Lewis smash Judd that game, Bateman run with players & Sewell he can put an alright tag on. So Sewell i'll say.

Melbourne: McKenzie most likely, maybe Jones or Davey?

North Melbourne: Rawlings is gone also, I wonder who will be next in line.

Port Adelaide: Still Kane Cornes?

St Kilda: Clinton Jones by far & may be the #1 Tagger in the AFL?

Sydney: Kieran Jack, Ben McGlynn & Craig Bird, Who's the better out of the three? I can't split them.

West Coast: Adam Selwood by far.

Western Bulldogs: Liam Picken must be the dogs #1, Whenever they need someone fixed up he went on them.

Richmond: Daniel Jackson the Richmond run with man.

So who is the best Tagger in the AFL?

Selwood did the best job on Judd last year in that he held him to 17-18 touches while he was in a great patch of form...so he gets my vote.

Think the pure tagger is on the endangered list which is a good thing for the game.

I thought Tim Clarke was the Hawks' tagger?

I'm not sure Hocking did any tagging jobs last year. Won a lot of his own ball, from memory went pretty much straight at it.
We tried Howlett as the main tagger with mixed results, Monfries did some good jobs off half-forward, Welsh did one or two.

Yes because Slattery and Hocking look and play very similarly...

He's been great the last 2 years, but unfortunately he's been stuck doing the run with roles while we haven't had another suitable player for it. Howlett played it in patches last year, hopefully he steps up to it so Hocking can be released to play a more attacking role.

I mean the name Slattery just went with Hocking's face.....

I would go with Scooter if he was an option. Considering he only got beaten a handful of times last year and even then not by much. He is also good offensively.

However out of the options given, Jones for me.

Whilst J Lewis got massive props for his job on Judd, it was probably the only time he played that close to the oppositions best mid all year. The fact that he gathered 30 odd touches a lot of them in space, would suggest he wasn't really tagging...

Shiels did a number of run with roles for us last year, I would expect this role at the Hawks to be rotated between 4-5 players at the club in 2012.

I voted Liam Pickering because of his commentary work and the fact that he is doing a damn fine job managing Gablett Jnr.

Great tagger Pickering, age defying type of player. Who would believe he is in his 40's?

My subjective and slightly biased opinion would be Scott Selwood or Clint Jones.

Selwood is quick, an amazing tackler and good disposal by foot (probably the best of the brothers in this regard).

Clinton Jones is a contested beast, who can play his own game effectively whilst still doing a great defensive job. Priddis lite who doubles as a run with player.
