Hasn't been a great run for them lately but every punter has indirectly benefitted from TopSport's model.
They are/were literally the only corp in the country to take informed money in any sort of volume and unlike virtually every other book, especially those also licensed in NSW, the owners and staff are not giant pieces of shit.
The model did seem unsustainable, and honestly I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it did but it operated as essentially Pinnacle-lite and the bets they took that no one else would, had a significant part in shaping the market.
The punting landscape is going to be significantly worse off because of this acquisition.

Yes that's part of the reason as well (one they have been very vocal on), it was sustainable before all the POC and turnover taxes were introduced/raised but taking smart money and absorbing the losses in conjunction with the exorbitant taxes wasn't sustainable. They had to either switch the model to a soft book (and we have about a million of them already) or this was going to be inevitable.
Sportsbet and Unibet used to be good with informed money for decent amounts, but they stopped around the time of the new taxes. TS kept on pushing til the very end though.
