Big bad bazza retires

Anyway... Thug or not.... Hall held a premiership cup above his head as captain of the Sydney Swans. That's what I'll remember.

And I saw Wayne Carey hold up two as captain of North. That's what I'll remember etc.

Anyone get serioulsy injured by a slight push?

What he did to Staker is a cowardly attack. People are removed from our society for similar king hits. Good comparsion:thumbsu:

But in society if you pulling on my shirt and attempting to ****** my movement, that could be used as a provocation defence. Keep up with the analogies and comparisons, one of them will stick eventually. :thumbsu:

Provocation is not a complete defence to a crime though - it may merely reduce the penalties incurred.

Barry Hall retiring?

At first I was like whaaaaaa?

But then I lol'd

Staker was the coward, attempting to be a niggling wank and hiding behind the rules. He got what players like that deserve.

Honestly..... this comment is not worthy of a response.

Anyway...

Anyone suggesting Hall at his best was not elite needs to get the blinkers off.
Anyone suggesting Hall at his worst was not a thug needs to get the blinkers off.
Anyone who thinks Barry Hall's vicious on field brain-fades will be long forgotten in 30 years need to ask themselves what type of player was Robbie Muir? Not sure? Was he a head case though? ahhh, thought so.

Nonetheless credit where it's due & well done on reviving his career at the Dogs after being turfed out of the Swans. Everyone deserves another chance & Barry certainly served his time along the way (except the GF... WTF??). I for one won't miss him & his 5+ goal hauls, just as i didn't miss Fev when i knew he'd ragdolled our defenders for the last time.

I do hope he has a go at boxing but the body might be gone.

A fair post.

Hard to disagree with any of it.

offended guy is offended. :D Whinge all you want, he'll be loved for a long, long time. A fantastic Swans and a club legend.

Can you North fans dish out some more zingers? I wanna hear the one about him being nearly better than Longmire! Hahahaha

Individually, Longmire kicked 5-plus goals in a game 36 times, 7-plus goals 18 times and 10-plus twice, before a serious knee injury force him out of the game for the 1996 season

Did Hall ever break double figures in a game?

Longmire also won a Coleman - in the era of Dunstall and Lockett and Ablett no less - something Hall never did.

Longmire managed to kick 90+ in a season twice, something Hall never did once. Horse did it in years we didn't play finals either.

The facts are stark. Longmire was by far and away the better full forward. Sadly, he suffered a series of bad knee injuries.

Hall was a lesser talent who played for longer, thus racking up more goals over his career.

But on every other measure, Longmire clearly has him.

Case closed.

Champion forward with a tainted legacy thanks to his brain fades. His last two years with the Bulldogs showed he has worked hard to fix his bad boy image and he will go down in the top twenty full forwards of all time.

Who is the next cab off the rank in the great Bulldogs hunt for the forward who can win them a flag? We've had Rawlings then Akermanis then Hall in recent year.

Maybe we should go for quality like Ben McKinley?

Wayne Carey would also be a worse player than Longmire based on your criteria above.

And you do realise Hall wasn't a full forward for most of his career right?

Say what you like about Hally, but nobody can dispute his ability to play. Some of the most decorated players in game have had just as many indescretions both on and off the field as him and are still seen in a positive light. Remember the 3 players voted as the best ever ( Matthews, Ablett Snr and Carey) all had troubles along the way. You can even throw Lockett in for the Caven one too. The fact that commentators referred to him as "Big Bad Bustling" probably didn't help. He played the game hard and tough even though the Staker and Maguire incidents were none of those things. I for one will miss seeing him steaming out on a lead just daring someone to sit in the hole.

He might retire as a bulldogs player, but he'll be remembered as the Swans premiership captain. Had to say his tears at the SCG prompted some of my own.

Thanks for everything Baz!!!! Call him a thug if you want, but you'll never take away this:

That would all make sense and be fair and accurate if they played in the same era. Sadly for your arguments sake, they did not. I'm not sure if you're aware of the current style of football, but it's much, much harder to kick big bags of goals in this day and age than it was in the mid-90's. As your comrade noted, the Swans were famous for their strangling, stoppage based style and the fact Hall managed to kick so many goals with the sort of stop-start nature of play is a testament to his quality as a centre-half forward.

Keep dishing up the zingers though, must be why crowds are so embarassing at North games, they're all at home writing comic dynamite. :thumbsu:

Simon Minton-Connel was a better full-forward than Longmire.

So who replaces Baz at full forward? - Grant certainly isn't up to the task at the moment.

Gillard reckoned there was more chance she'd play full forward for the Dogs than of knifing, er, I mean challenging Rudd for PM. Now that Bob Brown is PM that chance remains open- the Dogs could replace a likeable bloke perceived as a thug with a real one.

well done to himhttp://www.************/sports/52/b/happy.gifhttp://www.************/sports/123/b/happy.gif

Interesting where this view comes from?

Are you one of the North supporters who wanted him hung, drawn and quartered after last year?

The man is a premiership captain, and one of the best forwards the game has ever seen. Show some respect.

Interesting if he kicks another 12 goals before the end of the year he'll have kicked as many goals as Carey.
And what relevance does that have?

You are OBSESSED with North Melbourne.
