It's hard to argue with success. Still pissed me off that we seem to switch off in England after we retain though :/

We only retained in England because bairstow dropped about 15 catches.

If they had of played a competent keeper they would have been 2 games up to start the series .

We won the test championship because India struggle against a swinging ball

Some of the captaincy calls from Cummins have been terrible .

As for the world cup good on them for the win head has been amazing .

Both warner and maxi showed they were still flat track bullies and don't play well against the better teams

The final was pretty much won at the coin toss with the dew and wicket prep .

This team was torn apart vs India in the 4 test series losing 3 to 1 but he winning 1 in India gives you a pass ?

There's always room for improvement, and that's what's been happening steadily over the past few months. Cummins' captaincy has grown a leg, in my view. I'm a convert at this point.

Honestly playing India in England is more of an advantage than playing them in Australia.

We have had a lot of stuff go our way in the last 12 months .

If anything Cummins is a lucky captain ill give him that . He has also played some fine innings with the bat too .

I just feel he ****s up a lot as captain. Things like bad field placing and poor bowling tactics have cost us games . Also in the limited overs stuff not calculating his bowlers overs and leaving hazelwood our best bowler of the day with overs to spare .

Also bairstows poor wicket keeping in the first 2 tests literally handed us the first 2 games

You're really underselling the team's performances TBH.

Won the WTC on a neutral ground.
Don't know what else we could do except play it in India.

Retaining the Ashes away is always hard to do.
"If Bairstow didn't keep".
If Lyon didn't do his calf.

There's always swings and roundabouts.
Injuries, dropped catches etc.

Played England who had won something like 9 of their last 10 matches on their home decks, which definitely doesn't suit us and drew.

We weren't even in the top 3 favourites going into the WC.
Beat an unbeaten India, who doctored wickets to suit their team and yet we won it at the toss and only Head play well apparently.

Yep, put it all down to Cummins being a lucky captain and Head I suppose.

The team has done some frustrating things at times - mainly throwing away good positions in tests with odd bowling plans - but on the balance of results I'm not complaining.

Just shutting Indian fans the **** up for a while is a worthy result. Silenced them in the WTC. Broke them in the world cup and kept England salty in the interim.

It's simple: you pick the Scorchers list. Best of the rest fill in for the overseas players and second spinner. Yes it will mean letting go of your pet players and accepting that as great as Smith is his ability declines in proportion to the length of the game. But we might win.

scroll back through to the ashes and there was plenty of criticism of cummins captaincy, deservedly so.

We were lucky to retain the ashes.

World Cup final, deserves all the praise though no disagreement there.
