I agree with Thai on this, we have a good base of midfielders. Maybe with brand having question marks on his ability we would do it for a key back, i think we have time now to go to the draft for the next few years and take best available. Just my thoughts, could be wrong though.
Strike while the iron is hot, window is very much open. Recruit a solid defender and another outside mid, we are back in business. Let the other clubs develop the youngsters, we'll just pick them up when they're ripe. Rinse, repeat.

Thai, we have been trading our picks for established players successfully for years now. Why fix it when it ain't broke?

I know Sb, and I am a great believer in keeping things going when they are going fine. However, how disappointed will we bi if we are unable to secure Langers 3, or another f/s, or one of our academy boys is there is 10 years superstar potential? Another possible scenario could be similar to the Kennedy to Sydney, where we could lose one of our up and comers to make room for a "big fish.'

I know this is a big fish of '2017' thread but...

I thought just for the sake of discussion I'd make a list of players that become a free agent next year in 2018 that we might line up as potential targets, purely because I don't think we'll make a play for a free agent this year.

- Rory Sloane
- Richard Douglas
- Taylor Walker
- Marc Murphy
- Ben Reid
- Cameron Guthrie
- Tom Lynch
- Max Gawn
- Shaun Atley
- Andrew Gaff
- Luke Shuey
- Luke Dahlhaus

It's a balancing act Thai. One eye on the future and the other on the now. With the imminent departure of Hodge and Burgoyne, I would be shocked if we didn't replace them with proven experienced players. I reckon we will pick up a big fish, an experienced defender and a gem from the draft. In Clarko I trust.

- Rory Sloane - Yes, but is loyal to the Crows, can't see him leaving
- Richard Douglas - Nah
- Taylor Walker - See Sloane
- Marc Murphy - Blues on the rise, he'll stay
- Ben Reid - Maybe, but I hope not
- Cameron Guthrie - Not worth it
- Tom Lynch - Yes
- Max Gawn - Yes, but don't think he'll leave
- Shaun Atley - Nah
- Andrew Gaff - Worth a shot but KPP are probably the focus
- Luke Shuey - Good player but not interested
- Luke Dahlhaus - Would be a good replacement for Puopolo but think Stewart has us covered

Much cheaper than Fyfe and more durable, does any stats man know how many games Dusty has missed since entering the league? Doesn't seem to get injured. Imagine Martin, Jaeger and Mitchell in the guts!

Would love to see Daniel running around with Cyril. Do we know when his contract expires?

The only games dusty misses is from suspension - 3 games in 7 years. If club thinks hes ok off field then thats a big tick, obviously

I would like 1 more gun ready made mid to fix any deficiencies we may have waiting for our own to develop. I have preferences but 1 more would be awesome.
In respect to keeping or trading our first round picks, I don't see it as a problem either way. We have to use 2 every 4 years or whatever but if we are going to stake claim to a forst round pick it should be to trade into the top 5-10 & secure a genuine KPP like Wietering.

Rightfully HFC won't give a crap what I think, but I don't want Dustin Martin anywhere near our club.
Anyone who equates bikie gangs with footy clubs is a dangerous idiot.
I'm good with those who want to do either, but lets not kid ourselves. You don't have to break the law to get a jacket in some of them, but you do HAVE TO in many others. Ride with who you like, but there is a whole lot of bad going on in those clubs and it's nothing like the environment we try to create for the young men who become charges of our club, coaches and fellow players.
Martin's father has a serious criminal past, and were it not for footy Dustin probably wouldn't be too much different listening to his commentary on life.

No where near our young players please, we don't need him.

Should move heaven and earth to get Lynch

End of this season, I posted a copy of every player uncontracted at seasons end and got ridiculed for not just listing big fish players... my opinion come seasons end D Rioli will be. And quite a few others I mentioned

In Dustin's time with the RFC it has been heavily reported, and confirmed by himself, that he likes the company of certain well known criminals.
Not your petty variety of wannabe celebrity who gets done for a bag of dope, more your underworld type who is likely to knee cap you if you bump into him in a bar.
Martin's unapologetic for it, and has said he wouldn't allow others to change his circle when he's away from the club.

He's got Richmond type stamped all over him, nothing like Vickery.

His Dad is in another country because he was deported due to his bikie links.

I concur that I don't want Martin within an inch of our club for character reasons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but has Dusty ever been in trouble with the law besides that chopstick incident? I don't recall drugs or drink driving or assault...

Ok his dad might have a history, so? I don't see bikies rocking up the family day or young richmond supporters wanting to be bad like Dusty. I'm talking on football abilities. The guy actually has a good record himself. I get it though, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If we are going on reputation and affiliation, half the guys in the NBA and NFL wouldn't be playing. If the club see him fit, so do I.

Of course we don't want him at the club if he is going to affect our young players in a negative way. The older players I imagine don't give a fukc about his background, they just wanna win flags. I don't see Richmond players or coaches ever complaining about Dusty, quite the opposite.

Dusty is an interesting individual, i would love him a Hawthorn. Has many character traits that you want at football clubs.

Hasnt had the best role models growing up BUT a person like him wont let that mold him.

King, Swan are two individuals that have come across rough but are great people.

The way i see is, if your questioning a kid who has done no wrong maybe you should be questioning your tolerance. Its your life to live and its their life to live.

Well put. Everyone has their views and that's cool. I can see why some wouldn't want him at the club. Tattoos, bike club affiliation and so on. I personally haven't seen any of that affect his actual game. The guy is a fantastic player and has a great record both with injuries and reports.

Each to their own I guess :) Go the Hawks!

I agree. Martin himself - despite the attention - actually has not done much wrong. Of course there are the Buddy-like rumours of drug use but to me that's just internet gossip. I am sure the club will know how much truth there is to it.

As for the bikie family connection, that is irrelevant. His dad is a deadshit. Dustin misses his dad and wishes he wasn't deported. You can hardly hang the bloke for that. I work with someone whose sibling is a notorious criminal. You would never pick it. You don't choose your relatives.

That grinds my gears, i have close freinds how are involved in those crowds. They are great individuals the only issue is some of the crowds they run with for a number of different reasons.
I dont see myself as someone who shouldn't be involved with the hawthorn FC just because my freinds' freinds are suspect. Dusty is exactly the same.

Who is this kid you speak of? A 25 yr old man!
Role models & mold. The apple & the tree.

Which King & Swan?

Dustin is a good player but not for the family club, imo.
