OK, i cannot confirm this but my sources are working on it. Apparently Carlton captain Anthony Koutofides has met with the Carlton board and told them that his body is no longer up to the AFL standard. He allegedly said that when he is fit again he wants a FAREWELL game at optus. Apparently he wanted to retire at the start of the year but was told no because it would affect membership sales, and as we know Carlton need all the members they can get.

Once again I cannot confirm this and it is from a poster at my site, www.sportscapital.tk.

The CEO is making an announcement and is doing it at the same time as they are doing a PR thing for Campo's 200th game. Probably not the right person or the right occasion to make such a sombre announcement as Kouta's retirement.

Still we are used to all sorts of things happening at the club so I will just wait and see ......

If true - at $1m+ per game in 2004 will ensure Kouta is in the record books as the most expensive and over paid player in the comp for many many years to come. (if not forever)

If and I say if Kouta were to retire, I am sure the Club and he would come to some arrangement about his wages.

He certainly wouldn't get paid the next two years of his contract.

At 1.2 mil per game, Kouta isnt depressed.

Would you be happy if your captain declared that he wouldn't play unless 100% fit.

Crawford, Voss, Hird etc all do things their bodies tell them they can't. They do this because they are leaders and they push themselves past the mental and physical pain barrier to demonstrate it. Kouta holds himself back for weeks because of (i believe) the mental uncertainty and finally plays one game. Then when it's not perfect on the Monday he goes into self doubt mode again. Even when told it is good enough to play and the probability of doing further damage is minimal he goes out of the club to get a second opinion to play to his self doubt.

Sometimes, regardless of risk, there's a time when you just have to put it on the line!

There is nothing wrong with second opinions and wise people always receive second & third quotes, etc...
