Not getting a ruck through the draft or trade was a really, really bad mistake by Reid.
We tried to get Moyle but he re-sign with GCS, he would have been a very good get to replace ROB. Probably the strategy is to get Goad back next year, he hasn't developed as further as you want but is still very young and then go for Draper as a FA and not cost us any draft capital.

Personally, I don't buy their arguments at all. I don't believe in leeching off other clubs, and hoping that a decent option will appear right when we need to grab them. As for the second reason - if the other clubs can all make it work, despite being aligned with a single VFL club, then why can't Adelaide make it work?

So you don't believe in looking for players with talent who aren't getting opportunities at their club?

Ruck is just a role and there have always been more players who fill that role than opportunities.

I still think we're one short and we should have exited Smith to grab a Knobel or similar. But they prioritised other things and kicked ruck down the road for a year.

I've said it before - our failure to recruit another ruck since Strachan is just outright negligence on the part of our list management staff. And Strachan is only 2 months younger than ROB, so even if he was up to AFL level we'd still have to be looking at replacing them both around the same time anyway.

At this point we're not in the market for a ruckman. We're in the market for at least THREE ruckmen. Like you said, a #1 option, an AFL ready backup, and a developing option - we need all 3.

We've shown we do not give a **** about having a developing option, so we're not in the market for that. After all, at this point it's on purpose.

Though, I wouldn't be too surprised if we look to bring in a #1 at years end and extend Strachan/McAndrews for another year to sit as a #2 to stagger out replacing both.

Can’t agree with that. Not sure why Chayce is the only one that’s received over coaching.
I think people need to realise that his level is what he’s put out the majority of his career.
He’s has more chances than anyone on the list over multiple coaches.

It's certainly a convenient argument more than a realistic one. A coach I don't like ruined a player.

Plus I agree, the biggest problem with Jones has always been Jones. We just didn't read the room and thought he was our savior in 2020, which is what led us into the career trajectory that he fell apart.

Then explain why successful clubs have and continue to do so like Geelong, Sydney and a lot of others as well?

I put up a list of the out of contract rucks the other day...very slim pickings and you'll pay a premium in draft capital to shake a highly promising youngster loose from a club that's put in serious time into their development.

By the looks Sam Draper is our only option if he doesn't re-sign with the Bombers but then again he's a RFA not a free agent and we'd most certainly take a big hit salary cap wise. Any way you spin it it's shit list management.
Rhys Stanley was traded in. Brad Ottens was traded in. Brody Grundy was traded in. Peter Ladhams was traded in.

That's off the top of my head - for better or worse, they're two good examples of doing what we're doing.

Perhaps you'd like to explain why we made such strong overtures to the Suns young developing ruck Ned Moyle before he re-signed with the Suns if that was the case? Extend Strachan please tell me you're not serious?

There’s a difference between drafting a ruckman to develop and getting one that’s ready to go (even if still developing) like Moyle.

We laid the foundation of this mistake by keeping Smith on the list, which would have created a list spot for us to draft/trade for one.
I forgot we still had Smith. Is he actually on the list this season?

Did that stop the Suns drafting a ruckman with pick 9 in 2023 or Dimma grabbing young developing ruck Max Knobel from out of under Freo's noses when he was available even though Freo intended re-rookieimng him?

Golumless is a crows supporter and said “we’ve shown no interest in developing a ruck ” he’s talking about the crows.
What the suns do is irrelevant

And I called bullshit, is Ned Moyle not a young developing ruckman being groomed to take over from veteran ruck Jarrod Witts? If that poster was right why did we pursue Moyle?

He would surely save on 3 years vs developing one we draft?

Can you stop peddling this, it is the biggest load of bollocks. If it were true we would have been swamped for ruck choices instead of being shit out of luck.

The only clubs that had an interest in McAsey were well down the draft order. Sydney who you say had an interest had the pick directly before us and weren’t keen. I mean, are you trying to make me point for me?

McAsey only mentioned for us, Hawks and Port.
Quote where I said Sydney had an interest.

Don't say things you can't back up.
