LOL

This is the bloke that shitcans and I mean really really shitcans blokes like Sloane and Laird having a shot at me.

How can he go backwards when he's never really shown he has AFL endurance, unless you consider SANFL at that level.

Ahhhh so it's down to Darren Burgess....OK got ya.

How can he go backwards? Show me your posts criticising his fitness the other seasons that he hit a game or 2. Bet you can’t. Does me criticising Sloane and Laird hurt your feelings? You’re unbelievably hypocritical, you can criticised you like but when others criticise your little man crushes, some Mutineer law has been broken.

Sloane and Laird were very good footballers for a long time for us, but everyone’s time eventually arrives. And Sloane was a terrible captain for our club, just horrible, the outcomes speaks for themselves.

Did become a better father and husband though, can't take that away from him.

Didn't he have a groin injury last season? That would make it hard to run out a game.

That was definitely the stated reason that he was subbed out. Seems very strange that whatever caused the groin to lose power half way through a game would be all clear a round later, although it was a 9 day break.

And was utterly destroyed the week after as well

At what point did Strachan cease being able to run out games properly? There's no debate that his fitness was lacking when we needed him last year. However, his performance in his first few games were quite credible - there were rave reviews after his debut match, against Norf in 2020, when he held his own against Todd Goldstein (who was one of the AFL's better ruckmen at the time). Similarly, I don't remember anyone questioning his fitness when he played games in 2021 & 2022.

What caused him to struggle so badly with his fitness last year, given that it hadn't previously been a problem? Was it just old man time, or was he carrying an injury which limited him?

He was subbed off due to a groin issue against Richmond, it was part of the broadcast and in the club's injury report back then. We know you don't like him, but no need to make up stories. The funny thing with him is he played a couple of games 2 seasons prior and fitness didn't seem a concern, but 2 years later and he's cooked half way through a second quarter. How has he been allowed to go backwards under the control of Burgess?

He really has had an interesting career, when we finally lose patience with ROB phoning it in, Strachan gets a couple of games but it's always a very tough assignment. Grundy in top form, Nankervis, the Big O, Ryder/Marshall combo, Gawn/Jackson combo and 2 rounds against Goldy. Probably why he's happy to stick around and just play SANFL.
I agree - somehow him being unable to run out a game is suddenly gospel across this board, when it hadn't ever been an issue before that?

I think it's more likely that he was carrying injury. Actually, a quick google shows that Nicks mentioned him being subbed out because of a groin.

Anyway, he wasn't getting delisted because he was contracted, and there's ample evidence we couldn't afford to cut an early contract.

We're talking about a sample size of my two games, and he was subbed out with a groin injury the first time.

Its a strange one, perhaps being bashed and crashed into as a lone ruck in the SANFL has taken its toll ??

You wouldnt think so, but im struggling to come up with anything else.

Let's be realistic here. His fitness was never questioned prior to 2024, when it was shown to be diabolical.

Something happened between his last AFL game in 2022, and the games he played in 2024, which resulted in his fitness falling away dramatically. The question is what - and can it be fixed?

The answer to "can it be fixed" is probably "not in 2025", given that he's missing the entire pre-season due to injury. Given that his contract expires at the end of the year, there's no time left to fix the problem before he's delisted at the end of the year.

Yeah that bad on the 6th June when subbed off after getting pantsed by Nankervis he fronted up the next week against Sydney/Grundy at Adelaide Oval while earlier that day at the same location ROB was being tag teamed by Jarrad Redden and Connor Ballenden but still managed 21 disposal 35 hit outs and 5 clearances.

I have watched quite a bit of Strachanie live in the SANFL and “ on device”. I agree that he looks quite fit against most SANFLruckmen. He does seem to struggle against Big bodied ruckman in the SANFL but there are not a lot of these and they are/were generally guys lacking elite fitness (e.g. Redden). I suspect the combination of a very fit, big bodied ruckman in the AFL revealed Strachanie’s deficiencies.

I did think during his ill-fated games in the AFL last year that he was either struggling with injury or a bug. I think that it is now “Time to Fold Em”.

No argument there. It's absolutey "time to fold em" when his contract expires at the end of the season.

I'm just trying to ascertain why his fitness was markedly poorer in 2024 than it was in his previous AFL appearances from 2020-22.
