What role does Laird actually play? I don't think its the lockdown small forward role as Max is likely to get the best small forward. He's not a HBF as he's disposal is poor and doesn't run and carry. All that leaves is a loose third defender who will look after mediums? He's too short and small for that. This smacks of trying to fit a player in the lineup where it just doesn't make sense.

Ideally you want Bond taking the most dangerous small forward and releasing Max to being more attacking given he basically has all the weapons, pace, disposal, strength, courage, etc. He would be a menace in the backline for opposition forwards.
Agree with your post about the questions of Laird's role. It's not obvious...and like quite a few in here wouldagree, it looks like a case of favouritism instead of a more ruthless pragmatism.

But if I was coach, I might try and use Laird in the backline to rove to the talls. Somewhere recently I read that our ground ball gets in our defence was a weak area. Laird would actually be ideal to help address this. Rory might not be great at pure defending or attacking, but he is good at accumulating in tight. What he does with the ball next is variable but it's likely much better than a loose ball spill straight to the oppo small forwards.

I like Nank and want to see what Ryan can offer but he's currently an unknown. I could argue that Nank is too similar to Max and Worrell to offer a point of difference which Laird is.

Laird however would need to improve on his exposed form at half back. Hanging on to his spot won't last forever with such pressure from below.

Sadly everything thus far has pointed to Nank being usurped by Milera for this weekend.

If there is a silver lining, I think only Nank or Draper are the likely contenders for the sub position, so you’d think at least one of them play.

I’ll be there tomorrow. We play Sunday so it’ll be an extended squad announced but hopefully training gives a good indication of the final team.
Take your Nank banner with you please

Not only does he bring none of the required characteristics of successful back half players, he'll also make everyone around him a little bit less effective. There's no knocking he'll have a strong impact back there.

Ok so, It happened. Nank not even named in a 26-man extended bench. Milera IN. And Nicks in a presser talking about starting Sid as sub... Seriously?? All I can say is I hope Nicks watched the Tigs last night to see how you debut talent. You put them on the field, for the whole game, and let them go to work. WHY are we the only side that does this!!??

omg. I just realised Nank wasn't even named. Thought he had an excellent pre-season!

Big shout out to bigman for getting us all through another preseason.

Thanks bigman - I want to thank you bigman for all you did this offseason. I am sorry all of those other nuffies derailed your threads countless times - I would never do such a thing and was dismayed at their behaviour. See ya in November!

I'm happy Milera got the spot. Now, he has played 100 games, and his kids are eligible for F/S or F/D. After this week, I don't care if he plays another game for the Crows.

Given its game day, I’m no longer of any use!

I’d like to thank everyone for their kind words over the pre season. I enjoy going to these sessions regardless but there’s no doubt the feedback and interest from you guys makes it even more worthwhile.

I’ve tried to be as fair and balanced as possible. Every pre season gets you optimistic but there’s no doubt this summer has looked and felt that little bit more exciting. The proof will be in the pudding starting today.

Once again thanks everyone!

What? You're not going to training during the season?

A big thank you for all the time and effort you have put into the reports Bigman!

I was meant to take a break from bigfooty over the offseason but you made me come back.

I genuinely got excited every time I noticed you posted a new training session update.

Liking your posts doesn't seem enough - if we ever cross paths in real life I owe you more than a few beers.

Cheers

Bloody great work, thanks mate. You provided nourishment to many a Crows fan.

You're a superstar, mate. Thanks for making yet another preseason much more bearable!
