Based on the same team (Essendon) with 1 addition (Goddard).

Your example was 2 different teams and 2 different players (Morton and Harvey).

They are nothing alike.

You won your first 4 last year without Goddard. It's a little optimistic to say Goddard is now the reason you're 4-0 this season.

Good on him for caring, but the St Kilda players who snubbed him are by no means low life or scum - they feel he abandoned them and can act as they like

Turn it ####ing up ffs...lol

Get back to reality.

His leadership and the example he set during pre-season training helped us no doubt.

But who the hell can measure such things anyway.

A show of vulnerability, emotion and genuine care. Amazing stuff which takes real balls to show. One of the more interesting and touching things I've seen in a footy interview. A tough situation, and it can be argued that Saint's fans have a right to be pissed off...you can't argue he didn't love St. Kilda though.

I thought it was great of him to show genuine emotion. he still loves his ex-team mates and why shouldn't he.

This is what I wanted to say. But being a Bomber, it would've been dismissed.

Such a perfect way to describe the moment.

Can someone bump the threads from back when Roo was filmed crying on the bench at the Gabba after he did his shoulder as a young fella. He was pilloried on here for years about being a sook and a crybaby, it still gets brought up.

Now Goddard spurts a few during an interview and he's "showing some heart"? Random...

He'll get over it once he counts his cash, that's all that matters obviously. in the old days for guys like Barker, Loewe, Harvey etc etc it was worth shedding 200K from your high end market value to stay loyal and play with your mates, but obviously those days are gone. He can't have it both ways though.

For footballing reasons he has made the right decision. Saints are another 10 years off a flag now, bombers are much closer and a possibility within his career frame. A wise decision, and the best result for both clubs. It is a fallacy that you only received pick 13 for him when he was worth much more IMO. Scully worth 2 first round picks and goddard 1 is an out and out joke.

Its a bit different. I don't have 40,000 people paying to watch me go to work every weekend.

Football clubs are about passion, pride, respect, loyalty. To change your colours for cash, we'll... you sold yourself over.

Lets not forget BJ was getting a decent wage as it was, the majority of people here wouldn't get anywhere near he would. I'd have to work probably 20 years to get his 5 years worth of playing football. Money isn't everything in life.

Some people play football with their mates, some people leave their mates to play for clubs offering them $1,000 a week. Why do some choose the money, and why do some choose their mates?

I just think, surely you don't need to be so greedy with cash. These guys get paid VERY well compared to others. Money shouldn't be the end all.

I don't hate BJ, I just think he made the wrong decision. He put his own interests before what was best for the club. We gave him something we thought was fair, even offered the captaincy, whilst at least giving the club some cash to start the rebuild.

We wanted him, he left for the cash. Cash over his mates. Pretty simple. It wasn't about playing in the midfield, he isn't one.
Don't also forget how he was pissed off at Ball for leaving, and that wasn't even for cash, it was because he hated Lyon.

I'm sorry, but this is an incredibly simplistic view. Goddard showed as much loyalty to the club as they were willing to show him. A 3 year deal when he wanted 4 is simply not good enough for a guy who is 27yo. Sure, the 4th year he may not be worth the 700k, but if you want to champion the loyalty factor, then it goes both ways. It is simple. Essendon wanted him badly because we believe we can win a flag. St Kilda didn't want him as much as us. Welcome to the world of free agency. The only travesty is that you received unfair compensation.

All this talk of money this and chance at a flag that...who gives a shit? Doesn't change the fact that a grown man can't adequately reconcile himself with his own decision to the point of keeping it together when coming up against his old team.

Perhaps if he'd looked his mates in the face and told them why he was leaving he wouldn't feel so conflicted. Perhaps he did and yet still blubbered like an immature child...who knows?

In any case, he should have first thought about this months ago and many times since.

Save your tears for things that really matter Brendon...otherwise you'll just make yourself look like a twit.

Scott Watters comes across as an A## hole. I got no doubt he is the reason BJ even thought of leaving. He must have thought his football won't be going anywhere if he stays. St Kilda will be bottom 4 by next year. And that contract was his last where he can earn some money. Simple decision really. Clearly the right decision also.

You can't take away the great memories he had and he gave at the Saints because he moved. Sad to see Saints supporters carrying on like pork chops. Yes, my favourite player left for Port in the 90s. It's his decision to make. So just suck it up and move on.

Remember the bloke St Kilda screwed over when he tried to be loyal and move on to the rookie list. Remember Jarryd Allen anyone? Loyal...yeah right. Get F-ed.

You need to work on your logic...this makes no sense whatsoever.

BJ - take notes from Judd & Gazz - emotionally professional. Have a break, looks like you need it.

All the talk about contracts, more opportunity blah blah: it doesn't really matter. What you saw from that interview was genuine emotion. As a Saints member/fan who watched him play for years and give his all, it was very difficult to watch that interview of a club legend in different colours showing emotion about the club you love.

Not something you see everyday in professional sport.

Not something you see everyday in professional sport.

And nor should we. Be happy when you win, learn something when you lose.

At the end of the day...it is sport.

Maybe I've got it wrong and he was crying because he was thinking about that bloke he met down at the soup kitchen last week when he was volunteering. Then again, maybe not.

there may be something in that, you're right. If the saints receive what the dees did for scully, then it is a win/win. In reality, it was not.

I went to the football yesterday, and at the end of the game I cried. I admit it. I didn't try to hold back the emotion either, I openly wept. I didn't have Cam Mooney there to comfort me either. I had 2 feral collingwood supporter mates "HTFU ya sook!". At all levels, from the ceo down to the boot studder - and even the supporters in the outer, football is an emotional game.

I never said it, just explaining what another poster meant and I have been caught up in it ever since.

He will be good for us no doubt, we may still be 4-0 without him.
