That is a fairly substantial outlay for clubs. What does that $25000 outlay include?

I could be wrong but Im pretty sure it's 25k a year for 3 grades
The team I coach will be in D4. We played Gosford last year in a trial, they were reasonably competitive against our twos but got hammered by our ones. Having said that, if they can get a decent squad of 30 they'll go a long way.Looking forward to the trip north!
A bit of out there thinking, imagine the BDAFL was absorbed by Sydney AFL? Newcastle City could go Prems or D1, same for Cardiff, the rest filter down to the D2/D3 area.......now I'll get my head bitten off for saying that, but if your comp is struggling, why not?
Agree pekay, last year was not one of their better years. Gossy has never made the bdafl finals but were not far off a few years ago, some of their better players are playing premier div now in sydney,so if they get a full squad togethere, maybe a few of their better players back in the fold they will be up there!
I would like bdafl to try divisionalisation first (2013 I think) but if not the Coast teams could very well try their luck in Sydney.
The Newcastle teams are stronger with more depth but would have to travel further and also they have more clubs/teams than the coast and more poss teams to join/potential.
Therefore they would maybe just go back to being a Newcastle comp
I like your thinking tho
Three teams in BDAFL is $12,000 (6K for 1s)
Sydney Premier division is about $32,000 from the information I have been given recently.
So, hypothetical, if all coast teams went south, what would that leave in the Newcastle comp?
Cardiff
New City
Singleton
Nelson Bay
Warners Bay?
Lake Mac?
My geography is a bit skewiff, forgive me if there are others.
I'd say for starters the wage of the GM. Other stuff such as
:game balls
:subsidising the cost of the footy record
:subisidising cost of the shitty season launch and the Medal night
aying for the shitty grand final breakfast
:admin expenses- stationary etc etc
aying for the shitty rep weekend
:meeting expenses for the shitty board meetings
They just need to provide a well run league and have a medal night, a descent footy record and maybe a rep game for the young blokes, not the old has beens like me. No-ones got time to go to all this other crap except for the board members. Most blokes just work and want to play a little footy on their weekend.
If you were to write down what the problems are in the league and how to fix them, in priority order, what would you write?
For mine it needs very good management, incentives, discipline and some achievable goals.
Going on year to year as is, is a recipe for disaster. I agree with Noodles, divisionalisation cant get here quick enough BUT, someone will always have to come last!
Dont think so.
A PD club with a reserves and U18 PD team would be charged as per below - does not incl finals umpiring costs thought, also doesnt allow for no show of umpires which does happen so should even up.
Affliation fees all three teams $4860
Insurance fees all three teams $2535
Medal Night (compulsory 2 tables) $1980
Umpiring Costs $18828 (three central umps in PD and two centrals for other grades as well as 2 boundry and 2 goal accross all grades)
2013!! altho I wont hold my breath, maybe a few clubs leaving might get them moving on divisionalisation.
There willalways be someone coming last but at least you have a fighting chance of having 1 of your grades taste success and you can build on that!
Sydney has grown immensly since they went this way and It will only get bigger!
Aha Noodles, so true but the trouble with only one open age grade succeeding in a club is that all the resources and players become absolutely and probably unwittingly focused towards that grade and the other, regardless of it being first or second, becomes neglected. It has happened so many times before. So divisionalisation is not all that easy, it will taken sensible planning and a good allocation of support personnel.
In the end though is should succeed but clubs have to be smart about it.
It will also allow clubs with an abundance of players to possibly enter an additional open age team, particularly if the league were to reduce the numbers of the lowest grade. Also, it will open the door for new clubs to enter the competition through these grades.
The league is probably at testing period. It has occasioned success and the other end of the pendulum awaits it and this will happen unless good strong management prevails.
As mUch as Id love to see the divisions work I dont think it will..we have a bare minimum of clubs as it is with 2 grades...the reason it worked in Syd was cause there were 2 separate comps(sfl/sfa) and a sh*t load of clubs/teams...
But I guess it's time the comp tries something
Cant agree with Cardiff winning the Newcastle leg. I think Warners Bay would be very much favoured.
You are right about thinking outside the square. For too long people 'drift along following what was done last year' and you know what, some get sick of it.
There is a lot to be said for changing simple things to make it all more interesting. It doesn't matter that no-one else in Australia has done it, be adventurous. If it stuffs up don't do it again. Trouble is, the losers get to hate it. Those with vision win all the time.
What about this:
In round 3 (for example) all goals kicked outside the 50m arc are rewarded with 9 points.
In round 7 teams can play 26. Eighteen on the field and eight interchange.
In round 11 trial four central umpires. If you dont have them get the umpires Assn to provide two and each club provide one.
In round 14 clubs must supply females for boundary and goal umpires in all grades.
In round 17, first grade can only consist of players aged 25 and under.
Its stuff like this that stimulate the competition. The league might be geographically out on a limb (with people putting them down and shit canning the standard) but they can create and maintain interest by introducing unique ideas where everyone has to try a little harder and everyone gets a buzz out of it.
To get more ideas canvass the clubs. The important thing though is not to introduce too many because it loses its effect.
Why not try it?
Well if you've got all these bright ideas why dont you join the board you dimwit. How do any of those points stimulate the competition???? you sir, are a dimwit. Also the rest of you Internet Warriors, Noodles etc. JOIN THE BOARD!!!!
Warners bay cant be favoured in anything........... Least of beating City and Cardiff.
