When 8 out of the top 10 in the club Best and Fairest dont return, as well as not really having any ins, the Bay are bound to battle this year.

FIRSTLY- its interesting to see that now deitzy has left Warners Bay, the wheels have fallen off. Warners has always been an ill-disciplined side, now the flow of rep players and AFL pathways have dried up from deitz, so has the talent. I always have liked and had time for john, but it was obvious he abused his power within the afl.( Used to take kids from old club Gosford to warners bay). Rhys dawe was supposed to be a massive in!from all reports he was below average. (not the only one)

SECONDLY- Killarney vale bombers have registered the name"the central coast bombers" as they have made a bid to play in the sydney AFL next season.they plan to play in the bombers strip as the north shore bombers are affiliating with another AFL club after ending things with essendon. After seeing their result against terrigal,i would possibly reconsider the option.Coach todd clarke seems more of a visionary than a realist.

THIRDLY- the whole singleton - lake macquarie fighting for the final prem league position could of been easily sorted out. let them play each other and the winner goes up!!!!! i bet the singo boys would be laughing at the hapless dockers, who thought they would be competitive with their payed players failing to fire."money can't buy happiness!" GO THE ROOSTERS!

FOURTHLY- NOODLES!!! what club are you at??? you are full of info and seem to show up at every club. are you involved with wyong??? if so whose running the show and how are they looking in div 1. (no info from bdafl site-no surprise)any fallout from the loss of dawe.singleton and spinks?

lastly- I'm not out to hammer the league or the clubs in it.just a frustrated fan that can see this league eating itself away from the inside out. I love the footy.

Agreed Warners Bay has been an ill-disciplined side but I think that was something that changed dramatically over the last 2 years, probably to the stage where last year we werent anywhere near hard enough in wanting to put heads over the ball, or competitive when it got tough. Was very disappointed to hear that bad habits returned in round 1 because it was something that wasnt tolerated by the playing group over the last couple of years.

Still trying to work out how I abused my power in the AFL and which kids I got to Warners Bay from Gosford? Ben Jones was the only one who wasnt just about immediate family! He played 6 games for Warners Bay after he came back from Sydney and wasnt too happy with Gosford at the time, got my brother last year and his best mate because they knew Gosford werent going to be competitive in the BDAFL and wanted to try and get something out of the season. Apart from that not sure who else I got for the club? 3 blokes isnt exactly ripping a club apart, and anyway after I left Gosford only about 5 blokes spoke to me from that club in about 2 years!
I can quite happily give you a list of names of kids within the comp that I told to stay at their own clubs after approaching me to come to Warners Bay, because it is ridiculous to be chasing kids and stealing kids from within this competition to form a superclub. It is becoming apparent that 2 clubs will again dominate the comp again and the talent needs to be spread around as much as it can be in order to get the clubs up to that standard. It is a bloody tough competition to coach in as you have a heap of blokes there who want to be competitive and take it seriously, and a heap who just want a beer and a kick. I know I got the balance of that horribly wrong in my time in the role and openly admit I stuffed up plenty of times.

On your other points, have heard the rumor about Killarney and think they would be very competitive in div 2 Sydney, dont know a whole lot about their current list but would be around the div 2 mark. A playoff between Singo/Lake Mac would have been the best way to determine 6th position. As for Wyong, I have no idea why Dawe left, heard he played half ok on the weekend but when your side gets beat by 220 points I cant imagine anyone going too well. Spoke to Spinks the other day because I was amazed he left Wyong and he said he wanted to play 18s and premier footy and not "reserve grade" which is all Wyong are fielding this year. Was very surprised he left Wyong but, and Bryce goes to his 6th club in the last 6 years!

It will be interesting to watch the competition over the next 12 months and see what happens. I would love to see 4 competitive divisions and hope a few clubs who have been battling for a while see success this year.

city do not have 18's either and some of the other premier clubs are low on numbers - cardiff - kv

both won in 2011

From an intrigued onlooker in it seems that bottom line on the whole divisionalisation and the teams fighting for the Premier Division is:

1. The BDAFL wanted a more even comp. When you are in such a diverse area where the code is lagging at number 4 if that, this is never going to happen.
2. The BDAFL wants the comp to grow. Well it really doesn't matter what the BDAFL wants, because if you want the comp to grow, you need the juniors to play and stick around. Has any brainstorming been done to determine how this can be achieved.
3. The BDAFL wanted to improve the comp. Well they kicked out a team that had just as many points as the team they put in. And the team they kicked out had just completed their first year after being promoted.
4. From what I've heard the criteria for entering the Premier Division had very little to do with competitiveness and more about administration and facilities. Which is fine. But were all clubs put through this questionnaire? And what resources both financial and administratively do they give their clubs? The AFL wants to grow this code in the state. My ass.

Looking at the comp, the BDAFL wants a Newcastle / Central Coast comp. Sad things for clubs like Maitland, Singleton and Muswellbrook next year has got no where else to go. Their mentality will kill aussie rules in the upper hunter if they are not careful. And the pool of players will get samller.

It will be interesting to see where the season ends. I truely hope all clubs will be able to get through and better yet, stick around for 2013 and onwards.

Question for anyone out there, can anyone tell me of an aussie rules league that is not city central that has gone divisional? Can't seem to find one and would love to join their chat room?

Whilst I know what you're trying to say Glass I don't think this is the case. Newcastle GSJ have bent over backwards in supporting Singleton, Muswellbrook and Maitland juniors so much so that the u16s competition remains a Sunday event because that's what suits the Upper Hunter clubs.:thumbsdown:

As a result kids are walking away from the code in masses, junior power houses such as Cardiff only have 11 players, Warners Bay 10-11 players, whilst the majority of other teams have less than 10 players in the u16s.

Everyone knows how successful the u16s Friday night competition was and yet the Newcastle GSJ committee allow the once very healthy competition dissolve in their hands. For the sake of the game, who allocates u16s matches at 3.45pm on a Sunday afternoon?

The sooner the junior and senior ranks fall into line and are adminstrated by one body the better. As for preference for a Newcastle/Central Coast, you are along way from reality.

With all the wet weather, are all the games happening as per the draw? The BDAFL web site is as usual full of no information. Any changes etc.

The Following games that were due to be played at Bill Elliott have been transferred to Tulkaba Park Teralba.

BDC: Cardiff v Lake Macquarie
2nd Div: Lake Macquarie v City
U18: Cardiff v Lake Macquarie
Times as normal (10/12/2)

This was finalised on Wednesday as we all know the awesome drainage that Bill Elliott possesses

Your point regarding the BDAFL website is spot on. Absolute disgrace.

What does the 16 week suspension rule etc. mean Deitzy?

What I want to know is why the Terrigal v Wyong first div results were not posted on Sat night or when all the rest of the results were put on?

If it was an issue of an unregistered player from Wyong (home teams always have the advantage here, if they mistakenly play an unregistered player they simply should not add him to their playing list when updating results - illegal, but who will know? If an away club that club should cop the full impact of the rules, particularly if they won the game and lose the points and from what I am told this can easily happen in the early part of the season).

I look forward to the Dogs v Bombers match but will be going to Tulkaba to watch how Lake Macquarie perform.

Any truth to the BDAFL taking on the 16 week suspension/deregistration rule from now on?

It's my understanding that it's in. I had thought it was a blanket thing for affiliated leagues. I might be wrong though...I often am!

Basically the 16 game rule is that any player who has accrued over 16 weeks of suspension in their career is automatically deregistered from the league. I believe it came about as a solution to solving alot of issues with blokes belting blokes on the field etc and get rid of the idiots in the game which unfortunately still exist.

Would say there isnt many blokes in the BDAFL who go out with that mentality. Is a handful or two who have the whiteline fever and push boundaries, but in all honesty it is a pretty clean league.

My issue on the 16 weeks in the BDAFL is with the tribunal procedures. It is basically impossible to get somebody off if a matter goes to the tribunal as the umpires word will always be taken over a player. With no video footage this is fair enough, and a player will generally be suspended. If an umpire makes a trivial report and a player could potentially take a set penalty of 3 weeks, if he goes to the tribunal to fight it, doesnt get off, the player is then looking at 5-6 weeks if he is unsuccessful. It is a big whack when the player may have not done anything wrong!

Im lead to believe that if a player has already clocked up 16 weeks or over of suspension that the next time they get suspended thats it- no more bets!

I'm all for getting rid of idiots out of the game. I just hope they make sure they get this process right so they dont create headaches as I believe some pretty good players in the comp have clocked a few weeks up in the past.

For the sake of the board I would like them to wait until it becomes an official policy of the AFL NSW/ACT if it hasnt yet, to save themselves from a heap of appeals if they go ahead with it.

I have also heard that the substitute player rule has been discussed around the place. Is this right? Surely in a non-professional league this cant happen. How can you tell a bloke who has paid money to play footy that he will be the sub for the day! I hope that is only rumor and not fact!!!

Tips for this weekend

Cardiff by 100+
Killarney by 16 points
City by 40 points

A bulletin came out in March stating the sub player rule would not be coming in.

As for the 16 game suspension policy, I heard it is already in place for NSW/ACT AFL. Can someone confirm if this is the case?

If football in the Hunter area isn't broken Wanderer, it's like an old pair of pluggers being held together with gaffa tape.

Interesting that both junior league and soccer have cancelled this weekend and yet our fine code is going ahead, Well done to the league and the councils for understanding that we are a winter code.

I have some photos of the Hawks Vs Dockers 2nd Round Match match from yesterday up on my webpage. Go to

Then the 2012 BDAFL Gallery, Round 2
Going to be an interesting local derby next week, have Lake Macquarie ever beaten Warners Bay ?

Don't think they have since Lake Mac entered a firsts team, should be a close game, looking fwd to seeing who comes out on top (of the bottom teams)

Pretty sure they havent since stepping up, will prob be a good contest with the spoon looking like the prize for the loser!

Have been impressed with Cardiff/City as always but it looks like the coast connection KV and definately Terr are around the mark at this early stage of the season.

Unfotunately Warners have dropped off quite a bit,but im hopeful of the Dockers team (of which there are numerous new faces) gelling together and having a crack!

Singleton are a mile in front of the comp in div 1!!! and prob should of challenged Dockers/Warners? whoever loses this week to see where they are at! Thought they did pretty good last year and a bit stiff to miss out.

Looks like they could almost take on a combined Nellie/Wyong at the moment and get the job done(its early days tho!)
