Based on the performance of the midfield against the Dogs, it may not be all bad


Opportunity knocks for others now laying a claim for a spot in the midfield rotation.

Wonder if Banfield would be worth a try at some point?....that explosive pace could be useful coming out of the center square.

Interesting. I'd be guessing at McGrath and Clark in, Hawksley and Selwood out in that case. It definitely gives a chance for Rockliff, Polks and Proud to battle for who gets to stay when Black comes back rather than one getting dumped immediately.

Certainly feel a lot more comfortable with Rischitelli/Brennan there to lead the midfield this year. It's great we can take care of Blacky properly and not have to rush him back for fear of being smashed in the middle without him.

I think it could be. One could argue we have played some of our best footy this year with Black missing, which is fantastic. Our midfield came up against the bulldogs and we didn't miss Black at all. With Mr Perfect getting on in age, its probably good that we can take it easy with him, and hopefully have him fit and firing at the right time of year. Our midfield has finally stepped up and taken the load off Power and Black, and we have been waiting for this to happen. But they are still young and after a long season, bodies get tired, so it will be great to have the likes of Black as fresh legs.

I reckon with Blacky missing the games against Bullies and Dees, he can get fit for the very important Freo and Saints games coming up. Rischa has done an exceptional job over the past month and it beggars belief we were trying to offload him to Carlton and now I'm wrapped he put a spanner in that deal.

For this season at least, it is far more bearable to watch Hendo kicking it out of bounds on the full in Carlton colours than Riska gunning it in their midfield.

Black will want to be part of the team for at least the next 2-3 years, don't worry about that. If anyone knows the man, they'll know how committed to the team he is and if there is a chance to help for a tilt at the Premiership, he'll be there. What happens after that, who knows.

It would certainly surprise me. Ultra durable, missed what, only round 1 last year? And played brilliantly for most of the year.

Or do you think all players should retire at the first sign of injury?

He has missed 8 games since he started playing for the lions. It would be extremely surprising if this is 'the last straw'
