So what i don't understand with the Papley situation is what Sam Edmund said regarding him not caring about where in Melbourne he goes too. With our ITK's confirming Papley --> Carlton does that mean this was false?

Yeah there are mix messages happening...

Another small forward, Tom Papley, reportedly “doesn’t really care” which clubs he plays at in 2020, so long as he’s able to secure a trade back to Victoria.

This conflicts with reports earlier in the week that Papley had nominated Carlton has preferred trade destination earlier in the week, though that still seems the most like scenario for him.

So the mystery player has got something to do with the number 7. Here are all the players that wear the number 7.

Number 7 interstate players
Gws- Deledio (retired)
Port- Ebert
Crows- Galluci
Brisbane- Berry
West Coast- Masten (leaving)
Freo- No ******* way
Sydney- Cunningham
Suns- Brodie

Number 7 Victorian sides
Carlton- obvs Kennedy
Saints- Dunstan
Dees- Viney
Hawks- McEvoy
North- Ziebell
*- Merrett
Bulldogs- Hunter
Geelong- Taylor
Richmond- Butler
Pies- Treloar
Why does no one here refer to Essendon by name and use an * instead?

The Papley thing sounds very like the Tim Kelly thing. Desperate to get to home city for legit off field reasons, but still wanting to earn a good wedge and play for a preferred team. A bit have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too in my opinion, but this is where the AFL is at right now. At least, for once, it seems it might go our way.

Bit harsh saying people aren’t living in reality.....Take a chill pill

Bit harsh telling someone to take a chill pill.
Maybe take a chill pill?
Oh shit sorry - I’m going to now also take a chill pill...

Maybe 7 is the number of chill pills the mystery player took before a game one time. Can’t be sure - just a hunch...

I reckon it’s Viney. We don’t have the picks/player to get either Oliver or Fyfe over the line (and Oliver is a flog and a selfish player IMO). Viney is a quick and tough inside mid - exactly what we need.
Is Viney Elite though? Have we had a crack at him previously? I suspect Brad Crouch, and I suspect the #7 reference is to the length of the contract on offer to him (would make him 32 at the end of it, so he fits the age demographic).

Jack Viney. #7 Melbourne Demons. Age, : 25yr 5mth. Born, : April 13, 1994. Height, : 178cm. Weight, : 87kg. Position, : Midfield. Contracted Till, : 2020 (RFA).
Hmmmm. Hurriedly rings Ladbrokes to cancel bets on Harry C. and Lachie H.
I must admit he didn’t look like a happy camper at Melb this year, so maybe.

My best guess is SOS wouldn’t have ruled out any of Gaff, Wines or Viney.

There’s a clear logic to all three leaving their current clubs and I’m guessing those clubs are waiting to see the best offer for them (from all bidders) and likewise SOS is waiting to see where we can “win”.

We have been connected to Gaff and Wines before so only Viney would be a surprise - but with the Dees looking to replace him as Captain and his father out after a poor year there could be both personal and professional reasons he wants out.

I’m not sure which of these three I would want more - each have their strengths and both Wines and Viney bring leadership and will probably ply longer.

The quote was something like 'I don't want to mention the name at the risk of #7 years bad luck'.
Now it could also be taken at face value, eg. '7 years bad luck' is a standard saying - or the cryptic meaning could be that the contract on offer is 7 years - so if it goes pear shaped (eg. the player has bad luck with injury), then the contract is '7 years bad luck'. That's how I take it anyway.

Gaff is an outside mid though, so I suspect that rules him out as we desperately need an inside mid to help out Crippa.

I did think it was very odd that Brodie extended at GC given the very limited opportunities he’s been given. Would have thought a number of clubs including us would have sounded him out.
Not what we need and he loves the Gold Coast and importantly so does his girlfriend who is either attending Uni or working up there I believe.

Yeah and way better compo than we got for Waite, who was one of our KPP at the time, not just a fringe 22.

Waite plays first game for North at 32, Ellis plays first game for Suns at 26, may have something to do with it too.
