And as we said at the time, well some of us did, he could play to 35..True but we got NOTHING for him - how fair is that?

Could have drafted him had we traded Gibbs a year earlier.Agreed. It's Jarrod Berry btw.
Full disclosure: I have no idea either.
Well as far as being an inside mid it could be argued he’s elite at his best.Is Viney Elite though? Have we had a crack at him previously? I suspect Brad Crouch, and I suspect the #7 reference is to the length of the contract on offer to him (would make him 32 at the end of it, so he fits the age demographic).
Viney is a limited player, but he's a very strong contested ball winner, which is something we are in the market for to protect Cripps.
They shouldn't be. Two first round picks for an injury riddled forward who is still living off potential. But hey, its * so who gives a shit.* supporters aren't taking Daniher wanting to leave, very well.
Viney was mentioned a few weeks ago.
7 years ago (had to look) it was 2012 ollie wines
Viney, Wines, Berrys what are we chasing here.....low hanging fruit?Agreed. It's Jarrod Berry btw.
As long as he kicks the winner v Richmond round 1 I’m not fussed.Viney is Brock Mcclean MKII

Yeah and way better compo than we got for Waite, who was one of our KPP at the time, not just a fringe 22.
True but we got NOTHING for him - how fair is that?
I'm not saying we should have got absolutely nothing for him but even if we did get something what was he worth? A pick in the 60s, 70s, 80s?
As much as people want to say Ellis is a fringe player, in his 8 years at Richmond he averaged 22 games per year and is a dual premiership player.
Waite had loads of potential but was never a consistent performer for us due to injury or his suspensions due to his lack of discipline.
The only way we would have got any value at all from Waite at the end was for him to stay , not through FA compensation.
Given Waite was an unrestricted free agent, the Blues were unable to keep him by matching North's offer. And on Friday afternoon, the AFL announced that the Blues would be left empty handed under the free agency compensation model.
"Based on the player's age (31) and the contract offer, the AFL advised the Carlton FC there would be no compensation for the loss of player Waite," the AFL said in a written statement.
Hmm...As long as he kicks the winner v Richmond round 1 I’m not fussed.
Edmund way off with that comment i'd suggest. If what Edmund intimated was true about him not caring where he goes, then why wouldn`t he have nominated norf......?
Wines all the way.My best guess is SOS wouldn’t have ruled out any of Gaff, Wines or Viney.
There’s a clear logic to all three leaving their current clubs and I’m guessing those clubs are waiting to see the best offer for them (from all bidders) and likewise SOS is waiting to see where we can “win”.
We have been connected to Gaff and Wines before so only Viney would be a surprise - but with the Dees looking to replace him as Captain and his father out after a poor year there could be both personal and professional reasons he wants out.
I’m not sure which of these three I would want more - each have their strengths and both Wines and Viney bring leadership and will probably ply longer.

Viney is a FA next year.
His dad recently left Melbourne.
Also wears no. 7.
Well, it is Melbourne.Gaff I think as well, cannot believe it would be Clayton Oliver...not in a million years would MElbourne be that stupid
I was using this point to demonstrate that Benny Gale is whining about nothing given that Tigers got 2nd round compo. That was 5 years ago.
Wish ppl would just let it go.
No free agency compo for Blues as Jarrad Waite hops to Kangaroos
Carlton left empty-handed after free-agent forward joins North Melbournewww.afl.com.au
Beggars can't be choosers right nowI thought JJ was put out by Essendon's treatment of him in the year he spent there

Wish mods would stick to modding.
