With respect, zeg - SPS was outstanding in the guts a few times this year in his first season after having a pre-season. Was moved back due to necessity late. Think the club still see him in and around the middle long-term and may be back in there again for 2020 with Doc and Marchy back on the park.

Don't get me wrong, SPS had a fantastic year. Loved watching him. But he was not an inside mid when in the guts. He floats outside or down back.

He isn't the answer for our inside mid needs.

Don't think Dow is either. Seems more comfortable as a mid/forward, but way too early to tell.

Of course it is.

We finished bottom 3 this year. We all expect to improve, but that doesn't mean our first pick is going to be in the teens next year. We're every chance of having a couple of injuries to key players relegate us to the bottom 6 once again. And even if it was a pick around 10-12, you know full well how loose the industry is with terms like "elite" and "gun".
My point exactly, not truly elite.

Name me 1 "elite" mid that has gone for a future first round pick in recent history? Look waht the Cats are getting for Kelly!!

The fact the club apparently didn't go through with it also points to 1 first round pick not being enough.

And didn't you say we shouldn't talk?

💯 percent Matty.

His best game for the year (IMO) was that win against the Doggies.

Crippa fed him all day and it was glorious 😍

7 clearances on top of those stats as well.

Let me guess. Richmond have offered a half decent small contract and he wants to stay. Butler's manager doing a piss poor job of trying to get Richmond to raise that offer.

Doesn't sound like either us or the Saints are desperate for his services. I rate him, I'd take him, but obviously the lack of discussion is happening for a reason.

I posted above but think my original post was misread. I rate SPS highly. Very highly. My comment was solely that he isn't the answer for our need for another INSIDE mid.

On the outside and floating down back he has been terrific this year. As evidenced in that Bulldogs game. He operated on the outside, and extremely well.

Yes it's the trade period.

Play the ball & not the man and let's all get along nicely.

I agree with this that SPS isn't an inside mid, pretty sure he mostly plays as a sweeper at the back of stoppages. I'm not convinced we need another inside mid though

Happy to not talk if you like - figured we'd both moved on and could be civil :p

We're probably somewhat in agreeance here anyway. Yeah, the cost of a "truly elite" mid (ie. Neale, Treloar, Fyfe types) would have been too high, but just because that's where you draw the "elite" line, that doesn't mean to rumour-bearer or source does too. Could easily be a Brayshaw, Viney, Prestia, Parker, Duncan, Shiels, Hunter, Hopper etc. Some of those players are unrealistic, of course, so don't pay too much mind to them as specific targets, just examples of players who could be secured for a top 10 pick, and who could be deemed "elite" depending on who is doing the deeming.

Hell, Jack Steven, Dan Hannebery, Shaun Higgins, Tom Rockliff, Steve Motlop - they were all referenced as "guns" and "stars" and "elite" across various channels, and the trades/contracts/compensation for them all landed well short of high first round territory.

probably lack of currency after doing Papley and Martin trades. It would be bad faith to renege on their deals just because something shinier came along.
Might have jeopardized the TP & JM deals while also not being guaranteed to be possible to get mystery player in, leaving us with diddly squat.

Bird in the hand, yada yada...

The things I would do to see SPS have 31 effective disposals week in, week out....

Unspeakable things......

I think you might be struggling with what the definition of rumour actually is.

a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth.

Sounds like a rumour to me, and discussing it here seems like the right place to do it.

It's not worth discussing when it's from sources like FB pages that are known to be full of shit...like the one saying Murphy might be traded to Brisbane.

It caused some angst on here and a bunch of people criticising the club and even Murphy unnecessarily, people started discussing trade hypotheticals including Murphy...just a waste of time.

Just my opinion I just can't see the point of saying something and not naming the player it's trade wk name get thrown up all the time

As I have said previously, could you appreciate that some information is sensitive?

Have other ITK posters such as TheRedPill who generally has an impeccable record also mention an unnamed player?

I understand why many ITK posters are gun shy and I know in future, I will share any information I get in private
