But does he do any of those roles.. sufficiently and constantly well?
Really good in defence, great marking option in f50 and around the ground, goal kicking has improved quiet a bit and ruck is ok. In few years time when ruck in particular is sorted (TDK steps up) Levi won’t be as valuable but until then we keep him imo.

Doesn't Gaff's new contract let him jump ship as an unrestricted free agent?
If so, then Gaff for a boat-load of cash, but free, picks-wise, which would be worth some of the loot I guess.

Casboult's trade value is likely to never be higher than it is now

I'm not saying we trade him - he'll be valuable for us next season - but maybe it is at least worth testing market value. Someone might be willing to pay a premium for him right now

Name one other player on our list who is competent as;

A Key Fwd
A key Def
A 2nd Ruck

We would be mad to let him go now, imo

not sure it matters in my opinion 2 years or 4 sydney have the upper hand and we need to give up pick 9 - only question is whether SOS can negotiate something coming back
True, not having a go, but has any required player with 4 years left on their contract ever been traded before?

Butler not the done deal that is being reported. Both parties are waiting to see what happens with our other trades. I personally like this as I don't think Butler will be best 22 if we land the other 3 targets as well as expect natural improvement from Cunningham and Gibbons.
Happy with this, anyone who can't get a game ahead of Castagna should be very low on our priority list.

So who do we think this mystery mid could be? Seems we've got our 3 targets pretty well locked in, pending deals.

This other player is the only ? leading into Trade Period. My thoughts/interpretation:

Has to be someone of note.
Is a predominant midfielder.
Unlikely to be older (28+) or top young (21 or younger).
Hasn't been overly talked about or linked to us directly.
Has to he at least one reason for their wanting to come to us.

Guesses, people?
I reckon the whole Ollie Wines thing is yet to play out and I reckon SOS is knee deep in it.

Bluemour Melting Pot appears to have a distinct lack of melts lately. Are we expecting some volcanic action on that front? Popcorn ready to go in microwave
We are well prepared with let downs from previous unsuccessful hype on * and then Cogs
But, not this time...
We are gonna get our 4 and maybe even a 5th surprise (Gaff?) :D

Why trade for Gaff when we can pick him as a FA next year ?

Exactly what someone replied to the tweet with.

I’d like to know what his definition of a long way away is? The trade period opens October 7th and closes the 16th. If Papley comes to Carlton it will happen within the next 15 days. Basically Pickering has NFI.

Unfortunately Casboult's trade value is zero...the 'trigger clause' only means he has an automatic offer in front of him from the club for 2020...if the club doesn't give more though, ie 2 - 3 years, he will walk away from that 'automatic offer' and be an UFA...

Thus the importance of keeping him.
