Don't think it exists anymore.

Scroll down to Pre-seaon supplemantal period where we picked up Gibbons & Cottrell as Rookies before the National Draft.

Bloody AFL - they've changed the rules again!
Another way to stuff up CFC :p
... note: I'm just going with the flow

Unfortunately Casboult's trade value is zero...the 'trigger clause' only means he has an automatic offer in front of him from the club for 2020...if the club doesn't give more though, ie 2 - 3 years, he will walk away from that 'automatic offer' and be an UFA...
I'm no lawyer, but this is logical. Hope we keep Levi.

andy a living embodiment of the "not this s**t again" gif.........
if only Andy and BJ could have said 'Papperly' from the time Browne first said it that way.
If they coulda said it with a straight face, oh my...the ratings!!

So the question is, do we have to trade for him? Or is there some other currently available avenue that we can threaten to ultisie if GCS get too stubborn.

Why would we need a priority list? Surely there’s not much to work out regarding Eddie Betts. I want him back personally. Think he would be a wonderful influence and mentor around the team. And he may be 33, but the bloke can still seriously football!

Keep in mind I have a vested interest. If Tassie got a team and it meant GC were the sacrificial lamb, I'd hardly be complaining

Ideally we would get a team completely of our own though.
Tassie deserve a team thats for sure. Bloody AFL

Ok good. Then given that the only team between us and Martin is the Demons, why don’t we utilise threat of putting a price on his head to turn D’s off him and pick him up in preseason draft for zero? Does preseason draft still exist to enable us to do that?

I think you’re forgetting GC have pick 1

We threatened a while back to redraft Thornton if he went that way

I’d rather Butler over Betts.

Happy to sacrifice Eddie’s leadership & 35 goals for the 20 goals & good forward pressure of Butler.
One should be aware of the Eddie factor on membership, team culture & morale and on field mentoring. Basically he’s an asset,
a brilliant instinctive footballer one of the best in the game. Accurate kick no more needs to be said really.

I get why you would want to forget, PTSD (or PPSDTSD?) and all that, but Cam O'Shea was picked in the PSD in 2017

Okay, i forgot him, its not like we had a very good run with the PSD anyway, when we used it..

2006 - Dylan McLaren
2007 - Cain Ackland
2007 - Cameron Cloke
2008 - Darren Pfeiffer
2009 - Chris Johnson
2015 - Jason Tutt

“Journos” finally asking the right questions about Papley’s supposed 2023 contract situation. 🤪

Swans will trade him. They are just playing hard ball which we would do ourselves if we were in the same predicament

That's the thing. Shit stain Browne trying to make a story out of nothing because of a number of players officially nominating us. Any person with a resemblance of an IQ would understand that competent list managers would have a clear list structure they are trying to achieve and it would have priorities.
So yes Papley and Martin are priorities, it does not mean that Betts won't happen, rather that if you had to choose between Papley and Betts you prioritise Papley, its just common sense.
Browne is just an over sensationalist who gets no mail from our club and he makes shit up like Caroline Wilson since Trigg left.

I’m aware of those benefits & have considered them, but still prefer Butler. I am confident our natural progression on field will carry our clubs morale & membership forward.

In any case it sounds like we may be able to get both of them & that’s an even better result.

A potential Tas team would be more comparable to Geelong IMO. There is 250k ppl there and the interest in footy is high, proximity to Melb also helps. Tas has a population of around 500k and I'd argue the interest in footy would be the same as the Geelong area. Flight is 50 mins to Launnie and 1hr to Hobart so proximity to Melb also is good, albeit by plane. I'd rather fly to Hobart than drive or train to Geelong. That's just me though.
It's quite a complicated issue down here. You're right about the interest in footy, definitely a football state but that means everyone down here already has a team they've supported all their life. North and Hawthorn have done some great work here already and won a lot of fans but St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood have rich histories and strong followings here. I'm a fourth generation Carlton fan, I've supported the club for over 30 years and live in Launceston. I'm not sure a club in Hobart would interest me that much.

The population is more spread out than any other state. Hobart is the only capital city in Australia that has less than 50% of the state's population. Hobart has also always had a bit of a struggle making AFL games work. It would take a lot of effort to get Blundstone arena up to scratch as well as fixing the parking and transport issues. UTAS stadium has always done a much better job but how do you justify a city of 80,000 people getting a team before a 180,000 people capital city.

Then there's the issue of sponsorship. Not many businesses in Tassie big enough to sponsor an AFL team. Only one I can think of is federal group and they've been far more interested in saving money than spending it since the gambling restrictions came in in 2012. The feeling here is that the government would get publicly lynched if they sponsored another AFL team while leaving health and emergency services and the crime rate in such a poor state.

Don't believe everything you read on Twitter, it would be very hard to make an AFL team here succeed.

We'll get a trade done. They got rid of the idiots running the Suns.
Been thinking about Martin a lot. Just pay what he’s worth. Can’t be that hard ffs. He’s worth somewhere between pick 15 and 25. No one with any common sense disputes that. It’s not hard to come up with combinations to solve that. GC may want our future first because hey have academy players. It’s effectively worth 20 percent more to them than us. Suspect they’d give back a second. We will make top 8 next year. There’s a heap of early academy players next year. Our future first will end up being something like 13. Be a pessimist and see us finishing 12th. That’s pick 7 which probably becomes 9 or 10 after academy’s. If we gave GC our future first and got Martin + this year’s 20 back?

Come on. Let’s all be sensible. That would be a great trade. We could use pick 20 in other trades (Eg Papley trade- 8 and 20 for Papley and 25).

Never been done before, and presumably for good reason; these mechanisms have been put in place to alleviate restraint of trade; pick him up when he chooses to leave and it might be deemed unhealthy to the well being of AFL's trading system. I very much doubt the AFL will permit GCS to redraft him in those circumstances.
