I think you’re forgetting GC have pick 1

We threatened a while back to redraft Thornton if he went that way
Thats okay, if gcoast want to play that game and pick him up in the psd, Martin can down tools for the next 3 years on $600 k per year!! Good luck with that idea GC!!

That's the thing. s**t stain Browne trying to make a story out of nothing because of a number of players officially nominating us. Any person with a resemblance of an IQ would understand that competent list managers would have a clear list structure they are trying to achieve and it would have priorities.
So yes Papley and Martin are priorities, it does not mean that Betts won't happen, rather that if you had to choose between Papley and Betts you prioritise Papley, its just common sense.
Browne is just an over sensationalist who gets no mail from our club and he makes s**t up like Caroline Wilson since Trigg left.

Thy might read this and call you things.

you might be missing the point about cas...in any one position I’m sure there are much better players but cas provides good coverage across multiple positions/roles. We should also not underestimate that he hardly ever gets injured. Name me a player (as per itchy’s earlier post) who is better and gettable?

AG, my comment wasn’t directed at Casboult....I was only referencing previous posts.
My comment was made about us trading in general.

It's quite a complicated issue down here. You're right about the interest in footy, definitely a football state but that means everyone down here already has a team they've supported all their life. North and Hawthorn have done some great work here already and won a lot of fans but St Kilda, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood have rich histories and strong followings here. I'm a fourth generation Carlton fan, I've supported the club for over 30 years and live in Launceston. I'm not sure a club in Hobart would interest me that much.

The population is more spread out than any other state. Hobart is the only capital city in Australia that has less than 50% of the state's population. Hobart has also always had a bit of a struggle making AFL games work. It would take a lot of effort to get Blundstone arena up to scratch as well as fixing the parking and transport issues. UTAS stadium has always done a much better job but how do you justify a city of 80,000 people getting a team before a 180,000 people capital city.

Then there's the issue of sponsorship. Not many businesses in Tassie big enough to sponsor an AFL team. Only one I can think of is federal group and they've been far more interested in saving money than spending it since the gambling restrictions came in in 2012. The feeling here is that the government would get publicly lynched if they sponsored another AFL team while leaving health and emergency services and the crime rate in such a poor state.

Don't believe everything you read on Twitter, it would be very hard to make an AFL team here succeed.
How much are The tas gov and the the hcc giving the hawks and the roos every year at the moment?

Assuming that PSD avenue exists, don't really need to enforce anything; the threat of doing so should be enough to motivate a settlement on both sides, I doubt they, or the AFL, would reject a 2nd round pick and invite risk to the greater good. Besides, given his history, a 2nd rounder is fair compensation

Sponsorship does not have to come from a Tasmanian business. In fact I can't think of any club that is sponsored by a local business.

Been thinking about Martin a lot. Just pay what he’s worth. Can’t be that hard ffs. He’s worth somewhere between pick 15 and 25. No one with any common sense disputes that. It’s not hard to come up with combinations to solve that. GC may want our future first because hey have academy players. It’s effectively worth 20 percent more to them than us. Suspect they’d give back a second. We will make top 8 next year. There’s a heap of early academy players next year. Our future first will end up being something like 13. Be a pessimist and see us finishing 12th. That’s pick 7 which probably becomes 9 or 10 after academy’s. If we gave GC our future first and got Martin + this year’s 20 back?

Come on. Let’s all be sensible. That would be a great trade. We could use pick 20 in other trades (Eg Papley trade- 8 and 20 for Papley and 25).

A future 1st would be a big price to pay. We'd need that priority 1st pick of round 2 coming back. I don't see it as very workable.

Our future 2nd should be enough, and then we can maybe add a pick upgrade around one of our 3rd rounders this year.

U

Unfortunately Casboult's trade value is zero...the 'trigger clause' only means he has an automatic offer in front of him from the club for 2020...if the club doesn't give more though, ie 2 - 3 years, he will walk away from that 'automatic offer' and be an UFA...
If this is indeed the case, it bloody complicates things!

Can anyone confirm this for sure?

Don’t they get academy players free now?

His kicking in general is pretty poor.
he is one of those guys that looks okay playing for richmond. if he went elsewhere would probably struggle, then get dropped, and invariably be delisted after a couple of years.

As for Butler. I have a feeling in my waters he will end up at GC.

Butler will be looked at if 1 of the 3 fall through. Not priority at this stage, things can change.

There may be another big fish up sos' sleeve that we all don't know about. Id love to drop the name but Id get shot at. He is an interstate player
Where Arr0w at?
