Players read these forums - which are public - and I doubt they’d like seeing themselves bagged by absolute strangers anymore than the rest of us.

They are AFL players. However, more importantly they are people. Some comments in general seem to forget that. Regardless of the team, what they do or don't do etc. They are human and humans can be broken.

New Order > Joy Division (though I love both)
Bigfooty will be like the Damned - Clash if all our targets aren't secured by Wednesday.
If it all follows the AFL script then a smiling Eddie will get his photo taken at Princes Park tomorrow.

Then everything else will stall until 10 minutes to go on Wednesday to create maximum tension and prime trade TV.

And then SOS will leap into action and snare Papley, Martin and Viney (our mystery man???) with seconds remaining.

It will be legendary and we will pass this story on to generation after generation.

If SOS pulls that off we are surging up the ladder next year. Finals a legit show.

I can make peace with Levi being traded, but only if we give him to a weak team. If he is traded into a good team, he could come back to hurt us. Should he be traded though, I would only expect it to be either GCS or Sydney who gets him.

It blows my mind that some people actually think we should be foregoing our pursuit of Papley/Martin (two players of genuine need) in favour of participating in a weak draft.

Our list could not be more stacked with young talent, it’s just a bizarre mindset.

Thanks whoever you believe in SOS is in charge of the list. He gets it.

I don’t like the notion of trading away next years First on top of this years first for the targets we are looking at, even if we say got Hawks future first back. I hate the thought of going through another season like this one, especially if we start the season poorly yet again. I’m just not confident enough in our progress yet to be trading away a future first. It’s a much easier proposition for teams like Geelong and West Coast.

We will make the finals next year. Two years of trading out picks, then start using first rounders on young talent again.

There was a post on the Sydney papley thread suggesting he has moved all his stuff out. Also seems to be a poster there who knows a little but it sending their into out via PM and not to everyone. Does say his reasons for wanting to move are genuine

Sam McClure eluded to him having real reasons for wanting to leave rather than being homesick didn’t go not details though.

Also saying Adelaide coach announced tomorrow.
Not a bad PR move from Adelaide, trade Eddie in the morning, club favourite, possibility to cause rumblings, then a few hours later announce new coach, Eddie traded gets washed out in South Australian news
Making the best out of a poor situation

Zak Jones played a lot of football as a HBF. 70% is bad disp eff there

I guess that is fair, of the 11 players on our list that got a better disposal efficiency than Zak Jones, 10 were defenders (and the lowest of them was Simpson with 74.9%) and the other was Cripps.

On face value, given where we sit in our development as a club, getting Papley, Martin and Betts to the club and nothing else would not be a good trade/draft period for us. It's a one dimensional approach and only gives us two mid to long term players. I'd rather bust than pay 'overs' and, perhaps, trade pick 9 for a double dip. Do the next year's first for martin and their second rounder trade and cut our losses on Papley. Maybe we could trade for Bonar as well.
I really struggle to understand this line of thinking. We already have such a heavily skewed list demographic and you want to keep adding to it? Maybe we can just be in a state of continual rebuild for eternity, keep getting high draft picks and then losing those players for more picks after they get sick of losing.

There comes a time where we have to back in the youth we have already recruited and start to compliment them with good experienced players to try and create a winning culture. We have hit the draft bloody hard, we’ve selected 9 first round picks since 2015, we’ve also brought in Setterfield and Marchbank.

Getting good players at the young end of their prime after the drafting drive we have been on makes sense to me, especially when they are in areas of list weakness.

Having said that, I’m not keen on getting shafted in the Papley trade.

Was the mystery player Tom Phillips from Collingwood. Reports are he’s going to leave and sign for Geelong due to salary pressures at the pies.

****ing everyone is going to the Cats. Surely we have some money to attract attention. He’d be amazing on a wing.

Jones is a nice player, but he is a bit of a butcher. Can get away with it as an inside player, as an outsider....:grimacing:... not so much

Thatnposter on the Sydney board alluded to issue with the coach...

I hope we make finals, I’ve forgotten the feeling of being able to watch us play finals. I agree with your timeline of trading out picks, I’d just rather wait until next year to know the true value of that pick. I guess I’m not a gambler.

Pick 9 for Papley and pick 43 (or whatever it is) plus 2020 second rounder for Martin should be enough. It feels like we are getting punished for the draft goodies that the AFL handed GC as all our draft picks, with the exception of our first rounders, are almost worthless to GC.
