Before I comment, can you lay out your plan as to what we should do differently than the current plan of Papley, Martin and Betts?

As in be specific.
I suspect you won't get an intelligible response.

I'm not sure how any intelligent person cannot see our primary weakness is small forwards and quick half forwards with skill and tackling pressure m. OR how Papley is comfortably valued at pick 9 in most drafts, let alone an absolute crap shoot. Draft picks are criminally over valued. What do people expect from pick 9? What are the chances we get a player as good as papley? Absolute absurdity.

Martin looked to project to be absolutely elite early. Then he has become victim of being at a club that makes the old Fitzroy look like a 1990s Chicago Bulls. A clear head, and the return of his driveand we will see why he was so highly regarded.

Betts is just such a no brainer. I cannot fathom why anyone is against it. You get a year of a potentially elite (or near enough with natural regression) of a small forward who is one of the all time greats. He has immeasurably benefit in memberships and the 'feel good story. He will almost certainly take over a coaching role the year after.

Please, can everyone just calm their ****ing farm.

Pretty much my thoughts nicely summed up.

There was a post on the Sydney papley thread suggesting he has moved all his stuff out. Also seems to be a poster there who knows a little but it sending their into out via PM and not to everyone. Does say his reasons for wanting to move are genuine
That's what i like to hear..

I looked back on his post history. In the last few weeks he has claimed to have met up with Horse and had a beer with a previous Sydney captain

it makes sense though there is more to the story, Edmund alluded to family issues he wasn’t going to go into details about when he officially requested a trade, also his fathers responses to Tom Browne tweet which was something you rarely see, so definitely some tension there

How can you criminally overvalue something you depend upon to build your list? All of our talent were draft picks.

What I think Carlton has criminally undervalued, is adding top end U18 talent to our list every year, perhaps this excludes a top four finish with an aim for a premiership however that's definitely not Carlton in 2019. I think if we were to be left with no picks inside the top 40 in this years draft it would be risky and premature. But hey, I'm certainly no expert I just worry a little that we're jumping the gun.

Our list is in great shape. Considerably better with Papley and Martin.

Papley in particular is EXACTLY who we need.

If we pull that off, there’s still gaps/areas for improvement (there always is), but it’s coming together beautifully!

Tbh I doubt he’d even stand out in suburban football.

This isn’t through lack of trying, he just doesn’t have the ability.

Good on him for giving it his best shot though, but AFL is a cut throat business.

Point I’m making Is that if a player isn’t quite at the AFL level, that doesn’t give posters an “open door” to demonise / joke about them in trade scenarios etc.

Players read these forums - which are public - and I doubt they’d like seeing themselves bagged by absolute strangers anymore than the rest of us.

Understand, but remember we have been double and triple dipping in the top end of the draft pool for years. We have a glut of young talent. Sure, it’ll still amount to nothing if enough of Dow, SPS, Curnow, LOB, Walsh, Setterfield, Fisher don’t kick on, but that’s the same as any team that isn‘t “there” yet.

We have obvious gaps and those positions can be filled by trade this year, at palatable prices, with players in the right age bracket. Within two years we will be back to taking our first pick and topping up on talent, but great lists are always made from multiple sources, not just the draft.

I say it’s definitely time to “buy” what we don’t have to augment what we do (or will) as the list matures.

^ it's the risk/reward of draftees that gets overvalued compared to established players.

There are not many players in the trade mix as better options than the ones we're looking at (not counting those nominating specific clubs)
Although if Hill became gettable that could be interesting.
There seems to be a few who could be good additions on top of those. Bonar/Knight/etc but going for them too early might jeopardize our chances with the main targets. So they'll likely be left to last minute.
