Lack of Plan B is very disappointing and somewhat concerning. As soon as D*do pulle
Incorrect. The Suns wanted pick 9 and we would get Martin and 15. Sounds reasonable to me
Suns also wanted a future second. Craig Cameron himself said so on Trade Radio. That's way overs.

I'm really gutted that we couldn't land Papley. Exactly the player we needed. The same for Martin.

9 for Martin and 15 does sound like a reasonable deal but SOS must be confident he can get him for free. Also, I don't think SOS would've let us miss 2 quality players if he didn't think we could get someone in the draft who can impact immediately.

Now, we can hit the draft with our pick 9 and try to pick up a small forward/mid who can have an instant impact. Jayden Stephenson did the same last year as with Walsh this year.

No plan B. Not even a plan A-

Every other club involved in the trade period out performed us.

The mental gymnastics by some trying to turn this into a positive is insane.
Those of us who can laugh at the melts are winners. Thanks sos. Makes my day some of these comments.

Plan b - let's trade for the sake of trading

So the Suns wanted pick 9 and a future second for Jack Martin and pick 15... No ******* way he is worth that.

Y'all need to chill out, he is not worth that. If he comes in the PSD good, if not at least we didn't over pay.

We would have had to make the GF next year to reach the value we had Martin at.

What was Plan B going to be? Bring in some players, that struggle to get games at the club they were with?

What the hell are they paid to do? If their strategy for this entire trade period was 'wait and see what happens with other trades' then they deserve the FAIL grade.

How do we get him in the national draft? Do we/any team have the ability to pick him at any point? I thought the only option was PSD

If he does go to the ND... where do we take him? Surely other clubs would be looking to pick him as well.. no?

IF we get Martin for free, i'm still relatively happy with our trade period/off season. Would have saved ourselves a future 2nd & 3rd rounder.

Papley obviously hugely disappointing, but what can you do if they refuse to trade him at all if they don't get Daniher? It's really annoying that our Papley trade was linked to Daniher's.
I’m disappointed but not surprised at the Papley outcome. It appeared clear that Syd tied the Paps outcome to the JD situation, and predictable that they would be unlikely to shaft Essendon. As for Martin, what an irresponsible play by GCS.

It is amusing in a scary kind of way.

Pretty devastated about not getting Papley. He really loomed as the perfect fit for our team.

If it is as simple as getting Martin to put a massive price on his head and nominating for the pre-season draft, then that actually shapes up as a win that we didn't get a deal done.

I'm happy we have our first three picks in tact for 2020 which will make it easier to get deals done next year, and I'm almost pleased that I can now pay close attention to all the draft prospects again given we have a first round pick to use. I wonder if Caleb Serong would last to pick 9.

This trade period was a joke, we did not fill any of our positional needs, we had good players wanting to come to us and we couldn’t get it done! Can’t see Papley nominating us in 12 months time, personally a player of his calibre for pick 9 was worth it, overs maybe but considering he still has 4 years remaining on his contract, it was what we had to pay and it should hve been done.
That’s what we offered to pay, Sydney said no deal. He is contracted it takes Sydney to agree, like Essendon it was under no circumstances.

I’m going to step away from this thread way out of control now

In all seriousness is Jack Martin really going to tear the house down and drive us to another flag?

I don't blame SOS for not getting this deal done.

He has proven absolutely NOTHING. He may have shown potential but he has not proven enough to warrant a first rounder.

Papley, Wines, Coniglio and Shiel (Last year) has been a systematic failure with our recruiting department

So nor getting Papley because he wasnt available is SOS fault somehow? Wake up

Yep, absolutely no way to spin this as a positive. We had tunnel vision and couldn't get it done.

As soon as Sydney started to fu** us around we should hve been throwing everything at Wines. Also should have nabbed Bonar at the price they got for them and should have been involved with other trades. Useless trade period.
Wines wasn't up for trade.

Either way its still a cockup we had stated intentions to trade our 1st rd pick had a warchest to spend and it hasn't happened Papley or no Papley .

We should have given it to the Crows for Josh Jenkins at the last minute so we could honour that commitment to trade the pick.

Edit: Can't believe some have taken that seriously.

Others have said that - I was fairly sure I heard Barrett say it was our 9 for Martin and 15...if so, we should have taken it...but agree, if it was our future 2nd as well, was too high a price

Straight from the GC List Manager's mouth - the deal involved our future second going back to them too. Terrible deal for us.
