Papley for pick 9 was perfect. Papley and a 2nd was not ideal but made us better. Papley with a 2nd back was arrogant. This deal should’ve got done.

I really hope the Daniher trade was the sticker and we weren’t ****ing about.

He would’ve kicked 40 goals next year (and the next 6-7) and let Eddie off the leash as a second small forward.

Disappointing we didn’t get this done, and anyone saying he wasn’t worth 9 to us is wrong.

Getting a top 10 talent in is always great but the time was now. Please save some face and get Martin in the PSD.

I’m all for being level-headed but the fact is we had two players in positions of dire need wanting to play for us. Not getting at least one of them done is poor, pure and simple.

Always thought 9 for Papley was too much but we should have secured Martin. Isn’t he pretty much the reason we got Betts back? We can’t always spin it that it was the other guy’s fault.

What a ridiculous statement! SOS can have all the best intensions in the world but if others don’t come to the party he cannot do anything about it. Pay overs and it reduces our options in the future. It is not as if we have the worst list in the competition. Yes, our performance this year wasn’t great but we have lots of promising players that will be a year older and a year better. Very few have reached their peak yet.

He went into the trade period with absolute tunnel vision and zero plan B. He failed to procure talent in the areas we are desperate to fill. That's a failure.

#1 How were we meant to get Paps if he WASNT AVAILABLE? Sydney would only trade him if they got Daniher. Be mad at Dodo not SOS. Are the sooks suggesting SOS should have made * trade Daniher somehow? FFS

#2 Why pay overs for Martin? 9 for Martin and 15 isnt a good deal considering we can still get him for free (Possibly) AND still have pick 9 in the draft.

People need to chill out, all this talk about SOS has to go is laughable. Unless you think SOS somehow was able to make * and Sydney do the Daniher trade so we could get Paps, then you need your head read.

I admire your positivity but you are naive as hell. If you have players nominating, you do everything you can to get them to the club.
SOS did not try hard enough.

Papley was always a big risk, which is why we should have had other plays ready. 9 for 15 & and martin effectively means we gave up the equivalent of pick 44 for Martin. Or a mid 3rd rounder. You do that every day of the week. Not only do we now have no players, but future players will think twice about nominating us. Martin will probably be so pissed off now he'll go to another club, if GC don't re-draft him first. You better pray we get Martin in a Draft otherwise this is one of the all time biggest Draft Fails in the club's history.

Martin is still a chance I guess but to miss out on Papley is a massive loss.

Man, I hope whoever we draft at #9 ends up being an absolute gun. It would make this so much funnier.

Carlton cannot secure its targets; not entirely the fault of the club, but it indicates a change of thinking is required. If Brad Hill (a better player than Martin and Papley) can reach his preferred destination, then Carlton should be able to achieve the same outcomes.

The AFL Suns are a disgrace of an organisation and the anti Carlton bias at the AFL is immense. The same AFL that gave Geelong a 1st Rd pick for Steve Motlop free agency to on trade to the Suns, the Ablett deal over the line. With all the concessions they’ve received for their own ineptitude, a gentlemen’s agreement should have been struck to see a deal done. Bugger Jack Martin now; let him stay at the Suns, and they can have an unhappy player at their ramshackle club. Craig Cameron is a knob, I can tell you all.

its clear Carlton needs to be offering north of $1mil a season to land an elite talent for next year now.

Also suggest splitting Pick 9 for two top 20 picks, draft a midfielder and a small forward. Trade next years 1st for a 1st this year; 3 talents through the door. Build the depth of the club; the Achilles heal during the Ratten era. I just hope Sam Docherty can return; you have to be realistic but if he could get close to his best; then that’s a top new recruit in effect.

Finally, Silvagni’s cycle at the club has run its course. He hasn’t performed badly, but it’s clear to enter a new phase, change is needed; just like McKay and Bolton.
