Before getting too caught up in the clubs holding players to their contracts, think about how we felt when SOS didn’t budge on Gibbs year 1.
If Essendon or Sydney didn’t take a hardline public stance, supporters would feel seriously let down. Don’t misconstrue this stance with the same clubs refusing to deal.
The difference is 1) Gibbs was worth it 2) Adelaide approached US re:Gibbs but wouldn’t put 2 firsts on the table 3) Gibbs wasn’t requesting a trade out or desperate to get out. He said if you can get the deal then do it if not I’m happy to see out my contract. Totally different scenario to someone wanting to leave due to family or other scenarios.
