The difference is 1) Gibbs was worth it 2) Adelaide approached US re:Gibbs but wouldn’t put 2 firsts on the table 3) Gibbs wasn’t requesting a trade out or desperate to get out. He said if you can get the deal then do it if not I’m happy to see out my contract. Totally different scenario to someone wanting to leave due to family or other scenarios.

On top of that an ex player tells all that your lazy and mismanaged your own injury.

It’s a harsh environment for young men. If he was my kid I would be in favour of him going to Sydney.

Blues lock in AFL coaching panel for 2020

The Carlton Football Club has finalised its coaching structure for the 2020 AFL season with three new faces arriving at Ikon Park.

Aside from the fact I have no insight, for all I know he is an excellent coach.

If not, he has the goat photo.
 
I think our midfield/stoppage work was fine, post-bye rounds.
Hard to have much in the way of stoppage strategy when it’s nothing but skinny kids in the guts. Once we had some seasoned operators in there, suddenly we were competitive again.
And those skinny kids won’t be skinny forever!

I think you are missing the point. I’m not saying he situations are the same - but clubs need to be seen publicly as pushing back strongly even if they are working to trade the very same players.
 
I'm firmly in the Keep Casboult camp. I'd consider trading him if we were likely to get good value, but I just don't see other clubs offering enough to make it worth our while. He's clearly best 25-26 and would be expected to play the majority of games next year. He's just finished 5th in the B&F (!) and won the coaches award. A couple of our wins this year may not have happened without him (Freo the obvious example). It seems pretty clear we'll be a better team next year with him than without him.

And yes, this is completely different to my opinion at the start of the year -- credit to Levi for changing my mind.

It's really not that strange at all.

You see Hawthorn understand this principle and they know where they are and what will serve them best in the medium to longer terms.
Hawthorn had no issues moving on Hodge, Mitchell, Birchall, Lewis and were happy to cut Roughead in order to allow senior development to youngsters.
This is really important but the timing has to be right forcing greater responsibilities to the younger guys.

We've now dropped in the young leaders who have had a year to get into the swing of the role and it makes for a good time to deputise other young players, should they be suitable, of course and if Walsh was our best 21 and under trainer, then give him a chair in the leadership group also. Don't worry about age.

The Hawthorn comparison isn't really accurate.

Casboult is at the peak of his powers now. Hodge and Roughead and Lewis etc had all dropped off considerably and had 1 max 2 years left.

'Rock the Cas' could play many more years and has finally hit his straps. He reminds me somewhat of Leigh Brown back in the day. Never rated him his whole career up until his final few years at the pies. Something clicked and he was a super important player for them that could play multiple positions.

The reality, is that we would not receive his worth in a trade anyway.

Levi stays and he will figure highly again in our B and F in 2020. All credit to the young man. He's come a long way.
 
I’m also in the keep Levi camp, however I don’t think we should offer him an additional year yet.

So if a club comes to Levi with 2-3 years and Levi thinks it’s what’s best for him and his family, I’d like to see Carlton do everything in their power to get him to that club.

If I recall correctly, a deal with Adelaide couldn't be reached. That's completely different to SOS not budging on Gibbs.
