***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

So Narkle averages less than 6 games a year, less than 15 touches a game, less than 1 goal a game and (apparently) shows questionable professionalism. And of course played alright against us in the deadest of dead rubbers a couple of years ago.

I mean... what’s not to like?

Too much of a Darcy Lang 2.0 vibe.

My thoughts exactly, fail to see what everyone's fascination is. Not up to it, list clogger. Why do people think Geelong are letting him go

my thing is, from next year we should be positioning ourselves to be the equal of or better than Geelong (among other teams currently in the eight). how are we improving more rapidly than any team we’re chasing if we’re targeting players who aren’t clear best 22 in those teams? It’s such a flawed strategy. I can get spinning the wheel when we’re 17th... throw a heap of chips in the table and which ones hit - we should beyond that now. We need to be targeted.

re: Narkle. Apart from McCarthy (which was more about him getting his body right) who else have Geelong let go in the last 15 years that has gone onto become a better player? They just don't let good ones go.

taking a closer look at this - the players that have gone on to play more (or soon will) at other clubs than geelong. how well they've played in that time is open to interpretation.

brent moloney
laidler
varcoe - much improved at collingwood
josh caddy
mumford
nathan vardy - another of a few geelong rucks to move elsewhere. after mumford probably the best performed, though not set the world on fire. others like west or simpson, not so much luck.
christensen will be remembered as a brisbane player should he play long enough.
mitch brown - continues to get games on the fringe
josh walker - ditto. again, could be described as 'still getting games' rather than being a better player.

Looks like Eddie has already helped get us Zac Williams this year.

Not surprised Rankine's atop the list. Could see that a mile away with their interaction when we played the Suns in Darwin. Rankine looked like he was visiting Santa Claus and Eddie was in awe of his favorite kid.

Is Rankine contracted through to 2022?

They don't have a first this year I think (traded to North?). Contract of $650k + over 4 years probably gets them a first back. Their choice is salary cap relief and a first rounder v Viney.

I'm not sure that draft pick helps them in their current push for a decent finals run, unless they need it to secure another important player via trade.

I'm not 100% sure what they need other than a key forward with a bit more presence that Weideman. That and some composure when their season is on the line.

Very interested to see what they do in the off season.

the smaller lists mean that clubs will cut a bit deeper than they might have liked so there may be some value - if you've also cut deep and found the space to take on a project. i note with interest someone like ahern from north, who they kept on the list while recovering from a knee injury. got well amongst it on his return to footy, but without having seen him play the last couple of years may have gone backwards.

We absolutely need to consolidate our playing list...but it will count for Jack sh1t if we cannot recruit some decent assistants for Teague
I could almost argue that the assistants are more important, but that's just a personal opinion

Any rumours on any coaching changes??

It was posted somewhere about Voss...I'd be going hell for leather for him now...reckon he's learned alot from Hinkley. He's also a childhood blue
My dreamteam would include Lyon(coaching director, childhood Blue), Voss (senior assistant) and either Bartel or Solomon (senior assistants

Am I asking too much??? Rhetorical qn!!

A member of the board side of the club attended St Joseph's... and is of an age with Barker... who also attended St Joseph's.

We've long complained about the "old boys network" ensuring positions for past players at the club. And now we've got this happening.

st Joseph’s North Melbourne ?
