***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

It seems we've noted the improvement that the Saints made from trading and are going hard at it I like it.

We don't seem to be messing around. Williams, Wines, Graham, Saad etc

I wonder who we are willing to trade to get some of these deals done.

taking a closer look at this - the players that have gone on to play more (or soon will) at other clubs than geelong. how well they've played in that time is open to interpretation.

brent moloney
laidler
varcoe - much improved at collingwood
josh caddy
mumford
nathan vardy - another of a few geelong rucks to move elsewhere. after mumford probably the best performed, though not set the world on fire. others like west or simpson, not so much luck.
christensen will be remembered as a brisbane player should he play long enough.
mitch brown - continues to get games on the fringe
josh walker - ditto. again, could be described as 'still getting games' rather than being a better player.
How dare you forget Mick Mansfield...

Carlton has had a form of contact with Ollie Wines and are keen on luring the Port Adelaide midfielder to Ikon Park.

- Damian Barrett

Sorry Damo, but "a form of contact"?

Like Wines, rumoured to have been real sweet on us last year, cost would be more than Viney and Graham, but there's no doubting he is in some very good form at the moment.

If Port are open to it, I'm good too. Pick 7 by itself, maybe swapping some later picks. If they want to push for two firsts they can piss right off and we'll take Viney as a free agent or Graham for a second.

Understand what your saying on Mcgovern but a player on a 5 yr multi million $ contract has no excuse for not having his head right and being unfit .
The pandering to Mcgovern since arriving at Carlton has been pathetic .
Whilst players with lesser talent bleed blue and put there bodies on the line time after time are on the outer (Simpson and Jack) this bloke gets a free pass .
Can also throw Murphy in that category signed to another 1 yr contract , really starting to turn me off the CFC .
And I understand what your saying. If Jack was available late in the year and he wasn't selected to replace Gov, that would have been ridiculous.

Gov was just simply way out of form, particularly after going off injured against North. It happens. Look at GWS's captain that we nearly had on our list. Some players probably didn't cope as well as others with the abnormality of the hub situation. Teague and the MC would know the difference between being out of form and not trying.

I hope Jack stays and fights hard for a spot (he will fight hard, that is a given), but at their respective best, Gov offers more to our forward set-up. As you say, he needs to pull his finger out to stay ahead. SOS would have known we were getting an enigmatic player when he traded for Gov - one who will sometimes frustrate, but when he fires, one who could win us games. We haven't seen the latter, as he has either been injured, out of form, or the team hasn't been much good.

I also believe it would have been tough for tall forwards up there with the constant greasy conditions. Harry really was one of very few talls across the whole league who had a good second half of the year.

Well you know you could’ve claimed some level of importance within CFC and I would have believed you 😂

Saad will be the difference imo. I know some people don’t rate him but our defence can’t run the ball out. It’s usually a kick down the line and hope for a mark in pressure situations and we seem to be stuck in our half. Adding saad in there will mean we have one more outlet. Makes a huge difference to our game style and structures. The dream is have both Williams and saad back there but obviously we have promised willams a midfield role. Saad is huge

Current Willo has good run and carry ability but I agree we could use more of it.

A member of the board side of the club attended St Joseph's... and is of an age with Barker... who also attended St Joseph's.

We've long complained about the "old boys network" ensuring positions for past players at the club. And now we've got this happening.
Barker went to school with Liddle.
The grinding of teeth over Barkers employment predates Liddle joining the club so it presents a gaping hole in this argument.

Its time. Plenty of draft capital spent and developing nicely.
