Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

What’s ya poison ?

Viney ... FA
Wines ... pick 7

Trade pick 7 to Geelong for picks 15 and 16 or Brisbane for picks 18 and 19.

Trade picks 15/16 or 18/19 for Saad and Graham.

Reckon I’m into splitting pick 7 and bringing in Saad and Graham along with Viney as a FA.

To have an off season of :
Williams
Viney
Saad
Graham
For the outlay of pick 7 would be mind blowing !!

Arent we overstating the stoppages a little bit. That sure occurs when we have those quqrters where we dont score, but we were also 3rd in quarters won IIRC - which suggests when we are on top , that our stoppage work is working for us.
We just need to become consistent and that might very well occur with the addition of another 2 mature mids to the rotations

No. Doesn't explain the run on of goals.

I'd be hopeful Saad could get done for a 2nd.

His trade value is far closer to pick 25 than 7.

Pick 25 plus some back end swaps should be around the mark.

Wonder if getting one of Wines or Viney means we're not in a position to go after Saad already having Williams coming in? If we still had the cap space for Saad and we miss him why not get Graham too.

We reportedly had enough cap space last year for all of Coniglio, Papley and Martin.

Things change of course but I highly doubt Williams and Saad would send us anywhere near the cap ceiling.

Saad won't be on a huge contract, and we'll be able to clear plenty of Williams' salary in year one with the cap space we have banked, as we did this year with Martin.

People really don't seem to understand just how well we're set up at the moment. I reckon we can very easily accommodate 3-4 big signings, and I don't consider Saad or Graham big. Williams yes.

FA starts October 30
Trade period starts November 4 and ends on November 12 - so yeah 2 weeks worth

It really is a joke that it takes that long. 90% of trades
end up being a Mexican standoff that lasts until the last two days.
Reduce the time and the same number of movement will happen.
Then we aren’t made to listen to the Soap for Tradies ad a thousand times a day.

Wines will cost 2x 1st with a later pick coming back. Pick 7 wont get it done.
Wines isn't worth 2 firsts. FA aged player should be free. Why would you sign a contract to leave before hand. One first at most.

Need to be an AA quality mid to get 2 firsts - Beams, Shiel( has gone down hill since joining the bombers), Treloar ( hasn't been but was younger and would have expected him to get there after 4 years at the giants)

Ollie Wines still has 2 years to go on his contract. Would be expensive to get him from Port.

Viney for free would be awesome but if we can come to a fair agreement with Port, we'd choose Ollie over Viney?

Thats fine, Port will ask for two firsts.

Clubhouse leader.

Re-sign Williamson and Cripps, just like how we've re-signed Docherty.

Chase Merrett, Saad, a chunk of GWS' midfield, Bontempelli. Hell, we could check in with Joe Atley, who is a DFA and has similar attributes.

Beyond defensive application, I'd barely call him a top 10 midfielder for us, as he's not even an upgrade on Ed.

We've got Philp; we're choc full of inside midfield options already, so unless he's coming in at well under $500k, I don't see the point. He's not displacing our starting midfield options without costing us an opportunity to add elite pace and skill to the outside mix.
Defensive application is what we are missing

If we trade pick 7 for Brisbane’s picks id be happy to fling * pick 19 for Saad.
You just know Dodoro’s gunna have a hard on for a first rounder ...

I agree, he would want the satisfaction of trading him for a 1st.

Just thinking, if we got any of these midfielders that have been mentioned on this forum, what's going to happen to our second tier middies, Dow, LOB, Stocker, Fish, Kennedy, & even Ed? Will they be used as trade bait?

It would probably be the end of Kennedy, which makes sense given he's out of contract.

The others are still developing so don't think this would have huge implications for them in the long term.

Ed still has a place, but we're hugely reliant on him still at the moment, and it would be nice to see that gradually decrease over the next few years as he creeps closer to retirement.

Puts added pressure on them to knock every door down to get into the team, plus, having them part of the midfield rotation should be a given.

No. Wines isn't that far ahead of Viney that you could justify the trade currency required to obtain him, even if the price was fair.

Yes it will. Turn pick 7 into two firsts and trade our future first with one of them (preferably the later one) and offer that plus get something back like a late second or third.
I like that. Say we get #16 and #17 from Geelong. #16 and 2021 1st could get us Wines and #17 would get us Saad, which I'd happily pay.

If we got Viney and/or Wines and Graham, I would be up to the idea of trading LOB and Kennedy, maybe even Dow.
