***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

It's really Wines vs Saad and Graham as we can add Williams and Viney either way.

Wines is clearly the better player of the 3 and is clearly in our best half dozen players all day long for mine. Saad is a need at HB if Williams is to play midfield, and Graham could be useful.

Do you go A grade to fill a need or B and C grade to fill a couple of needs?

Wines will cost a lot more than the combined value of Saad and Graham.

Saad should be an early second. Graham a late second/early third.

A trade for Wines will involve 2 x first round selections with something coming back.

Not disagreeing he wouldn’t be a good acquisition.
Contract length/$’s = playing and marketing ability.
We all know Cripps needs a hand. Who would you rather have, Williams or Crouch in the trench with him?

Williams.

Well given I'm 6 4 and 100kgs I'm probably not the usual Bigfooty poster.

Well mate I'm only 6'2 but weigh a nice 110 - come at me with your best ya lil mongrel I'll snap ya!! :p

As for Viney - chest puffer with some mongrel - he is a Melbum family player - doubt they'd be stoopid enough to let him go.

We’ve got Williams. ✅
Next I’d be trying to get saad to pick us.
Then I’d be asking the question of both tarranto and Kelly/ really making sure there’s no chance they would entertain the idea of moving this year? If they are, then do the deal with the one that wishes to come. If there not interested, then I’d Move to laird, If he says no then I’d be looking at your Viney/graham/wines senario and ask a question of lonie as well.

Probably right. I think Dodoro will try to get something more than an early second for Saad though.

Depends whether we want A graders or not.

Ward has been injured when they were challenging. Who are the workhorses in that group, the true inside beasts?

Whitfield didn't cut it in the midfield so got moved to HB to get true value out of him. Coniglio and Kelly aren't true distributors and aren't overly physical players.

GWS got too many ball users and not enough ball winners. Essendon have been going the same route.

I don't think a midfield will fix everything but what we do know is our midfield puts pressure on our backline which is otherwise a pretty solid unit and can't capitalise on our forward line which is potentially elite.
Hopper, and depending on which Green maybe him too.

Following Zac Williams I think we target one more player but don’t think it will be Wines who would cost $800kish.

I think we will go for one more player in the 600k or cheaper range like Saad/Viney.

Yes we can spend 105% of the salary cap but we still need to remember we have our young kids coming through who will start demanding money soon.

we got our number 1 target, I think improvement now will come through natural progression

I'm the same. Sucks to be the sober one in here, but we've landed Williams early. He was the one. Great work team.

If we add ONE more quality player i will be impressed. I think we can do that btw. But ONE more will be great and all we need really.

It seems to me like either graham or Saad to add to Williams. That would be a job well done.

Sheezus....I'll have to back off from confronting such a behemoth in the future. :)

Good on you though for your contributions along with several other, in-your-face posters. We need more, not less of your 'types'
The sooner we leave the land of pretence the better.

I think he will too, but it helps that he's out of contract. His hand will be forced.

Unfortunately for him, that's the way the game works.

Too one paced.

The following would look better:

Midfield rotation of Cripps, Wines Cuningham, Walsh, Viney, Williams, Setterfield.

Far more balance to that midfield mix.

Fortunately, midfield rotations run deeper than 6 so you can add Cuningham to it without removing Wines. Cuningham is not taking pressure off Cripps.

Take Cunningham out.
Better to put in Philp or Honey (or anyone else really)

It does...what was Sydney’s financial gain paying Franklin $1ml (if that figure is correct) over his contract period..I doubt there investment over the contract period is in the black.
You really think it is as black and white as this?

The circumstances of COLA allowed them to bring in Buddy and maintain relevance in a premiership window. He helped the get to a GF, kept them in the media for sponsors and kept the turnstiles ticking over in Sydney and elsewhere. He is marquee.

You seem very concerned about money etc.

Imagine if we manage to land Williams, Saad, Wines,Graham and Narkle and I think it's
definitely doable
If Austin gets it done he would of out done SOS in one trade period

We'd have to knock down the SOS Statue, and put up an Austin one instead?

*though by the sounds of it, Cain Liddle may have already done the first part.

Hopper, and depending on which Green maybe him too.

Hopper yes, the other Green will be. I rate him but he hasn't been that player for them to bring the best out of those cream mids ... not yet.

Setterfield and Viney would though. Same goes for Walsh and Williams to an extent.

Just personal opinion but that line up looks better from a balance perspective.

Fair enough.

With Philp, Dow, Stocker and Kemp in development, you'd hope that at least one of them could step up and fill the void that Wines would be brought in for.
