***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Dodoro doesn't particularly worry me in this case. He has no hand here with Saad out of contract.

If Saad does want out they'll need to come to the table and be reasonable or they simply risk losing the player for nothing.

We'll enter negotiations in good faith of course, but we cannot and will not be hijacked by his rubbish. At the first sight of stalling we should simply do what St Kilda did last year with Fremantle, call their bluff and continue on our merry way with any other targets.

St Kilda got sh*t done last trade period, but most impressive was their work in dealing with Bell and Fremantle with regards to the Hill trade. Fremantle demanded a first round pick, so St Kilda simply traded down.

Saad situation will be interesting to observe.

Saad’s manager could threaten to take Saad to PSD (see J Martin) and take North’s over abundance of cash if Dodo makes idiotic demands.

i..e. Do reasonable deal with Blues or else

Happy to trade Kennedy but his value would be low.

Dow, LOB are worth a lot more to us than they are to any other club. They're also contracted, so there's no need to move them on. Happy to let them develop for another year, be it at AFL or (hopefully) VFL level. They're both 20.
His value would be it's highest since we brought him in

Setterfield and Viney would though. Same goes for Walsh and Williams to an extent.

Just personal opinion but that line up looks better from a balance perspective.

Viney to an extent. These guys don't do the strength work that Cripps and Wines do. They'll put their heads down in the trenches but they are not beasts in that regard. We have had Setters and Walsh already. They're not taking Crippa's place at the stoppages without us losing something. Williams is not that guy either.

I'm the same. Sucks to be the sober one in here, but we've landed Williams early. He was the one. Great work team.

If we add ONE more quality player i will be impressed. I think we can do that btw. But ONE more will be great and all we need really.

It seems to me like either graham or Saad to add to Williams. That would be a job well done.
While also most likely keeping our first pick!

Vs Saad and Graham? Hell yes. The guy is elite. Slipped last year, but back again this year. He's the real Cripps support. A beast who does more than just go inside. I'd go 2 firsts for him.

So would I.
No problems whatsoever giving up 2 first rounders for him.

Injured since ??

His problem now is he's more a mid than a forward and guys who can play better away from the middle (Close, Atkins, Fogarty, Simpson) have come in and done well. We also got Stewart back and Henderson has been excellent so we've moved Blicavs up to play on a wing. Steven's fitness has improved. So he's behind Ablett, Selwood, Dangerfield, Duncan, Steven, Guthrie, Blicavs, Menegola and Parfitt for midfield time which means he needs to play outside midfield and we prefer Close, Atkins and Fogarty as depth because they're more versatile. So he hasn't done much wrong but finds himself well outside the 22.

Key to strengthening a position when negotiating is to create as many alternatives as possible. In this instance, threatening to go to the draft is probably a crappy fallback because he'll likely have to take off interstate; he may not want that, been there done that etc. Dodo's clever and he'll know that. He'll seek to create other options in Vic. He'll likely find them. So its probably going to be a case of giving up slightly more than you'd like.

Rate him and think he would be a very good acquisition for us.

Massive no thanks to Viney. We don't need a small, one dimensional plodder to add to our midfield.

Jack Graham makes way more sense. At least he is a man mountain. Also comes from a winning culture.

I'll spew if we pay up for Viney. Yuck.
Agreed. Not sold on Jack V although, you can never have enough Jacks. If he cheap and wants to come, the seconds will be better off one way or another.

Just thinking, if we got any of these midfielders that have been mentioned on this forum, (Williams, Wines, Viney, Graham etc) what's going to happen to our second tier middies, Dow, LOB, Stocker, Fish, Kennedy, & even Ed & Murph? Will they be used as trade bait?
That's really up to them. We aren't a nursery. Work hard and break into the side. Or don't.

We can't not get an A Grader in because our second their might not get a go.

Need some ruthlessness in team selection and list management.
