***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Removing the original club from most of the valuation process sees other clubs enter in and push contract values higher. Free agents typically get paid more due to a more open marketplace. This is something that you see in any sport that has any such mechanism.

AFL is no exception here, it's just a matter of how many clubs are interested. So far it's at least three, and I honestly don't know why we'd bother with him. I've never rated him as a player.

Why not? What is the downside of Zac Williams?

Your statement alludes that there are better options in the FA, when there inst any All-Australian or Superstars in the 2020 FA class ? Are you suggesting that we avoid luring good players because there are better prospect next year?

Edit: You referring to Jack Viney, the same principle applies to him.

This season alone he told Mark Robinson to put in the paper that he was going to sign up on a long term deal and that he wasn't going anywhere, specifically for the purpose to ease Blues fans anxiety.

He's not going anywhere, any talk of him doing so - at least in the near future ~2 yrs or so - should be dismissed.

The rumour around him leaving is not related to his desire to play for Carlton. It could be that his partner needs to be closer to family given her health issues?

Tell me which one of our coaches has pedigree from a former premiership outfit?
Tell me which one of our coaches was a former premiership player?
Tell me which one of our coaches was a former all australian?
Then you look at Port, who have a three-time Premiership Captain, Brownlow medallist leading their midfield.... and now look back at ours
Cameron Bruce was a line coach at hawthorn during the premiership era fwiw.

It's bad form for a club to make a public statement that's reasonably open to being interpreted as though 2 of its players are only on the list because of their father. It's humiliating for all concerned actually; including you as a supposed Blues supporter.

So nothing about that has happened this year then? check.

Still worried about cap pressure in here, geez that’s okay, let’s just get Graham, Cachia, Boekhorst and O’Shea out on a wing back on small contracts.

We have money. We can spend it how we like as long as we meet the cap requirements. We know this. That is not for us to worry about. We can worry about Cripps next year. Let’s entice him to stay first by finally strengthening this team and more so his comrades in the midfield. If we can afford a top tier mid alongside a Viney/Graham, then do it.

I don't get people not wanting to spend money on getting the right type of player across. Williams is worth what it takes for us to get him. He addresses a need.

Of course, we could spend that money which we have to spend by overpaying some ordinary players who aren't worth the extra money just because we'd rather be in the same position we were in 2013/14.

Of course he has said that publicly, I'm not saying he hasn't, but if he doesn't see success coming at Carlton he will go elsewhere ,be that home or at another club here. I don't think there's a huge go home factor with him but he wants a real chance at being a premiership player.
I’m fully aware if you pay peanuts yr get ......s. I’ve followed the club since the early 70’s.
he would have a better chance achieving a premiership with us than Adelaide in the short to mid term.
if a player (any sport) has no intention of moving they’re likely to say zip publicly...it’s when they broadcast that message the underlying message is they want a move.
I’m not saying we don’t make Williams an offer..I’m saying he’s not worth $14+k +++each week of the year for 4+ years..

I never understand why people get so concerned with players reported salaries:
a. most of the amounts would be incorrect either way
b. we have people in these jobs to get each year under the salary cap
c. we have the same people who plan years in advance for players they know are coming out of contract and players they may want
d. worrying about it doesnt change how much the club will pay to any player.

Butler would have kicked hardly any goals the wAy we delivered ball inside 50 this year

He got many of his goals in the way of give and go from outside 50 metre arc so the delivery into our 50 is a mute point. Plus if he is good enough which he is then he would have found the drop of the ball. I think we can spin it how we like but we def messed up big time not getting him.

I know it was stated Saad will stay or go Saints or us, but weren't Dees and North heavily interested as well

Reckon if you think that was the sole reason SOS moved on last year I've a bridge up here in Sydney you might like to buy.

When will it be time to move on from last year?

You lose any argument when you mention his name. His name has nothing to do with getting any contract.

You are correct, the name should not come into it regarding contracts. And the name did not get Ben another year.
I still stand by my views as a player and I rate Jack highly. And in my view, the club should do its best to keep him.

The name mention was more to do with things being handled maturely, with respect, regardless of any possible temporary spat. I'm sure the club has. This kid has grown up with so much passion & love for this club. He is very relatable to us Blues supporters. But of course, in this ruthless arena, where everything is scrutinised to the nth degree, there is no place to hide.
