It’s a reasonable question. My view is the list is better than most give credit. Sure it’s not apparent based on results. Lots of issues with the club impacting performance: Culture manifests via standards & accountability (fat players, returning saga players not dropped whilst not performing etc), injury management, player development, executing game plan etc. The list has 7 All Australians on it but few playing to capability for reasons mentioned. It’s complex but all cumulative and linked together but I can’t explain all in here.

These are all driving underperformance. I think the theory is address standards and performance culture, land game plan execution, drive higher accountability, fix injuries and address gaps in player development leads to much stronger performance in 2021+.

Absolutely let’s go with that.

With any luck the new “old plonker” on your Board sells them this message for the next 27 years, there’s still plenty of Kool-Aid for everyone.

Our offer is $50k more a year than the bombers plus car..

Thanks for sharing.

If he comes, are we any chance of retaining pick 7?

Any possibility of finding an avenue to upgrading our second to get the job done?

I actually find it hilarious that we're offering him a car Wouldn't we just offer him an extra $60k-$80k in the first year of contract?

It's probably something along the lines of we can give him the car at a discount because of sponsorship deal, or something similar. For example, giving him a car that's 50k for 30k.

Pick 7 + Future 1st to Bombers > Saad + Pick 6 + Future 3rd to Blues

The only way those twaddlers get their hands on Pick 7 is with Pick 6 coming back the other way.

A more commonsense approach would be:

Pick 27 + Future 2nd to Bombers > Saad to Blues.

This is going to get lost in the return of B70...

But if we do what you’re proposing then we can’t use our future first round which means no Merrett/Oliver/Kelly/Taranto etc

the sponser will probably give Carlton the car. It still goes into the salary cap, but not paying for it .

Thanks for the update b70!
Not sure a player leaves for that small of a difference, unless the reported issues with ESS are a bigger factor than the $.
On second thought, it is $250K over the course of the contract, so not chump change.

I think he will stay but that’s my opinion but club is having a decent crack..

Tom Browne was right! Essendon leaking?

Seems very odd to offer a car.
Just baffling in this era.
As has been mentioned, it would count as part of his contract and towards the TPP - so why not just increase the $$$ and let him choose his own car?!?
It may be a masterstroke and the point of difference in negotiations, but from afar it seems very old school and very strange.

If we get Saad, I think that probably means no to Witherden. It's not that they can't coexist in our backline - far from it, they'd give us two very different exit plans - but that I think we'll be reluctant to change too many components of our backline after the club made such a point of how "settled" the defensive unit are.

Saad plugs in for Simmo, and I reckon that's it. Would prefer Witherden in for either SPS or Willo to release them up the ground, but I doubt we'll do it.

As if in the * network they couldn’t find a car..

He’s staying at Essendon. That’s my intel today gang.

Its all pretty much irrelevant. I am very, very, very confident he will be signing with Essendon.
Signing a contract with Essendon is the best way to wreck a foo
struggling to differentiate your description of * with your descriptions of carlton.............
Difference is Carlton faced reality that we were rubbish, not a powerhouse and we rebuilt to the point we have a chance of becoming a good side. Essendon maybe are just starting to face reality which is too late for Saad
