Seems very odd to offer a car.
Just baffling in this era.
As has been mentioned, it would count as part of his contract and towards the TPP - so why not just increase the $$$ and let him choose his own car?!?
It may be a masterstroke and the point of difference in negotiations, but from afar it seems very old school and very strange.
If we are offering it at cost price, may be adding $20-$30k to the total value of the package with less tax and not paying full retail.

It’s a reasonable question. My view is the list is better than most give credit. Sure it’s not apparent based on results. Lots of issues with the club impacting performance: Culture manifests via standards & accountability (fat players, returning saga players not dropped whilst not performing etc), injury management, player development, executing game plan etc. The list has 7 All Australians on it but few playing to capability for reasons mentioned. It’s complex but all cumulative and linked together but I can’t explain all in here.

These are all driving underperformance. I think the theory is address standards and performance culture, land game plan execution, drive higher accountability, fix injuries and address gaps in player development leads to much stronger performance in 2021+.

I suggest Saad is buying into that belief... Rightly or wrongly.

But things can and do change so who knows what happens next!
Carlton supporters know from experience, how long it takes to reach top 4 from where essendon is- 7 years if you do it well-expect a 30 plus year bomber premiership drought.

Our offer is $50k more a year than the bombers plus car..

It's like you think we are playing supercoach.
So long as you're not looking at the draft pool, that's exactly what you're doing.

Would love to know which kid will be available at our first or second (or 15/16*) that is not only more talented than Saad, but will also provide similar if not more in 2021.

I think the time is coming where we must look to capitalise on Cripps’ prime. Doc, Martin, Weiters, Williams in their primes too. Harry only consistency away. Kids with now 4/5 years under their belt. Surely the time is now.
Nathan O'Driscoll stands out as a defensive option in that top 10.

And FWIW, Touhy effectively netted us Marchbank who was rated late 1st at the time.
I understand the purpose of the trade, but the trade valuation of Tuohy was a late 3rd.

Folks, I have made contact with BigBreakfast and got a response. I want to afford the guy a little bit of privacy for the moment, but also alleviate the concerns of the community.

Cheers all

That's great news and I'm sure I speak for all when saying we appreciate the update and the positive news. If nothing else, the great spirit shown on this board to a fellow human in possible trouble should hopefully provide BigBreakfast with insight that there is always people that care.

struggling to differentiate your description of * with your descriptions of carlton.............
Also a bit suspicious that a top side might come knocking for Saad but then again, he would have picked the Saints, probably will not return interstate & bulldogs pies don't need him- that leaves us and tigers at a pinch. We are looking good arent we?

Interesting you mention winning cultural aspects as the main issue. That is Carlton's challenge. Many on here think that will fall into place but it takes young, hard, charismatic personnel. I am not sure the Blues have those types in the footy department.

fu** all really. If he leaves for that, he wasn't invested in staying at all.

not necessarily. In the ideal world, he was invested in *, but CFC is a better fit insofar as his current interests are concerned; and has successfully communicated that to him. I'd hope that's the case.

Saad is a lock. If he wanted to stay he would of signed already they are trying to maximise value from us. There’s no way you go through all this publicly if you’re not staying. Essendon would be desperate to keep him. The Saads know how to extract maximum value.

Is that your opinion.

I hate hate hate hate HATE this argument.

They're AFL players. Shannon Hurn is about the best kick in the comp, and he goes for these difficult kicks and still averages an 87% effective disposal rate according to footywire. He doesn't have nearly the clangers of the other two.

People are sucked in by the excessive glorification in the media of Dustin Martin's manner/style rather than his output. He is a thumping good player, but he's not GAblett junior, nor is he Chris Judd, nor is he even James ******* Hird. He plays in a team designed to exhaust his opposition which maximises his effectiveness, and good on him, but he's not as good a kick as is made out. He's allowed borderline fendoffs that are effectively open fisted punches to the clavicle and neck, which has resulted in throat injuries before, which make him untackleable and, thus, he kicks under almost no pressure most of the time; he's a great long kick, and does so with reasonable accuracy.

To say he stuffs up a kick because 'he goes for the harder options' ignores the fact that he's still stuffed it up. It's sugarcoating an error. And if all you do is go for difficult kicks when you're untackleable and in open space, you're going to nail a few.

fu** me running. He's got em coming and going; when he's having a good day, it's all 'Dusty's the best kick in the comp!' but when he's having a sh*t day and going at 30% 'he goes for the harder option'. It's good to be the king, isn't it?
Hurn plays as a general defender though, so he has a lot more regulation kicks, and long kicks down the line.

The last 24hours.

He’s staying.

He’s chosen us.

I think he’s staying.

We’re having a decent crack.

It’s a done deal.

He wants to be a blue.

Ill put my reputation on it.

He’s definitely staying.

Like I said bluemours theme song rings true.

Yup...b70 says he thinks staying...c09 put a line through Saad...43 says he's already made his decision to join us.
All 3 have always had good info. We will have to wait and see!
