If he was being offered the role of Head Coach, I’m with you. Certainly need some experience in that role. But Hodge as backline coach would be amazing. All you need to do is watch some off the ball footage of him to see him marshalling and structuring the backline, or footage of him in the huddle giving some very frank, open and honest feedback.
Sure he’s untried in an official coaching capacity, but his playing pedigree and footy IQ cannot be questioned.
This is true.

Thought Hodge is happily living in Brisbane now. Would be hard to entice him to move back to Victoria.
Agree, would be a top get, imagine Clarko & Hodgey back together again.

I reckon it wouldn’t be hard at all to get him back to Melbourne, he’s stayed way longer than he was probably originally thinking.

I've briefly spoken to Kouta about that. He's offered his services (for free ) a couple times. It's hurt him that he was knocked back (but still genuinely loves the Club)

Nah. Kouta looking for publicity for whatever his new business idea is.

I feel like Eddie could retire and take on the new indigenous liaison role. Would love to have him at the club still whenever he does call time on his footy

The thing is, Eddie is nearly 35 and our second highest goalkicker.

I’m a big fan of what Lyon has done as a coach and I think he would be great at driving standards and implementing a good defence, but it’s clear why, he was unable to win a premiership, his teams were not good scorers.

In 2009, with the Saints, they were clearly the best team and he had his best points tally of his career, they were the 4th best offence.

2010, when they were a good side, the 8th best offence.

2015, finished top, the 10th best offence.

They arent the numbers of a premiership winning coach, compare that to Clarkson led teams, Ross would of won a flag, of not for the bounce of the ball and a Scarlett toe poke, maybe, but Clarkson could have had another using the same logic.

Theres a reason, one will go down as the best coach of all time and the other won’t have won a premiership.

2 grand finals ahead in red time final quarter, one was crueled by the worst bounce you've ever seen
The other had a goal given that hit the post.

One driving factor for me, that moves the needle in his direction is, he hasn't won a flag and is desperate for one.
I'd take either, dont get me wrong.

But in the end, you have to ask yourself, who hungers a flag with us out of the 2?
forget the past

Second highest - who else has had the opportunity ?

Honey ? Owies ? Durdin ?

Betts has played almost all year as a stay at home permanent forward and is about 40th on the coleman medal - fine if you are busting your nut around the ground.

7 kicks 1 goal in his last three games - total - for three games.

Don't make me put up his stats - they are amongst the worst in the AFL.

On the rumours of Liddle trying to protect Brad Lloyd....

We know that Lloyd and Liddle are mates back from football playing days.

Thinking back to the famed Stephen Silvagni interview on Footy Classified, do we think the "there's lots of conflicts in football" comment directed to Matthew Lloyd, could actually be in reference to Brad getting gifted the football boss job at Carlton without the usual credentials?

I always thought it was a peculiar comment to make at the time to somebody who's only conflict there is that he's from a football family.

Would also explain the escalation in tension coinciding with Lloyds arrival at the club too
I think what will happen is Once Teague Russell and Lloyd are all sacked and their replacements found and settled in..Liddell will depart as well by mutual consent.

I see so many similarities between us and Richmond in 2016.

They went into 2016 expecting to make finals. They finished on 8 wins, missed finals, fell apart at the end of the year and lost in the last round by >100 points.

Things looked so bad, there were calls to sack the coach.

Sound familiar?

Well, they kept the coach, stuck to the plan, added the missing pieces in Prestia and Nankervis and won the flag in '17.

It's uncanny how similar the situation is to us now.

I think we also need to stick to the plan, pick up some finishing pieces and we also might win a flag by '17.....
