There's not been any final decisions made by those parties yet. You a pessimist by nature or just trolling?

Is what he posted actually trolling though?

I still find it very difficult to believe the Dees would trade Oliver, less so with Port and Wines (esp if Port win a flag)

What he posted is probably not what most of us wanted to hear, but hardly trolling (in my opinion)

Does Phillips offer anything more than a token upgrade on Newnes? Seems a bit meh to me.

Happy to take him for a late second or early third if Collingwood have told him to explore his options so they can free up some cash. But wouldn't be expecting him to make any significant impact.

If we're gonna recruit a third player via trade, I want someone who makes a difference in an area of need. Would prefer Smith to Phillips, in that regard. Similar statistical output to Newnes/Phillips, but brings a wealth of experience from a succesful side.

In the very likely event that we don't get Wines, Oliver, Mitchell, Kelly or any of the other A-graders whose name has been floated on here, Phillips from the Pies would be a perfect consolation prize. Right age and right type of player. Would be rapt to pick him up.

And thus concludes the greatest trade period in history.

Except for the part that Phillips is only a Battler and he would become an instant whipping boy for us, of that I am certain.

If we HAVE to try go for another experienced in this trade period (which I am not convinced at all we should), why not just sign Brouch as a FA ?

I still firmly believe we need to try get a couple more good kids in the draft as well.

Anyone claiming definitively that Wines is or is not coming is full of it. He's midway through a finals series, so he is only ever going to say he's staying, and by the same token it's highly unlikely he's entered into any discussions with other clubs.

My gut tells me he's our best chance, and a decent one at that. It might not eventuate, but there is no way anyone knows for sure this early.

How many of our lads racked up 38 touches v the Tigers and 36 odd v a few other teams?

Plus he's played a good few finals.

I agree, them being very interested in Crouch furthers this, but I think it will be hard for him to leave if they fall short of a premiership

It is much more possible than some might think that both Wines and Oliver are very keen on coming to Carlton.

We can’t accommodate or trade for both; so there are sensitivities in negotiations and timing. Saad has complicated this (in a good way I think).

If the club could pick only one, who would be better of the two?

The Oliver camp has been on the front foot recently while Port are still in finals.

Both command a similar trade price. Based on age, Oliver

It's not about the one game out of the box he plays every other year, it's about what he offers on a regular basis...and I don't think it's much more than Newnes. I'm down with incremental improvement where we can get it, but it's also not something we should over-invest in.

You sound like a participation award type.

Not at all, but if you're going to make comments like Diesel did make them directly to the player concerned. Managing different personalities is a requirement of managers in all different industries, it's an important task. It's not a 'one size fits all' situation. Some people respond positively to a kick in the bum, others need to be treated differently. To publicly make that critique can work to either make him prove you wrong or affect him in a negative manner.

In fairness to Tim, he was basically saying Saad is worth a first round pick - which for us is currently Pick #7.

Garry then said 'what if they split with Geelong' - Tim said something like that would be a different story.

It would be a different story.
They'll accept a fair price for Saad, and not some fantasy price.
