Also hopefully Cameron going to the Cats lessens their desire to go hard for Charlie Curnow.

When Cameron retires in ~6 years, Charlie will be almost 30...

So still not old enough for Geelong ;)

I would argue this years draft being compromised is exactly the reason not to worry too much about holding pick 7.

It becomes a lot more compromised as you start to get towards the mid-late end of the first round.

There's really only one, maybe two bids expected in the top 10 prospects, so #7 selection isn't compromised too much.

If we find another player of similar quality to Saad then we should trade it. If not, stay high in the draft and get it done with 2 x second rounders.

How good was Walshy's interview last night after MOTY?

Made my heart swell; so humble and such a professional.

So glad he's wrapped in navy blue 💙
My sister messaged me the same thing and she's extreme Richmond!

Our ITKs posted numerous times before Ben was drafted that his natural talent was greater than Jack's. However, it was always reiterated that he lacked the want that is Jack's trademark.

Everyone has talent when you get to this level. But if you don't want it... there's nobody who can transform that talent into an AFL player.

That Ben didn't make it was never going to be a major shock based on those comments. And here we are.

GWS came out straight away declaring they would match Cameron.

Not a peep re williams.

No way they match Williams

Cameron they need to take a stand on.

They won't match Williams because they'll get pick 8 as a compensation pick.

The reality is that's all he's worth on the trade table anyway.

As we hold pick 7, GWS don't really have anything to gain by matching the bid.

Cameron would be worth 2 x first rounders. They may want pick 11 + something as a starting point. The fact that Geelong have 3 x first rounders this year means they're likely to get more via trade than what they would get as a standalone compensation pick.

I think we should try and get involved in this trade.

Pick 7 for 19 and Parfitt or Clark. Then on-trade 19 for Saad.

Like Dangerfield he will be going to the Cats for well below market rate.

They will get pick 10 or ask 13 and 16 from the Cats.

System isn't working if a team in the GF has room in their Cap to fit a A grade player. It will be interesting to see what they have to clear out to fit him in. Cockatoo is probably on overs based potential. and Ablett would be on Ok money
This might’ve already been mentioned but if Geelong's offer is low enough, GWS should go full Dodo with Cameron. Force a trade for overs or send him through the draft. There is no downside for them.

People whinging about free agency are forgetting that the key word is "free". As in, the players have freedom to decide where they play.

If players are willing to take LESS money to have success, good on them. Isn't that what every club and fan wants?

It's up to the other clubs to try and create a culture like Geelong's, rather than going after mercenaries who will play for the highest bidder.

Keep in mind, nothing lasts forever. How many players do you see falling over themselves to go to Hawthorn now?

Patience, my friends. Patience.

This. It’s also worth noting the good-faith between our two clubs due to previous dealings. Some may not think this holds much weight but it really does.

You make it hard when you bring them up yourself and tell other people not to. I think any and all of those names could make a fist of it in a pinch, which is what we'd need in the short term. Some better than others, and dependent on the opposition, but to varying degress they provide depth.

Marchbank is the same height as Grimes. The game is changing, and not every KPD needs to be 195cm and 95kg.

NO

Sure. But restricted free agency means that a player can't leave for less without the blessing of the club they're leaving. Not sure GWS are feeling very beatific....
