Needing points means a club trade for a bunch of later picks, not high picks like 7.

Not when that player is going to be bid on at #1 or #2

A bunch of picks in the 20s and 30s (the usual strategy) might not cut it this time.

You also can't accumulate a horde of picks in that sweet spot unless you have list spots. And with reduced list sizes, the doggies can't go into draft night with ~30 players on their list.

Honestly DODO reminds me of some of my clients (I wont mention their cultural background) that walk into my display homes. They expect to build the Taj Mahal and pay Govt housing price for it.

I quote them double and save myself 10 times the service and work they will command compared to other clients. You can see it all over their faces and DOD has that same Look. Looks like a vendor selling Fake Persian rungs in a back street market somewhere in the Sub Continent. you never Cave in with these types or they have you fro breakfast.

Your cloaking device is shithouse.

Hang on...

So you demand that people leave Marchbank (193cm) and Plowman (193cm) out of discussions about potential tall defensive stocks.

But will happily throw Gardiner (193cm) and Kolodjashnij (193cm) in when it suits you?

I'd also suggest that if Geelong have to turn to SDK in 2021, or Brisbane to Ballanden, to take on a Charlie Dixon or Tom Lynch or Harry McKay...that the forwards listed would have an absolute feast. Which is my point. Those clubs have no greater depth in players capable of taking the game's bigger forwards than we do.

So either draft a KPD for down the line, or park it and reassess it as an area of need at the end of next year when we've given Macreadie and Marchbank another 12 months to (hopefully) build some continuity. If they can't, go after a quality KPD from elsewhere. If they can, then maybe it's not something we need to invest in.

You think all defenders at 193 are similar?

Goddard was the first point of call when we had an injury and he wasn't the answer, we have also delisted BSOS.

Marchbank will NEVER be able to play KPD, despite so many suggesting it since we acquired him

No matter how you want to dissect it, we are too thin in that area and the competition as a whole have more options than we do

We had so many bluemours and now the closest thing we get here is people talking about who is an ITK or not

You can tell who is and who isn’t an ITK straight away. The ones that aren’t don’t have a number at the end of their username.

They'd make themselves look like dead set idiots if they did...

Let's not forget, they are the ones who got on their high horse and said "If you don't want to be here, then ship off" or something along those lines...

A club has never matched a FA bid, if the player signals his intentions to leave then they will leave, no club will hang onto them.

Furthermore, they will receive pick #8 for him as compo, what could they possibly hope to get from us that will be better than that?

If anything, they'd match the bid for Cameron and look to get hold of the Cat's first rounders.

Clubs know if bids can be matched, so it never really gets to that point.

If I was GWS, I would not match Corr or Williams, then let it be known to the Cats that they now have enough coin to match any offer for Cameron

There's also that they still have to take some other draft picks.

If the bid comes top 3, and assuming they haven't used a rookie upgrade for one of their mandatory picks, the post-discount points-matching would likely obliterate their remaining picks (possibly into a deficit for next year). That could mean that while they get JUH, they also are required to take two kids on 2 year contracts with what probably end up as the last 2 picks of the draft. Far from ideal.

Given those circumstances, I'd figure they probably want to upgrade a rookie to remove one of the mandatory picks and then make sure they've got enough points to get JUH and still have a reasonable pick to use on the next player. Doesn't have to be an amazing pick, but not the absolute last pick. To do that they might have to trade a future for something this year or trade a player.

Another alternative (again, assuming the rookie upgrade nullifies 1 required draft pick) is trying to trade in ahead of a JUH bid, pick someone else, then take JUH and who give a f*** how far into deficit we go next year. Although that's risky, as unless you've got pick 1 you can't be sure it'll work.

I'm not sure if there's a limit to how far into points deficit you can go while matching bids (if there isn't, there should be!), but there could be possibilities around that.

Gut instinct says they'll be looking for trades to amass points by trading with clubs looking for earlier picks. "you want 12? Sure, give us your 20 and 30. yes, of course 37 is on the table, give us 45 & 50" etc

Heard Lachie Neales missus is nice.

Maybe I am not thinking about this the right way but if GWS match Geelong for Cameron and they make a trade with Geelong for Cameron, GWS aren’t actually playing Cameron any money. So can’t they technically turn around and match Williams?
Not if we've already signed Williams before trade period.

I love the kid but why would we need another HBFer

Next Friday can’t come quick enough! We need to see Williams sign with us so my ass doesn’t fall out

Shocked to be sitting here when Dodoro doesn’t get his dream of Neale, Witherden, Walsh, Wines and 6 1st rounders in the next 3 weeks.

I think they might be in some strife down there then, HBF. Would be asking for him to play one more if he is up to it. Kolodjashnij, Henry, Blicavs, Stewart, Bews, O’Connor as a back 6. It’s missing a player like Taylor, a few play shorter than him. Unless Okunbor or De Koning come on/are played and blooded.

Back on Cameron though, Giants will definitely match. Williams deal will be fine. Can’t believe the trade period is pretty much here! Those 4-5 weeks flew by..

Suddenly splitting our pick 7 with the cats makes alot of sense.

They don't have the cap space to match both. They would get more of a trade with Cameron as Williams is not worth two firsts.
Spot on, they either match Geelong and trade him for two first's or a first and a player. That leaves them with their own first, Williams compo right after it and then one or two more first's from Geelong. Watch for them to go hard at moving up the order for whatever of the key forwards are left after Adelaide pick one of them.
Could definitely tempt North for pick 2, in a rebuild they may go quantity over quality. Pick 2 for two of the firsts GWS will have and a third or something.

I wonder if it also becomes more difficult. They’re not going to give up 3 first rounders for Cameron which makes getting two for one less likely. Maybe it’ll be a three way trade with us?

do GWS have academy players again?

I don't disagree with that, but no one is considering the obvious

The likes of Williams was seemingly happy to stay if the right terms could be reached. If Cameron is traded, GWS would have the coin to satisfy Williams salary expectations

Hopefully his decision heavily factors his desire to play as a fill time mid and perhaps sees us as better finals prospect moving forward
