I don't disagree with that, but no one is considering the obvious

The likes of Williams was seemingly happy to stay if the right terms could be reached. If Cameron is traded, GWS would have the coin to satisfy Williams salary expectations

Hopefully his decision heavily factors his desire to play as a fill time mid and perhaps sees us as better finals prospect moving forward

This is what concerns me.
I know there is talk of a line in the sand approach where players were told if they want to leave, then go. This would be a big 180 to come back on bigger $, but stranger things have happened.
I’m still confident that ZW comes to us, but the Cameron news has me a little concerned.

Saw a comment on here earlier from someone saying GWS wouldn't get a compo pick for each RFA that leaves, that's incorrect. They will receive a compo pick for each player to leave.
The rules are tad ambiguous and could be read to be either way.

I quote: Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks apply to clubs with a net loss of free agents. This is based on a formula determined by the AFL.

Which relates to net loss of free agents, so you would think one pick but......

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.

Which says picks, not pick. So there is the option for the AFL to provide multiple picks.

You think all defenders at 193 are similar?

Goddard was the first point of call when we had an injury and he wasn't the answer, we have also delisted BSOS.

Marchbank will NEVER be able to play KPD, despite so many suggesting it since we acquired him

No matter how you want to dissect it, we are too thin in that area and the competition as a whole have more options than we do

Of course they will have similarities...and differences. But you're still dancing around the point.

We have a variety of players with the size to be asked to do a job on a tall forward. If we lose Jones or Weitering, we have options. Let's take Geelong as an example. Weiters on Hawkins, Jones on the newly acquired Cameron. Weiters is injured pre-game. Casboult steps in to take Hawkins. Or Jones takes Hawkins, Marchbank/Plowman/Cas take Cameron, JSOS/Gov/Willo take the third tall.

Macreadie is the sticking point. If he's fit, we have that fourth KPD, and while he's still a bit inexperienced we know he has talent. The fact we're persisting tells me the club think he can get it together in 2021. If they don't, then I fully support cutting him and chasing a replacement.

That reads like GWS could get pick 1.

This is correct. However hypothetically I wonder how this system works in regards to the net gains/loss of Free Agency. For example, when we lost Eddie we didn’t receive a compensation pick due to acquiring Daisy in the same year. I know GWS won’t be bringing in any free agents of note this year, but if they did then how would the compensation be affected? They will be getting potentially two first round compensation picks for Cameron and Williams and a second rounder for Corr. I wonder how the AFL decides which compo is offset/negated in this scenario.

Potentially increases Geelongs interest in obtaining our pick 7 to accommodate Giants trade demands after they match Geelongs offer.

Geelong would then have pick 7 ish & 12ish to use in the deal with Giants who will want 2 first rounders in return.
Or the Cats want to keep a first and think 11 & 16 are fair for Cameron in which case we are shit out of luck doh, will be interesting which way they and GWS go let’s hope they want a top 10 then we are in the driving seat.

7 & 27 for 16, 18 and Narkle? Yes please although I’d like to try and keep 27 for Sam Collins from TSL.

Jordan Clark 👍 YoungGun
Would love Clark but can’t see Cats parting with him considering the age of some of there backs, was my favourite in his draft.

For sure. If picks bring in gun players ready to go, let’s do it! Crouch’s options seem to be dwindling... No picks involved though.
Was thinking exactly the same re Crouch but would depend on whether he has got more realistic on his price which surely he would have considering the lack of interest, would cost us nada except his wage.

Trades can't happen till trade week starts, he nominates first do of F/A and GWS have to match before trade weeks starts

Cats trade like no other club.

They have luxury of currently being a consistently successful side so they can afford to 'give away' early picks and also have players queuing up to go there so they do look like great traders. Like Hawthorn one day that will run out and they'll have to go through a rebuild. They still heavily rely on Dangerfield, Selwood and Hawkins.

We are getting there though - look at this year where we have been able to attract two genuinely good/great players (Williams, Saad).

You always have a better hand (and look a better trader) when you have the players wanting to join us.

I think what Arrow is alluding to is less GWS matching our offer on an RFA basis, and more that they might go back to Williams before the FA window opens and revise their offer. Say all of a sudden GWS are offering $50k more per year than us, and he gets to stay in Sydney with his current teammates...maybe he decides to re-sign.

I think the likelihood is minimal though. He's probably already a fair way through the process of arranging a move to VIC, and in his mind his decision was made weeks ago.

I'm also a bit sceptical that GWS could even increase their offer all that much anyway. Nor would they want to overpay a player they'd plan to use at HB when they're now going to be short a key forward. Expect them to make an offer to Ben Brown instead.

And so the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer....

Such is FA.

We did the right thing by going full rebuild, strong internal culture, tight group. It's the only way to ward off top clubs and avoid being a simple "feeder" club.

Spot on, they either match Geelong and trade him for two first's or a first and a player. That leaves them with their own first, Williams compo right after it and then one or two more first's from Geelong. Watch for them to go hard at moving up the order for whatever of the key forwards are left after Adelaide pick one of them.
Could definitely tempt North for pick 2, in a rebuild they may go quantity over quality. Pick 2 for two of the firsts GWS will have and a third or something.
Great point Greek they will definitely be looking to upgrade to an early pick for one of the KP ForwArds, Sydney might be there best bet at 3.
