With the big men dominos starting to fall there are a few clubs very thin on KPF’s. Ben Brown and 2m Peter aside our spares in Casbolt and () might be attractive prospects for these mid level clubs that need a stop gap until their new prospects come on. I’d be happy with () and 27 for Kelly.

Hasn’t there been talk about a review of the whole system? There needs to be some adjustments made the whole thing is way too compromised and unfair...
I have no problem with the NGA etc, but to be fair, all these players should be paid up for before the main draft using the clubs first picks. Eg: WB have to use their first pick for JUH. No pick trading down allowed either. If the club doesn’t want to use their first/next pick, the kid goes in the open draft. Once all the academy kids have been selected the main draft goes ahead, Pick 1 is Pick 1, no holds barred and pick swaps are now allowed.

I'd start with building in a club loyalty incentive. For example, for every year of service for a player, an additional 5% of that player's salary is exempt from the cap. After 10 years = 50% exempt, so the player's own club can pay him massive overs to keep him if they wish, but it's still the player's choice to leave. Then let any player out of contract move to a different club if they wish i.e. anyone OOC is a free agent. Anything is tradeable, picks, players, coaches, PSD picks. No FA compo. There, fixed.
I'd also look at a "buy out price" in contracts.
So when a player signs up he may agree to say 1500pts buy out. So if he wishes to move clubs, the player knows any new club must find those points or no deal.

7 will get pushed back to 8-9 on draft night.

16 and 17 will get pushed back into the 20's.

I'm still not convinced that sort of deal is worth it unless we know we're getting another player through the door during trade week.

2 x 2nd's for Saad with something coming back.
16 or 17 would get Saad done.
It's probably overs.

Josh Kelly ??

Would take a lot more than that to get a deal done.

Have to be on desktop to change it.

Yeah, definitely can't see GWS doing that deal. Would they be after KPF’s anyway.. they still Finlayson, Himmelberg and Riccardi. Okay they are no Cameron, but still a decent trio. Also Kieren Briggs yet to play any games and Zach Sproule, who has played 4 games.

So the Bulldogs get the consensus #1 draft pick for pick 11? Sounds a lot like the old father son and academy rules that had to be changed as it gave teams too big an advantage. Imagine if the reigning premiers could pick up the player considered the best in the draft at pick 18? System works fine now, clubs have to decide what they are prepared to pay and how they do it.

btw, those are parentheses, not brackets.. unless McGovern has had a change of nickname?
Mitch Parentheses McGovern, might stick.. idk

The AFL is over regulated , hopefully given current economic & social conditions will prompt Administration to rethink and review structures.
Far to ambitious and eager to expand, consequentially diluting skilled player pool and creating unnecessary difficulties to many established clubs.

Potential to be a terrible draft.

Compo pick to Adelaide (Crouch)
3 Matching Bids on NGA players in top 10 Ugle-Haden (Bulldogs), McGuiness (Pies) and Jones (Port)
Potential Bombers compo pick(s),
No doubt Norf Compo picks if Higgins/Brown etc depart
GWS compo pick for Williams.

Don't forget the compo picks especially for Norf etc will be subject to the AFL special sauce to give them higher picks than they deserve (known as the anti-Waite weighting)

Disagree. On average the 22nd player on each team picked today is better than the 22nd player picked 30 years ago.
Well the population is 50% bigger, sports science has improved dramatically and training of underage players has intensified to an almost ridiculous point so it would be a miracle if they weren't better.

The more accurate question would be how far removed is the 22nd player from the best player, the 10th best player and even the 18th best?

It would also be worth looking more at 10 and 15 years ago rather than 30.

North will not get compo picks for Brown or Higgins as neither are free agents.

I'll drive to Sydney & cop the Covid fine just to do this deal.

I don't disagree with that, but no one is considering the obvious

The likes of Williams was seemingly happy to stay if the right terms could be reached. If Cameron is traded, GWS would have the coin to satisfy Williams salary expectations

Hopefully his decision heavily factors his desire to play as a fill time mid and perhaps sees us as better finals prospect moving forward
Not if they are matching Jeremy. They have to proceed on the basis they can't meet zacs salary request. Why are people not getting this?

Because this might be the first time that it has been explained the way that you just did.
