Oliver would be an unbelievable addition; between he and Cripps we'd never lose a centre clearance.

You add Oliver, Williams and Saad to our side and we're a completely transformed unit. Extra grunt, serious run and speed on the outside...not to mention there would be an expectation that much of our improvement in 2021 will come from within.

But I can't get too excited about this just yet, because whilst I can believe that Oliver may want to come, I just can't see how a deal gets done. Wait and see.

All our picks + Kennedy on the table. No problem there.

I'm not OK with trading Stocker though. There's just no need to entertain the thought and I maintain a lot of people are jumping to conclusions on that front that are completely inaccurate.

Maybe, but if you add Williams and Oliver to our midfield how on earth is Stocker ever going to get a look in anyway? If he somehow is the key to unlock the trade to get Oliver in you definitely explore it.

When you look at the team sheet there is essentially 7 defenders & forwards, 8 mids & 1 ruck.
2021 best 22 midfield - Cripps/Curnow/Murphy/Williams/Oliver/Walsh/Setterfield and let's say Newnes on a wing.

We have some forwards who can rotate mid like Martin/Gibbons/Fish/Cunners.

Depth options for an inside midfield position include Dow & Philp - both played games this year ahead of Stocker. And then there's Kennedy although I assume he could be traded.

I mean I wouldn't put Stocker on the table straight away but IF we had to it's a no brainer...he's well down the pecking order and we have plenty of inside mids on the list.

Would that suggest he is going to Essendon?

If you believe the media, the Bombers are getting pick 6,7 and 8, they don’t seem to be smelling what I am.

I don’t know why he’d go to the *, plenty of other clubs in a better spot where he would fit, like us.

I like and agree with a lot of what you have said, i just see it differently particularly with Fisher and Cunners playing greater roles through there, hopefully time will tell...

Skill, tick.
Athleticism, tick.
Will to take hits and put body on the line, not yet.

SPS, Cuningham and Fisher don't tick all the boxes and IMO the physicality part is massive.

We'll quickly go back to getting smashed around the contests if we play the wrong guys in the wrong positions.

They need to prove to Teague they will be uncompromising when a contest presents itself and when strongly physically challenge by the opposition to get a look in at the centre and so far this is the big weakness of these three players (and some others).

Our coach has this right.

Don't think we need Melb involved, Fantasia + 2 x 2nd round picks or a first to Port, Kennedy to Ess, Wines to Carl.

Wait, 7 and Kennedy to Ess, Fantasia plus a first to Port, Wines to Blues.

Can't believe I'm wasting my time with this....

Call it what you will, there is nothing wrong with it, the majority here will say we did the same thing with the Giants, taking their dead wood for favourable deals on certain players, it’s smart and not illegal.

All the saints are doing is trading players with inflated contracts, they have to be traded, if there is no trades to Adelaide then the story is made up.
This is not the same as our salary dumps from GWS because we didn’t manipulate the compensation system which magically gifts pick 2 to a team who is undeserving. Everything that we received as part of the salary dumps came directly from GWS.

Nominated Essendon

That's good news. Most on here won't like it but we want EFC to be busy with their own deals to be done. It means Dodo can't waste our time with Saad as he has other priorities. It also means he will need picks to get the deal to happen. He'll drive a hard bargain but he can't sit on his hands and laugh if he doesn't get his asking price.

That motivation can work to our advantage.

He'd be depth until he pushes his way in.
Not considering him as anything else until form warrants it

3 way deal, late 1st to GWS, Caldwell to *, Saad to us?

Another small-ish mid for Essendon.
Not to say it can't work, but they have plenty of other holes to fill.

I couldn't see how nor why we would have been seriously into Caldwell. If we were though, he would have come to us and not Essendon.

That just makes too much sense.....it has to be.

What's he realistically gettable for...a late teens pick given he's out of contract?

So much to play out this trade period...if Essendon get pick 19 compo for Daniher they might accept it if that pick is enough to land Caldwell in a straight swap.

But otherwise Essendon NEED a decent pick from us to pass on and can't risk losing Saad for nothing...again if we swapped pick 7 with Geelong/Brisbane and gave them a pick in the teens they could give up for Caldwell that would soften the blow for them since they apparently want players not draft picks...meaning they might accept essentially getting Caldwell for Saad.

If this all eventuates and Oliver comes to Carlton.............................I wonder when we can expect Gary Lyons contact to be running naked around the TAN.
We will get exclusive footage of him nuking membership ticket.

There's a lot to play out can't make definitive statements yet.

Essendon will have picks from Daniher leaving.

We might get a first rounder back with Saad for 7 if that eventuates.

a 2020 and 2021 first with a player like SPS etc would still allow the Dees to perhaps target a Ben Brown and fill the hole left by Nev Jetta.

One certainty, this trade period will be wild.
If we somehow swapped future firsts with * it would make next year so so good
Nominated Essendon

this gives us a bit of leverage.

I would say Saad is definitely worth more on the trade table than Caldwell.

Yeah but don't think it's far off...maybe steak knives Essendon's way but not more than that.

I think this nomination might help us...Essendon don't want picks they want players and if they can bring Caldwell in it would help placate the members and they'll push the good news story taking heat off the club leaders...they obviously care a lot about optics so this means something. They can turn the narrative around from 'player exodus, Essendon in disarray' to 'we're turning over a new leaf with the review but look we are already able to attract in demand young players' and sell hope.
