As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

Sounds like Smith to the Cats

Wow Cats getting J Cameron/S Higgins/I Smith?

They're really doubling down on this tactic of recruiting good, but really old players for cheap. Follows from Steven last year.
Wonder how this will work out for them, as we're hearing some of the kids like Constable/Narkle will be looking elsewhere for opportunity.

Going all in for a premiership while they have Selwood/Hawkins it seems.

Their best 22 next year would be seriously old with the likes of Selwood/Hawkins/Higgins/Smith/possibly Taylor/Henderson/Tuohy...even Duncan/Menegola/Guthrie are getting up there in age around 29.

I know a play manager and he is advising some of his clients to play dead in interviews with Geelong due to their refusal not to play young players. It is just a dead-end for so many of them that would be playing regularly elsewhere. Time will tell if this bites them in the long run.

Talk about it all you want, nothing wrong with that. But thinking we're more than a small possibility of it happening is only kidding yourself.
And definitely not getting my hopes up as I know it's extremely unlikely. Fact is the reality of it coming to fruition is very very minimal is it not?

I dont know where you keep reading this to keep repeating it, but I dont recall anyone here saying its a certainty to happen. Not even the ITK's have suggested anything of the sort. A multitude of things have to fall into place for it to happen. We all know this. All thats been said is if a deal can be agreed upon between the two clubs, then he will come to the Blues. Nothing more, nothing less.

If Saad was contracted then I could understand pick 7.
The fact that he is out of contract to me puts him in the 11-20 range for a trade.

I still struggle to understand why any club has to pay anything for a player that doesnt have a contract anymore. To me , they are essentially free agents and should be treated as such. It shouldnt cost any club anything at all to acquire and OOC player.

I’m sorry, but when did * run this transaction. Saad wants to go where? That’s right us, not Hawthorn, St. Kilda, Norf, he chose us. Trading anything to * is essentially goodwill. Do any other dealings first - ie split pick, or go after another player or whatever, then table OUR best offer. If * don’t want it, walk him to the PSD. No-one will take him, and that’s IF anyone even has a PSD pick, and he hasn’t spoken to them or had a medical!?!? Reckon * will keep a PSD pick to get him to stay? - really!!

Make it a reasonable offer I agree, but I don’t see it anything different to Martin. We were reasonable, they didn’t want it, we walked him to PSD. Not our problem.

If we use 7 in a direct trade for Saad, I will quit this forum, that’s how confident I am. I see a split with GEE or BRI.

Couldn't possibly be a straight up swap. There could be a couple of clubs involved.. we'll get something back (pick or player) but 7 will be used in some way, shape of form.

Say what we want about TR, but listening to Ralph Carr discussing the possible Dustin Martin move to GWS made for great radio.

Not sure how so many have dropped their guard, discarded correctness for facts and just spoke out. More of this, please....

Did they announce who pulled the strings on the deal? I remember he was done and dusted at GWS but then off memory I think the AFL got involved. Any confirmation?

Looks better than his last 2 attempts.. I'd do it :smilev1:

We'd be absolute idiots to take on Treloar and his salary.

We'd have no room in our cap. Not to mention, the Pies are only willing to pay 250k of that for 1 season, after that we have to foot the bill and pay him on a back ended contract...

Who in their right mind is going to pay him 900k and then we have to go to Harry and Cripps and say yeah, sorry we can't pay you blokes Treloar's wage... even though they are miles ahead of him...

Plus, he's too old, too injury prone and his kicking skills are dreadful.

Terrible list management on their behalf... let's not turn their mistake into ours...

The AFL is one of the only professional sporting competitions in the world where trading of out of contract players is required. The AFLPA have been able to get the AFL to slowly water down the requirements for trades. There will come a day when all out of contract players can move to any team they like. It is all part of the restraint of trade argument.

Please listen to the whole. SOS sat back in the shadows a little in this discussion, but Carr was incredibly up front about the machinations.

Really worth the listen.

Hoping this is Essendon propaganda not reality

The article basically says pick 7 is overs and something must come back, which I think most here would agree with. If * really want pick 7, this is what I would propose:

Pick 7 for Saad + * future 2nd round pick

That pick is likely to be an early one, in a draft with lots of late blooming 19 YO Victorian kids playing VFL

exactly right and further - FA compensation should start from the 2nd round. Ideally they’d scrap it entirely but the comp isn’t ready for it.

1st round should be left alone. it’s crazy that clubs not involved in FA are penalised by picks shuffling.
