As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

I've never seen what's the attraction with LOB. Even on draft night when we picked him my first thought was "Who?", then after looking at reviews and profiles I wasn't overly impressed, in fact I was a bit disappointed. Nothing in his game so far has given me pause of that initial thought, if anything it's reinforced that initial reaction.

I just don't see what people see in him to make him say he's got great potential. Even Cottrell has overtaken him, and I don't think it's unfair to say that he's fairly limited talent wise. I feel like it's be a case of fans backing in there own and hoping he proves them right.

I can see the pacy, skilful and committed Philp easily taking LOB’s “spot” in the coming years. I’m comfy with him leaving in any trade to get Oliver over the line. Much rather him than Stocker.

Sounds like a good way to lose Charlie when his contract is up, tbh

There's that and the fact that Ed will be 31 when the 2021 season starts, he's worth more to us than what he would be as a part of any deal to another club.

I’ve had a few “in the system” share same sentiment that at 10 he was a big reach.

Agreed with a lot of what you're saying, I'm not assuming he needs to be Cripps, he just needs to be better than Newnes, who is holding him out right now.
When push comes to shove Newnes doesn't shirk the contest and can stick a tackle. Lob is the better user and probably a better runner. But there's no point if you can't at least win some of your own footy. Players who are solely uncontested and are successful in the league are few and far between.
Reckon there is something in what others have said about him not being the same player. Reckon we have tried to train him to be the link in the chain which causes him to overthink whether to go for the ball or scout around the pack.

The train wreck that was the VFL season would not have helped. Next season will see him hopefully understand when to go, through experience, and that will be the turning point.

Has what it takes, just caught in that zone between thinking it through and knowing what is required. All players go through it at some stage, probably the biggest contributor to the second year blues that players go through. No longer is it see ball, get ball ... structure and team role are being drilled into them. When players hit the 100 game mark, the structure becomes instinct and they start to show how good they can be consistently.

Don‘t write him off just yet, has time.

So * are trying to turn:
- Daniher, Fantasia and Saad
Into:
- Dunkley, Caldwell and ??

It seems do-able if Dodo attempts to be reasonable for a change.

I was thinking that if Oliver is a serious chance of coming and we have committed to Saad, we will need to offer up some decent talent to Melb (especially if we split pick 7 for 2 later picks).

Based on some of the names that have been suggested thus far, these players could be worth something (some worth more than 'something') to help get the Oliver deal over the line:

Jsos
Dow
SPS
Marchbank
Fisher
Williamson (left field option)

The following players are expendable in order to get Oliver in, but I don't think hold enough currency to make too much of a difference in a trade/ likely to be rejected:

Cunningham
OBrien
Kennedy
McGovern (I am a bit undecided on which list he should belong to)
Polson
Macreadie

Regarding some of those names, I would hate to lose Fisher, SPS and Williamson (and even Dow) but I wanted to know if others would be willing to say goodbye?

Those are the types of names it may take to get Oliver so are we willing to part with any of them to make it happen? Is there anyone else on the list that someone believes we should be offering? There are always surprises.

LOB is a running machine is he not? Thought that‘a what his main strength was?

Personally think he’s a logical option to use as bait or in any deals.
The one I would associate with being a contracted running machine would be Ed Curnow or at a stretch his brother but I can’t see us being willing to trade Ed as he is a warrior of which we have so few of, Charlie no chance, maybe LOB but I wouldn’t call him a machine, the other running machine is Walsh but again no chance.

I’d be having a chat to Ed Curnow. He’d be a walk up start in the Dees 22, and Oliver would most likely kick him out of our midfield somewhat. Ed plus a first round pick would be reasonable compo.

I don't mind how that looks as far as equitable trading goes.

However...

There's a few fairly significant caveats here. One is that Ed has more to give on the field, coupled with the fact that Charlie is rumoured to be more committed to us due to Ed's presence. In his absence, there's a chance he gets lured back down to Geelong, because that's what happens when players are from Geelong.

The other is that Ed's a role model and a leader for our group. Trading him out after his service to us in some pretty dark times would definitely send a message to the group concerning how loyalty is rewarded at Carlton, and I'm not sure it's a message we'd want to be sending.

See, on reading your post, I didn't think it was that bad an idea. But without solving or at least bypassing these problems, it's not a doable thing.

Was feted as having the best disposal by foot in his draft year?
