As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

The dirtiest part of this whole equation, is not that * will get Pick 7 (8), nor the fact that every * supporter will be laughing and taunting us about 'winning' the deal. It's because that that Sh1tstain Dodo knows we don't want to screw Saad and will do the right thing by him.

Personally, I think the AFL is at fault here (ensuring that * got pick 7 compo) because now even if we let Saad walk to the preseason draft, * can redraft him. All this, and he's not even a RFA, he's out of contract!!

Personally I think we should take our pick to the Dogs and go hard for Dunkley to F#ck * over and get that extra mid we want. The football world will not see us as not being committed, they will see Dodo for what he is - and arrogant %# who puts his ego before his club.
So let them.
They can deal with the shitstorm.
We haven't walked away from anyone yet, I'd be happy for my reputation to take the small hit. Dodo will get an even worse reputation and SOS will take his job instead.

Isn't that what he's really trying to do?

That's the point entirely, isn't it?

Our list is largely complete, if not still immature.

Our needs now are specific (speed, specifically speed getting the ball forward). Williams and Saad equal that in spades.

A grade mid? Oliver, Kelly, Wines - great, but it's all about timing....patience. Keep the bikkies in the jar till the right one is readily available. And yeah, I'd look closely at Treloar at the right coin.

KPD - to replace Jones? Yes, but can wait another year comfortably. McCartin as a KPD? Is anyone f'n serious? He was barely cutting it as a KPF injuries notwithstanding.

Kids who may or may not make it in 3-5 years? We've got 100s.

Only priority in the ND, even the rookie draft is a project ruck, or even a cheap mature ruck, and a small forward - come on down Isaiah Butters.

SO YES, let's get Saad locked in. Not for #8 alone obviously, but something decent coming back or e.g. LOB heading there to get an early second back.
Don't disagree with any of that really. We still have holes in our list, but there is only so much we can do in one trade period. As you say, a quality small forward, a replacement for Jones and another ruckman on our list.

Does Saad make us better in 2021 - yes.
And i'm sure Austin is doing everything he can to get the best deal for us.

This.

We shouldn’t judge a single trade in isolation; there’s a bigger plan at play and I have no doubt Austin and co are working towards that plan, and have the best interests of the club in mind as they put these pieces together.

And yes, I also can’t stand *.

As I said at the start, the clubs not just going to get bent over for the sake of it, but we will not be walking away from the trade.
"No player is bigger than the club" would also include potential recruits. We would risk damaging our rep a whole lot more if we took a soft deal. Possibly signal to other clubs to come at our players. Austin will have to earn his money here I suspect.

I don't think Saad is in that class of the 3 you mentioned, in that he doesn't have that short kicking game. Giving up pick 8 without a latish 1st coming back would be overs. I think we play finals next year, with or without Saad.

I get the feeling that supporters and maybe even the club, are now becoming impatient

Let's see how this plays out, in the now and next few years

I actually want Saad using his leg speed and his long kicking game, because we have the forwards to grab the footy!

Brisbane 18, 19, 42, 69, 85, 93
Carlton 8, 29, 50, 86

Carlton and Brisbane trade picks as follows:

Carlton give up 8, 29 and 50
Brisbane give up 18, 19 and 69

Give Essendon 18 for Saad.

Dodoro is playing a great game to b3 honest. He has to do very little, and because of his so-called reputation, the media are doing all his bidding for him. Just have a look at all the kerfuffle in here.

Also, Matt Rendell (Ex-Pies) said on SEN today, any team interested in Treloar should just get him to nominate them and then the filth will just have to take what’s offered. He suggested $500 and a 2nd or 3rd with the filth paying $400 for the term of the contract. They have no legs to stand on in his expert opinion.

I know I’ve said similar, but 8 for their 1st (@15), Treloar and paying $400 a year is a ridiculous win. I then pay their first to * for Saad - just like when Dodo traded away their 1st a couple of years ago. Can’t trade what we don’t have.

8 gets me Treloar and Saad, hmmmm!!
Finally.
Someone talking sense.

I doubt the club was planning this exact scenario

No one is questioning if Saad improves us, but that is separate from currency you give up
We should pay whats fair, and not risk walking him to the PSD. I just don't think us haggling over Saad for the sake of a few spots in the draft is really worth it.

Saads value for me is a mid to late first rounder. And we have pick 8. Its not that far off if we can't split pick 8.

Yeah if it was SOS doing it, he has the history and creds on the board. This Austins First deal for us. He will have zero credibility if he does this and we will be the next poaching ground.

Well if he does this, I hope he's thick skinned. Being his first trade for us, there will be a tsunami of supporter and member feedback coming his was if he doesn't get something decent back. Pick 43 (* current next pick after 1st round) isn't decent.

Smart thinking.

Maybe the pick they get from Port for Fantasia assuming they give it (27). Would like to push for their 2021 2nd rounder.

Skinny kid who hasnt played in a year and will take a couple of years to develop? Saad is a known quantity and immediately improves us.

Waiting for that statement

We will play finals with or without Saad. Currency is about what you get that makes you better medium to long term, as this short term should have been part of the plan a number of years ago.

So a question, which 27 year old(half back flanker) was traded in for a pick in the top 10, that went on to feature in a flag?

That's a good question. But a 27? year old back flanker, no... I would pay overs for a top small forward, or draft for several speculative ones.

We're talking this years draft. This list is no longer at the point where choosing kids over known quantities is necessarily the smart move. We have a couple of holes that need to be filled.

And especially this years draft. We're in a position where we can strengthen our list as well as our trading potential. Seize it. Let him have pick 8 and we'll get some change. We're in the market for a specific type of player because the assessment is that we need to start finishing off for a flag tilt and he fits the bill.
