Actually don't hate the idea of McCartin as a delisted free agent. Obviously massive doubt surrounding his mental and physical health, but when playing, he could provide great injury insurance for Charlie or Harry. Worth a free hit if we fill our other list deficits IMO.

I wonder if SOS targeted him doubt it being one of his mates top players but they do seem to target players a long way out
It seems it may Have led from dissatisfaction in the hub and club direction this year so probably not

The narrative coming out of Carlton has always been that we are prepared to trade 7(now 8) with a bit coming back. That's pretty much how the industry rates him.

We clearly backgrounded 2 articles, one by Mick Stevens i think it was, and one by Sam Edmund which clearly inferred this. This was weeks ago and the narrative hasn't changed.

Interesting with everyone scoffing about HBF'ers, that the B&F in 2 of the top 4 teams this year was a HBF and another was an ex HBF(Short, DBJ and Guthrie). They are a big part of the modern game.

I don't think Saad is in that class of the 3 you mentioned, in that he doesn't have that short kicking game. Giving up pick 8 without a latish 1st coming back would be overs. I think we play finals next year, with or without Saad.

I get the feeling that supporters and maybe even the club, are now becoming impatient

Let's see how this plays out, in the now and next few years

Doesn't have the short kicking game? Or doesn't play for a club with a short kicking game?

They do but they dont go on about it day after day after day after day......lol

Of course they don't. If they did, it would be like being on a discussion forum. That sounds awful.

I don't see a short kicking game, nor have I seen it in Teague's layers of a gameplan, which I believe needs this element

Maybe, it's also one of the reasons why the club/Teague wants Saad, as it fits the current style

TBF... to Austin and Forty3 rumour...

The people who are against it in here me included, are really only against it because we hate Essendon/Dodoro and believe that we need Pick 8
for a deal for Oliver or another Big Fish...

Highly doubt Austin would use any currency if it effected us getting a big fish..
In reality it may be a fair deal.. If we don't rate this draft, we could upgrade 2 seconds to a first with Dogs...

Austin is a Carlton man with blue blood same as us, doubt he will do anything against the best for the club...
But if he gives up pick 8 without getting something back and doesn't have a plan to do something with it, I may join the lynch party

Idea
Essendon> Pick 8
Carlton> Saad Pick 27 (Port)

Dogs> Pick 27,28,47
Carlton> Pick 13

Collingwood>Pick 13
Carlton> 2021 First (Pies)

Gives us 2 firsts in a super draft next year, to use or trade

No.
We MUST have a first coming back in, any first, so we can trade next year's and 2022 firsts if we want premium mids to get to Carlton next year.
Lots of good mids are either free agents or out of contract. We need trade capital that isn't our developing youth.
In fairness Saad is worth a late first. In fairness we should have a late first coming back in.
Under no circumstances should we sell the farm and our future for 1 flanker on his own.

Let's see what Austin actually does.
We didn't hang in there with the club this long just to watch a rookie shit the bed.

David Teague won a B&F. I doubt anyone would have given up a 3rd rounder for him

Curnow was ???, 2nd and 3rd in 2020, 2019 and 2018 respectively. Anyone believe an opposition will give up a top 10 pick for him ??? .....

There has been a lot of work done by Carlton, Saad and his management team to talk sense into the Saad deal. They’ve talked it down from 8 + (one of our under 22 year old first rounders) to working around us getting some change from Pick 8.
It’s at a tricky impasse at the moment. Daniher getting band 1 compo means any offer we make to split our pick 8 with Geelong or Brisbane can now be trumped by Essendon. The club is acutely aware of how negotiations went with Papley and Martin last year, and there is growing sentiment that when you convince a player to come, you need to make sure it happens smoothly, otherwise there are fears players and managers won’t want to work with us in the future.
As it stands the deal will have pick 8 going to the bombers with change yet to be agreed upon.
The dirtiest part of this whole equation, is not that * will get Pick 7 (8), nor the fact that every * supporter will be laughing and taunting us about 'winning' the deal. It's because that that Sh1tstain Dodo knows we don't want to screw Saad and will do the right thing by him.

Personally, I think the AFL is at fault here (ensuring that * got pick 7 compo) because now even if we let Saad walk to the preseason draft, * can redraft him. All this, and he's not even a RFA, he's out of contract!!

Personally I think we should take our pick to the Dogs and go hard for Dunkley to F#ck * over and get that extra mid we want. The football world will not see us as not being committed, they will see Dodo for what he is - and arrogant %# who puts his ego before his club.

So I'm about 10 pages behind currently, but have to say I'm kind of amazed at the reactions in here to the Saad stuff.

Seen quite a few people saying the club will lose them if we overpay for Saad, that they can't stomach it etc.

I'm concerned that we will overpay for him, and don't want us to, but come on. After the salary cap issues, the list management decisions, shocking results, coaching turn-over etc etc etc over at the least the last 20 years, this is what will lose you?

Seriously, if we have to pay slight overs and Saad improves our team and gives us a better chance at winning finals, go for glory. I couldn't care less about what other teams receive, only what we do and if it strengthens us.

From my spot here in the cheap seats what is proposed does seem a bit over, but I will back the club and list management team in to do the best they can and improve the clubs position. We're finally making real progress towards 17, not really the time to lose the plot over haggling on the details.

I'm tipping that if we're winning games next year and make the finals, nobody's going to be sitting there saying, we could have paid less for a player, dollarwise or by picks. It means nothing once the players hit the ground running.

Really, is that what he said?

If true I think we can assume that SOS has moved on and doesn’t give a flying fig about the club and would prefer to help the enemy.

Sounds like SOS is being an arse to me He's fitting in nicely with the Muppets..
He needs to get rid of that chip on his shoulder .

Does pick 8 for Saad and an exchange of future firsts pass the pub test? * are trading for Dunkley and the Dogs may not be interested in high picks in this draft (* trading their future 2nd prohibits them from trading their future first).

We'd be upgrading to a top 5 pick in a strong draft and * retain the capital to trade for Dunkley.

I expect to get flamed for the suggestion so be honest.

We have so many kids on our list we can afford to get the deal done just to get the player we want. Why risk missing out on him for the sake of a few spots in the draft.

That's the point entirely, isn't it?

Our list is largely complete, if not still immature.

Our needs now are specific (speed, specifically speed getting the ball forward). Williams and Saad equal that in spades.

A grade mid? Oliver, Kelly, Wines - great, but it's all about timing....patience. Keep the bikkies in the jar till the right one is readily available. And yeah, I'd look closely at Treloar at the right coin.

KPD - to replace Jones? Yes, but can wait another year comfortably. McCartin as a KPD? Is anyone f'n serious? He was barely cutting it as a KPF injuries notwithstanding.

Kids who may or may not make it in 3-5 years? We've got 100s.

Only priority in the ND, even the rookie draft is a project ruck, or even a cheap mature ruck, and a small forward - come on down Isaiah Butters.

SO YES, let's get Saad locked in. Not for #8 alone obviously, but something decent coming back or e.g. LOB heading there to get an early second back.

Trade Radio Monday Update  :

Convinced SOS Cornes is now employed by EFC..
Damo play's SOS like a puppet to get what he want's out of him..

Saad
  • SOS “Carlton will have to trade for Saad, Essendon have pick 6 & 7 and would pick him up in the draft or PSD”
  • SOS "Carlton will have to use Pick 8, Player won't do it"
Treloar
  • SOS “Carlton would need to tip out a few players $$$ to get Treloar this year”
  • SOS” Treloar, same player as Williams not great defensive running, would pass on Treloar and wait for an Oliver, Merrett type next year”

Williams
  • SOS “Thinks Zac is a super talent, but thinks his not worth $800-$900k and isn’t a mid-fielder... Hasn’t the running power to run defensively, which we have too many of these types”
  • SOS baited by Damo "Cripps only runs one way, but is such inside player it’s ok”
General
  • SOS “Carlton could be in trouble keeping Cripps, Walsh, McKay, Curnow going forward, with these big contracts for Williams and Saad”
  • SOS “He wouldn't trade Dow or LOB - No Preseasons and injuries for Dow and LOB, 2021 is a big year for them both of them, super talents”.
  • SOS said “ McGovern needs to pull his finger out, has the x factor, and Teague loves him”
Noticed SOS keeps his powder dry with what he has done at Carlton, but is kind of negative of everything since he left..
Hope SOS can bring himself to become a bluebagger again

Question... If we are chasing McCartin as reported, would that mean either McKay or Curnow could be on the table for Oliver?

Stopped reading as soon as I saw 'Damo play's SOS like a puppet to get what he want's out of him..'.
Agree with what he says or Disagree, nobody plays him.

We’ll get at least 2 firsts next year for Crippa

Let’s use Adam Saad - 3 years at Essendon, finished top 4 each year in b&f.

Fits a need we are looking for - running half back with pace.

Also fits an age bracket we need, 27.

Also comes in not needing development, like a new draft pick would. As a ready made player, fits us perfectly as we enter our finals window.

Also has 60 less games left in him when compared to when he was traded to Essendon.

Dodoro is playing a great game to b3 honest. He has to do very little, and because of his so-called reputation, the media are doing all his bidding for him. Just have a look at all the kerfuffle in here.

Also, Matt Rendell (Ex-Pies) said on SEN today, any team interested in Treloar should just get him to nominate them and then the filth will just have to take what’s offered. He suggested $500 and a 2nd or 3rd with the filth paying $400 for the term of the contract. They have no legs to stand on in his expert opinion.

I know I’ve said similar, but 8 for their 1st (@15), Treloar and paying $400 a year is a ridiculous win. I then pay their first to * for Saad - just like when Dodo traded away their 1st a couple of years ago. Can’t trade what we don’t have.

8 gets me Treloar and Saad, hmmmm!!

I just cant come around to giving pick 8 to *, it basically feels like they anchored his worth to be about pick 35 previously and since then they gave him a shit black and red paint job, drove him around for 3 years and then Presto! He is worth triple the value he once was somehow....it just doesn't sit right. Split 8 asap, ruthless on and off the field starting now.

Plow cost a portion of Pick 28........plus about half a Million of salary dump money. Good business for where we were, but lets not pretend we got him for a portion of Pick 28.

Plus Plow has had 1 top 6 B&F year whereas Saad has been Top 4 three in a row.
In a shit side. Let's not pretend he would have gotten top 4 bnf at Richmond or Geelong.

Edit: I mean Saad.

If you beg a bloke to come, then say nah e aren't paying pick 8, we just look like idiots. I'd be preparing ourselves for pick 8 to go to the filthy scum.

To add context, we have offered him a 5 year deal at around 3 million dollars. Debate the merits of that all you like, but it sends a message that we want him badly and we will have to pay accordingly.

If you have ever done any sort of high level deals or negotiations, you will understand this. If we try to pay less and say nah he aint worth that, the easiest and most simple retort is "obviously you don't value him".

Good or bad, we don't have a leg to stand on
And by paying overs you signal to the league that you will bend over for any rubbish deal. Conversely other clubs will target our players and come hard if they know we're soft. Sorry Adam, your current club has locked you in.
