The most likely outcome, for sure.

Hypothetically though, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that a club may pick him up before us in the PSD if it went that route. The club would need to be supremely confident or desperate though.
Best mate works in the four walls of a big four Victorian club in S&C - he is adamant no club would be stupid enough to pick up a player that doesn't want to be there. Whilst not beyond the realms of possibility, he sees it as incredibly unrealistic.

I'm not an ITK but knowing people who know more than I do helps me feel better about Saad in this situation - even if I do come across as a little ignorant :tearsofjoy:

I see so many people saying that we need to get help for Cripps, but do we really? I don't think lack of clearances out of the middle or being soft in the contest is our problem at all. Why are we using the help for Cripps excuse instead of solving our basic skill errors, turnovers, and absolutely horrid conversion rate of goals from inside 50s? In fact, when Cripps was injured we seemed to play quite fine, and everyone seemed to step up. Don't forget, Setters and Kennedy have only played 40 odd games, and will only get better with time.

We don't need Oliver. We have enough inside mids who play just fine and enough developing first round draft picks in Dow, Stocker and Kemp to help us for several years to come. What we need, is someone on the outside. A good two way runner who can accurately distribute the ball to one of our talls, while being just as good on transition, allowing us to not be easily scored against.

So, who can we target that accomplishes this? Zach Merrett, and the proof is in the stats. Ranks elite for inside 50s and score involvements, while being above average for score launches too. So that's the goal side sorted, but what about the turnovers and skill errors. Well, what about a casual 19.4 effective disposals per game, IN SHORTENED QUARTERS.

We lack quality outside talent, and as an FA next year, we need to go hard at him. Carlton FC, make it happen, and let's please stop using the help for Cripps excuse, because that is not what's wrong. If we did want to talk the load off Cripps, then we need to rotate him through the forward line with JSOS or Kennedy, but that's a different problem, and even then I don't know who would 2nd ruck.

Very different era mate. that will never happen again now that the players hold the power. It'd be nothing for a player (ie:Saad) to file a restraint of trade argument against say * (or any other team) if they picked him up in the PSD. On top of them having to spend $650K Plus on a player that won't talk to them. Anyone who is concerned about him not making it to us in the PSD needn't worry - those days are gone.

That option has always been available, just that no one in the AFL has tried it.

Terry Hill did in the NRL in 1991 and they now don't have a draft.

A good point but wouldn't they do one as a matter of course if he signed with them?
They would for sure, however you are still agreeingvto buying sight unseen for want of a better term which removes much of the buyers protections to any sort of recourse given he would be being selected before the medical.

Getting to the outer reaches of my legal abilities but brother in law (lawyer) was explaining the intricacies of it ages ago, probably should have paid closer attention!

Anyone else eagerly awaiting 12pm so that we can be excited at the fact Oliver is coming since it was so strongly reported yesterday by a poster 😂

Lawyer speak is too much for me as well.

If Saad falls through and goes to the ND I reckon we'd have to use 8 to get him, couldn't risk that he'd last til our second so I think 8 may need to be the cornerstone of the trade.

Better chance if he goes straight to the PSD but the wild card here would, IMO, be Hawthorn. Saad wants to come to us but likely wouldn't be too fazed about a professional unit like the Hawks.

I think we need to trade for him and trust Austin and Co. to get it done.
So you’re telling me that if Saad put a ridiculous price for the minimum period clubs would risk their first rounder on him? Lots of risk and very little reward for a player seeking to play for Carlton. Dees didn’t do it for Martin last year and that was in the PSD where they didn’t have to cough up anything

And that's why i think is why the AFL would "encourage" teams not to pick up a player in the PSD that has stated publicly they want to go to a particular team. At the same time protecting their draft system.

Can we afford that ridiculous price?

I don't know the answer, do you?

Lloydy and Cornes, a complete change of tone this morning. They're saying * will struggle to get deals done, pick 8 is way too much for Saad, and Dunk might stay where he is. All of a sudden narrative in the media, we're not the bad guys anymore

On SM-G960F using BigFooty.com mobile app

Lloydy really giving it to his old club. He really must hate what is going down at Tulla at the moment.

I'm not really one for the PSD approach.

BUT if it comes to that......I'd rather hand over pick 8 to the AFL than to *!!!

Then the AFL are tampering with their own system and, whilst I think you may be right, that's why many of us have lost faith in their ability to manage a sh*t in a forest.

Can't see a club taking Saad in the ND, if he doesn't want to speak or do a medical with other clubs

Although any side that is a finals contender might take the risk, slim though

If Dodo loses Saad for nothing after he stuffed up the Joey trade last year, he should be sacked.
The Saad trade will get done. Even Dodo won't be that stupid.
