I'm clearly in the minority but I'm fine with this. Pick 12-13 for Saad essentially isn't too bad considering this may get pushed back to 14-16ish. 10 pick upgrade in 4th round is inconsequential Bottom line is we just picked up two A graders in the trade period - best period since Judd in my opinion. Bring on 2021!

I'm with you C99.
Saad improves us greatly, clubs will see we are fair to trade with, and I really don't care about improving our position that much in this years draft. Of all clubs, we should know that one random pick in the 2nd round of a draft isn't going to make any difference whatsoever. Particularly in this years draft.

Jesus, settle down you lot.

This is not a good draft. We are getting Saad and Fogerty for pick 8.

Get excited about adding two guns to our already strong list. We are not far off - enjoy.

Pick 8 will be pushed out to pick 10 and given the lack of development and not being able to see the top VIC prospects play this year, it's going to be much harder than usual to nail draft picks. I really do think that has come into the negotiations and thought process.

I mean, it's been a couple of years and guys like O'Brien/Dow/Stocker still aren't in our best 22 and they were drafted in normal years. Saad will immediately improve us and help us reach finals - and reaching finals could help entice a FA like Merrett next year.

As if we couldn’t of done a trade with either Brisbane or Geelong and still ended up with a better pick then 48.

Austin is weak as piss and was to afraid of upsetting Dodoro. Look at the Saints last year with Brad Hill we want your first, sorry we traded it how’s this pick now.
Wait until the week is over, the Blues may have got a better deal from the Cats so they didn't need a second rounder.

You always instinctively feel apprehensive to give up a pick with a single digit in it, but take a look at the players selected in an uncompromised draft...
Now think about how uncertain picks would be this year given COVID and essentially 0 playing form. Happy to get Saad and move on :)

It's completely not our problem if you've tied your f2 to Caldwell...

Only problem is, GWS don't want it and no doubt he thinks a later pick swap to their favour will swing it over the line. Clubs are on to that, later pick swaps mean jack sh*t unless they need points, but in this case GWS clearly don't. I'd even hazard a guess and say that statistically, you're probably about as much chance to get a good player with a pick in the 50's as you are in the 40's.

He's so dumb.

Saad + f2 > 8 + f3 (Carl)

Leaves him with 6+7+8 to work with...

fanta > 29 (Port)

8 + 48 > 15 + 20 (Cats)

7 + 15 > Caldwell + f1 + 44 (GWS)

f1 (GWS) + f1(*) + 29 > Dunkley + 14 + 54

You lose:
Saad + Fanta +7 + f1(*) + f2(*) + 48

You have:
Dunkley + Caldwell + 6 + 14 + 20 + 44 + 54 + f3(Carl)

Of course, I've probably missed a few gotchas here, but the general idea is the avenues it opens up...

MUCH better than:

No Dunkley, lose Saad for 0, no pick 8, no Caldwell

Seriously he's a ****wit

got to think big picture: in Williams, Saad, probably Fogarty, out 8 - yeah we could have done it so much better - will never understand the lack of pick split, but we are significantly better today than we were a week ago

The real win here was that we held onto our future picks - next year's draft is better plus will not be impacted as much by academy picks and COVID.

It is but the extra second next year would have made it so much better.
We'll now get Fogarty, but I would have sooner waited the extra year for something else.

Sort of a double whammy given the news last night.....but we'll get over it.

EDIT: Have we earmarked that #48 for Oliver? :)
Anyway, a small forward to go and we've met objectives.

This is how I feel as well.
Not that bothered we didn't get a 2nd rounder back, particularly in this years draft.
And we still have next years future 1st.

Welcome to the footy club Adam.

Bingo, next year's first round pick is crucial and apparently much more of a safe bet than this year's COVID affected lottery.

Some serious toys being thrown out of the pram here.

Slight overs on the surface, but I hardly think we were fleeced.

Not thrilled with Saad deal. I think that's clearly overs.

But no point getting too upset. He is exactly what our backline needs.

Deal is done now. Welcome to Carlton, Adam Saad - future Carlton HBF premiership player ;)
Well said

Same sentiments.

If 48 gets the Foghorn over the line from the cats then that's not too bad a haul.
