Love your optimism on Dow.
Though you’re seriously underestimating Walsh if you think his elite trait is hard work & self belief. You don’t step, kick and goal in 3 steps from 50, you don’t go back with the flight and mark like he did. You simply don’t do what he has done in his first two seasons unless you have elite traits.
Don’t let his overall consistency mask what an elite overall talent he is. Walsh is a special footballer. We’d be KOTD if Dow matches Walsh at any level. Let’s hope he can.
Agree, Sam Walsh is an extraordinary talent, will end up with a cupboard over flowing with medals and awards. The fact that he has earned the distinctions he has to date, given the solid gold draft year, says it all.
I hope Paddy Dow excels too, as a Bagger and fulfills his potential.

Walsh will end up one of Carltons greatest ever players.

I'm being serious. Bookmark it.

The actual saying is 'the grass is always greener on the other side' These things start being used wrongly at some point and the more people use the incorrect version the more people think it's right.

It's like the predominantly wrongly quoted 'the proof is in the pudding' which if you actually think about it makes no sense, the correct saying is 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'.

I was being one of those annoying, pedantic campaigners who, when things go wrong, revels in telling people that things have gone wrong.

Maybe you’re right... but maybe many would have said ‘somewhat preposterous’ if after Simmo’s first 3 games that someone else expected he would play 350+ after doughnuts in disposals at that stage. Someone or more than one saw something in him.

I see some things in Dow that are elite. Walsh is a gun because he works hard and he has belief. But he doesn’t have elite speed or an elite kick. He is just super committed and consistent at everything. He is a soldier. He is a leader.

Give Dow that belief and I think he could be a star. But that’s just what I see in him.
He's quite quick actually, and he's not even developed through the hips yet.

The 2nd half of the year he was indeed one of our best kicks.

Just watch, this bloke is now 6'2 and capable of playing inside, outside, can get forward, can mark, can kick, runs both ways and arguably has the best tank in the league already. Not to mention his mental strength to never ever drop his head. All at the age of 20. Enjoy the ride, I like Dow but he will not get close to Mr Walsh.

The moment that defined Walsh in 2020 was when Bailey Smith belted him in the back of the head and he didn't even flinch. Haven't seen that toughness and swagger at Carlton since Keating was PM.

you mean the same Bailey Smith that the meedya keep telling us is a better player than Walsh? 😊

Bizarre that the draft is on a Monday (night?) too. Straight off to training for a couple weeks pre-Xmas.

Hopefully a few senior players return for a hit out prior.

And the season to kick off around the same dates as normal, though without an AFL organised pre-season?
Feel a bit sorry for the kids getting drafted then off to pre-season training the day after following a year where there is no way their training loads would be 'normal' (as in a 'regular' season etc). Gonna be a few boys feeling pretty ordinary and a bit of Gatorade passing the lips twice I would imagine.

Smith immediately called for a trainer and went off in tears with a busted hand. Unforgettable moment.

Going back with the flight into heavy traffic against Port showed up more than a few of his more experienced teammates IMO.

Just Google 2020 afl draft.

That goes to wikipedia, which has mistakenly lifted the date from a SEN article, which has the dates as 'TBC', as per all other media.

The second link goes to Twomey's Draft Guide, released today which says the draft is on the 9th.

Wanted to do him slowly

Neither of them are key forwards though. Gov maybe if we've been absolutely decimated in that position.

I get that they aren't key forwards, but I feel like we have enough talls who can play forward at this stage of our list management.
Plus, i'd rather have at least a first round pick when looking at KPP's. History has shown that most of the better KPP's have come from the pointy end of the draft.

“First to fourth-year players will return to training on Monday December 7 for a two-week block of training, while all other players will resume training on Wednesday January 6, 2021.“

Would love to be able to get down to the club to have a look at them going through their paces.

Intresting, clearly displays the date for me.
