Buckley spoke 1 million times better than Anderson or Ned Guy..

A little bit of honestly goes a long way.
I agree put into context 30% support staff let go some now have no income
And yet we feel sorry for couple of professional footballers earning over 500 thousand that have to work in a different environment people change jobs all the time
He spoke very well searched for honest answers came across as genuine

Really good players make everyone around them play better - we were lucky with Walsh as a new player he is exceptional...but eg SPS/Dow/Cuningham lacked enough on field depth to help them accelerate development...

I think the hidden benefit of Saad/Williams/Martin - will be that they in combination lift the rebound and between the arcs 'connectedness' of the side - Dochwertyy nenefits because if he cops a hard tag - Saad is freed, Cripps benefits as does Walsh because if they try and double team these blokes- Williams gets a free run...and so on...

all of a sudden blokes with genuine leg speed or acceleration - wont have to wait for slower players to get a move on and can start running better lines - knowing that a Saad or Williams or Martin will see them and goive off properly...cripps wont think he has to win ball and run 20 meters anymore he will be able to look for genuine run in Williams or some unmarked bloke liek a Dow or Walsh to give off too...

We haven't had that sort of outside run and smarts for years - I expect the team's on field skill and run to improve very quickly from here...and the proof will be how much easier it will be to actually score - the side has made very hard work of doing that for years now - that will change. I see Carlton as being one of the more exciting teams to watch in 2021.

Spot on, I am pleased the club actively sought to add an area of our best 22 that we were sorely lacking in the trade period (pace and leg speed/but running)..

If Matchbank can somehow have a change of luck and stay injury free, that would be another massive bonus.

Very excited to see how Tommy De Koning develops and thrives next year too.

We have the ingredients to play finals again , got a great, enthuastic young coach and A very talented group of players.

Naturally a lot of it depends on our injury list as well, as well as improvement from Dow, LOB and Stocker.

And I haven't even mentioned my lad Brodie Kemp yet :D

Haven't been this excited for a forthcoming season in a long time.

I reckon we'll smash a few teams - and that gets everybody brim full of confidence.

The big thing that speed will mean to me is that we won't be hemmed in our defensive 50 as much, at the moment we have to kick it out of defensive 50 and that is too easily countered with a good zone, especially if we don't immediately clear. This way we can put the ball under the arm and run either before eventually kikcing over the zone or better still using a combination of Saad, Williams, Williamson, and MArtin to link up with hand ball through the zone and be kicking into to an open forward line.

Reading all the medical prognosis on Patella's in general- it is hard to be positive. It is structural weakness in the bone itself. Let's cross our fingers. Maybe Charlie will need to become a stay at home Full Forward
I think even prior to these setbacks stay at home full forward was likely to be Charlie's position. Obviously prior he would have had greater mobility and given us more flexibility, but I think a Charlie that plays out of the goal square is still a very fearsome prospect, and Teague seemed to as well (when he played him prior to injuries)

The thing that worries me about Dow is his defensive game. Looks fast when he has the ball. Looks extremely slow when chasing a player.

That’s exactly what drives me nuts about him, the amount of times I see him jogging on the spot when he has a chance to influence maybe not catch is infuriating.

I reckon Walshy will be better.

I love the Cripp and he will captain #17 but i reckon sometimes he's fragile. If he has a few things go against him early he can drop his bundle a bit, then reverses it by trying to do too much.

Nothing phases Walsh, he's like the most focussed chiller ever. He could get 8x unfair 50m penalties against him and he'd shrug his shoulders and run another 5km without stopping for fun.

Oakleigh Chargers, NAB League / St Kevin’s College
Height: 188cm
Weight: 81kg

Medium forward/defender who showed distinct promise in the back half of last year playing eight matches for the Oakleigh Chargers in the NAB League including in their premiership side kicking 11 goals with his kicking a feature. Also capable of playing in defence and using his decision making, composure and good ball use to set up the play which was on display in just one trial game this year having 23 disposals against the Knights before the shutdown. Showed very good endurance at state testing with a 21.5 Yo yo score in the preseason and was appointed captain of St Kevin’s for 2020 suggesting he has leadership capabilities.

Cant be tolerated IMO...he needs to improve if he's to get games in the AFL team.

It also infuriates me...that real intent to apply defensive pressure to even get a finger on the ball carrier or even just perceived pressure is required to be a top team and win big games like finals. Watching the top teams like Richmond, some people somehow manage to not rate them despite them winning 3 premierships in 4 years...what they do really well is every player runs hard and closes the opposition down, making them hard to score against. You can't have any weak links as even just 1 player not doing their bit can allow the opposition to break through the defensive structures and score. This doesn't take any real 'talent', just determination, intent and fitness.

Dow too often just jogs alongside/behind the ball carrier...the stats might count it as defensive pressure but the eye test says he made no real impact to negatively affect the disposal or even better win a holding the ball free kick.

Exactly right.

Remember when the commentary team spent a week or two ripping into Fyfe because he doesn't work hard defensively?

They gave up when they realized he won the games for his team regardless.

If Dow was able to tear games apart offensively like Fyfe, Cripps, Pendles and Dusty who all are a little suspect defensively but have earned a little bit of leeway from their coaches since they are beasts at what they do and contribute so much offensively, then sure.

Except Dow is a young kid trying to break into the best 22...he has not earned anything yet and so far has barely contributed offensively so should be doing everything he can to win a spot.

Sounds promising but not sure if he's the type of project player we need right now.

Knightmare also has Henry Walsh still available at our pick. I'd be more keen on a project ruckman at this point.

Any footage malaka

Cam McCarthy? 😳

I seem to remember we were keen on him in his draft year, luckily GWS took him just before we took Cripps!!

Now for just one minute.....take the time to comprehend that..

Agree with you it would be an astute move strategic positional necessity and Sam would be stoked, looking after our primary asset, Sam will be an inspiration CFC captian and in top 3 or 4 AFL Midfileders in the next few years.

If you have a look at the Cripps thread I am on the first or second page wondering why we didn’t pick him. He was the dynamic key forward we needed.

Still feel dirty for that one.

We picked Cripps before McCarthy

Well that ****s up my gif then..

Edit: I suppose it would have been even worse if we took McCarthy ahead of Cripps..
We were screaming out for a forward at the time! 😳

Can't say that about too many current Richmond players unfortunately.
Pretty much every last one of them looks like they're out for blood*.

* Except Jack Riewoldt, who look like he's out for frees.
Can see some of those Richmond pressure traits in Fogarty which will compliment our midfield well.

That's from Wiki though, right?
Doesn't say, maybe.
