Very disappointed with the outcome, given the experienced coaches on the market. Would have hoped to do better than settle for next best.
Good luck to Voss - let’s hope he gets the support to succeed.
Which ones were on the market?
Clarkson ..lost the fire clearly and was petering out if we are honest.
Lyon...a terrible idea amd clearly Carlton Board agree and let him know so weeks ago.

Scott bros.....nah their ships have sailed also.

But what's his actual football game plan?

Does anyone have any idea what kind of football he wants to play?

You want him to roll out a 3hr powerpoint presentation on ball movement and defensive structures, in the first press conference, just so you feel better about the appointment?

Let's be fair, Bostonian, whatever he says you're not going to trust it til you see it (which is fair enough). So just chill on the gameplan stuff til the season kicks off, then we can all pick it apart based on actual evidence.

Pretty disappointing…I think Ross would have been better than Voss…In which case the club should have done what it took to get him…time will tell

The fact Ross withdrew and never re-entered even after Liddle departure and Cook arrival makes me suspicious he still didn't have enough support at club or he didn't want to divulge what happened at Freo. Clearly he was keen originally so something major stopped him. Perhaps the other party involved from incident threatened to go public if he proceeded with prominent role. Something strange about it so probably has worked out best for club to go with Vossy.

No PP necessary.

However the only thing people seem to say about him is "he builds good relationships". Which is fine, but that doesn't help you when you're up against coaches who are tactically very good at producing game plans and getting teams to execute them.

What is he credited with at Port football wise for implementing?

You do hear of assistant coaches who are credited with such things, so Voss?

I was interested to read this from a Port fan from their perspective...

I wish him luck moving forward but I won’t be loosing any sleep over port loosing him as an assistant.

Obviously it’s hard to know how much was the line coach or the head coach but when Voss took over our midfield for 4 years from 15-18 we went from a midfield that was free running with quick ball movement, to hardly being able to move the ball, disorganised and unaccountable for a number of years.

Our midfield in 2014 took us to within a kick of the GF to then missing finals the next 3/4 finals after him taking over.

He took our best midfielder in Boak out of the midfield for a number of years before he returned under a new coach and has been in brilliant form since.

Then from 2019 onwards as our senior assistant who knows what that actually entailed as we’ve had the same structural issues over the ground for years.

But good luck to him

Thus I ask what does he bring football strategy and tactics wise?

Which experienced coaches were "on the market"?

Clarko - "I'm not coaching in 2022"
Lyon - "I'm not interviewing for jobs, appoint me or I'm not interested"
Scott - "I'm taking up a cushy admin role at AFL HQ"
Pyke - "Staying in Sydney and don't want a senior role"

Missed anyone?
All of those plus Buckley, Sayers' self-proclaimed mate.
There's a consistent theme here ... and it ain't the lack of quality in those coaches.

It will take the coaches and players about two years to adopt, tweak and master game plan over time. Providing there are no injuries and Vossy has his best players on the park to build cohesion.
