Made the mistake of reading a few pages.

So:

Ross Lyon hates tree lopping.

Vossy is impartial but will help out because he’s a good bloke.

Teaguey will blame others for not attacking the tree in the correct motion, and will review the footage.

Is that right?

That cant be the metric that we use because we are not choosing between any midfielder in the comp. we are choosing from who is currently on the market.

You cant buy a second hand car this year based on cars that are not on the market.

I dont ever believe the dollar value suggested in the media and even if they are accurate in this case, we have no reliable info on the state of our salary cap and future spending ability.

I think the more apt question is, what can we get for pick 6 this year, in the draft or in other trades, and how does Cerra stack up with those options?

For me we will not be sacrificing the future of the list if we use out 1st pick on a 21 yr old, and Cerra will be immediately better than anything we get at 6 in the draft this year for our list needs right now and moving forward.
It’s the salary component that is the issue.

You don’t spend overs on a second hand car now if you know it’s a bad time to buy and you can’t get what you want, and you don’t urgently need the car. You’re making a long-term purchase. You shouldn’t tie up your capital just to have something new now.

Stamos do you know of any quality players who are the right type for us and available this year, instead of Cerra?
My point is don’t be so short-term. Don’t pay big for Cerra just because he’s available now. Make an accurate assessment of our list with a proper game plan and good coaching, and then use our capital in a targeted way to get players we really need.

Do we think there won’t be any players if Cerra’s level available next year?

The assumption you are making is that there aren't any trades out to even up the ledger - and there are a few candidates for that aren't there?

WC sniffing all over SPS
a few players are still unsigned ...
and a couple who might not be particularly highly rated anymore one that has never stayed on teh park or performed and drawing a big pay check

not quite IMO. You have a budget that must be spent, you can’t bank the unspent salary cap without making adjustments To other elements of your capex budget.

and these decisions are not made in a vacuum. You have performance targets in terms of games to win and, most importantly, a dynamic market to compete in next time round. Because you’re not buying a car, but attempting to recruit high grade talent.

A decision to scrounge a few dollars in salary for a high quality, Best on the market option can see you miss out now, pay your b graders too much now and then have issues picking up the next best available.

I'm not against you here but there's no guarantee anyone of quality will be available AND actually want to come to us next year. Cerra is just ramping up so we will get his best football.

Or you just shift some of Cripps’ and Saad’s money forward to next year

May ha e already been asked but who is j boyd?

J Boyd very likely to receive a one year contract extension, and will look to solidify a role in the back half

land keep making adjustments on the flyassum8ngbthat those parties are agreeable.

and miss out on the player that makes you that bit better

and find it harder to attract A grade talent without, shock horror, over paying.

and then lose your own A grade talent because you haven’t looked like contending for as long as a 26 year old can remember.

and then getting desperate and overpaying in salary and draft capital.

all because maybe you reckon say Cerra isworth $650k for 4 years rather than $750k for five.

Jordan Boyd, picked him up in the MSD. He's a lockdown defender with crafty foot skills and can also rotate through the wing or up forward.
