Happy to look at Brander, but still prefer to deal separately with SPS.

If they haven't offered him a contract, Brander can be obtained as a DFA or a very late pick.

SPS doesn't hold huge value, but certainly his value should be ahead of Brander's and I would look to avoid diluting that if possible.

I don't think it dilutes an SPS trade, if anything it helps balance it.

If the trade is skewed in our favour, they chuck in Brander and we give them back a third round pick. If the trade is skewed in their favour, they chuck in Brander and we give them back a fourth round pick.

Player for player trades are rare because it entangles both players managements against eachother, which neither likes.

They want it separated so that they can broker things with less moving parts.

It may end up being, in effect player for player, but they will probably be separate deals which occur in a pre-planned order

I just checked we don't have a third rounder .. I forgot what picks we have this year ...

Bang on ... which is what I said at the start without the explanation ...

Re Brander, there's a poster on the drafts, trades board that seems fairly adamant (not the singer) that he's going to the Hawks.
No idea if he gets inside info, or something was said on the Hawks board. Things can always change though, as I believe Tom Morris said he was meeting with us today, so who knows?
Suggests his former team mate and coach Sam Mitchell rates him

Post via r/AFL (for non-reddit users, treat this as someone who signed up to BF yesterday):
The mail is that WC were keen to offer Brander a contract, but that about midway through the season he communicated to the club he would not be accepting any offer and wanted to be traded. This supposedly contributed to Brander basically never being selected after the mid-year break, when the rift occurred.

WC fans speculate that part of the desire to leave was because he felt he wasn't being developed as a forward, so the suggestion Carlton are considering him for a position on the wing isn't ideal for him. But he may have burnt too many bridges at WC to stay.
Just like us to try and develop a player in the wrong position, he’s not a winger about as much as Setters is, personally i think he’s looked best as a tall forward…
Cheers for the info Doosh…

What a bargain :tongueoutv1:
First round pick for a 29yo (next year) and hawks will chip in $4,000 towards his wages :confusedv1:

"If I'm another club and I want Tom Mitchell, I'm saying to the Hawks: We'll give you a good first-round pick, but you pay two, three or four thousand dollars of his money for next season. You've got the room to do it, and we'll give you a better pick for it."

When talented players get told to look elsewhere, it's typically 'off field' issues and/or lack of professionalism.

I get that vibe from Ladhams...nice highlights package but lacks consistency. Still, you'd think Port would want to hang onto him but they don't. My feel is he's not the most professional of athletes, who likes to party and isn't 100% committed. They type to skate by on talent but not push to get the best out of himself.

Ladhams was suspended for breaching COVID by hosting a house party.

Think Ladhams and Brander are both worth taking a punt on. Both fill areas of need and I dont see either costing much at all. Cerra, Hewett, Ladhams and Brander would be an excellent Trade and FA period for us.

both need a huge 2022 to ensure they remain. Based on their output to date as Carlton players, Im doubtful they will.

Be prepared to be both "surprised" and "doubtful" now ;)
